3 Lakh Visit Jagannath Temple In Digha For Rath Yatra Festival: ISKCON
An estimated three lakh devotees visited the new Jagannath temple in Digha on the day of Rath Yatra and the preceding day, a senior ISKCON monk said.
International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Vice-President Radharaman Das also told PTI that 70,000-1 lakh people are likely to visit the temple every day till the 'Ulto Rath' (return car festival) on July 4.
ISKCON is entrusted with the job of performing the rituals and puja of the deities - Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladev and Devi Subhadra - in the Digha temple.
"Altogether three lakh pilgrims visited the temple premises on the two days of Netrotsav (the day of the deities getting vision)," Das said on Saturday.
Asked about the expected turnout of pilgrims in the coming week till 'Ulto Rath', he said, "We are anticipating 70,000-1 lakh devotees on an average every day." People are visiting the temple and their number has been steady every day despite intermittent rains, the monk said.
All rituals are being performed before the deities now stationed at another temple, considered their aunt's place, which is around 750 metres from the main shrine, he said.
Around 33 lakh people had visited the temple since its inauguration on April 30, Das said.
A Digha Shankarpur Development Authority (DSDA) official said, "The seaside resort has also turned into a religious tourism hub in West Bengal. We expect the turnout to be higher by next year." West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the temple in Digha in April.

And we're going to continue to pursue any opportunities we can find to bring about peace in the world,' Rubio was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. When tensions between India and Pakistan intensified, the international community began making appeals for peace and offered unsolicited opportunities to mediate. As the tensions escalated, a serious situation had emerged. Operation Sindoor, aimed at avenging the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). In response to 'Operation Sindoor,' the Pakistani military initiated simultaneous missile launches towards 15 Indian cities aimed at military bases. Notably, all 15 missiles were both intercepted and reportedly destroyed in the air by the S-400 'Sudharshan' air defense system, which was provided to India by Russia. Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had reached a 'full and immediate' ceasefire after a 'long night' of talks mediated by Washington, he has reiterated his statement approximately 40 times that he 'helped settle' the tensions between India and Pakistan and he told both nuclear-armed South Asian nations that America would do a 'lot of trade' with them if they stopped their conflict.

‘Big step taken today': Yogi Adityanath inaugurates UP's first green hydrogen project
Claiming that 'a big step has been taken today', Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inaugurated the state's first green hydrogen plant in Gorakhpur, with the project aiming to produce 72,000 tonnes of green fuel in a year. The plant launched by Torrent Group will blend hydrogen with natural gas for distribution, and is being touted as 'a significant step in India's energy transition'. 'This is the first such plant in Uttar Pradesh and only second in the country. A big step has been taken today as this plant would ensure blending of green hydrogen with CNG (compressed natural gas) and PNG (piped natural gas),' the Chief Minister said. As a pilot project, the plant will mix 2% green hydrogen with natural gas (both CNG and PNG) for city gas distribution systems. 'The solar power is available only till there is sunlight. But this is the future source of energy. Research is going on to ensure that electricity is generated from hydrogen for round-the-clock supply. This new energy might be costly for the time being but just like mobile tariffs, it would become cheaper in the future,' said Adityanath. Speaking on the issue of climate change, he said, 'The rainfall, which is taking place now, should have occurred in July itself. It is all because of the climate change which is affecting the crops and how humans are playing not just with the environment but also lives.' But this can be changed with the use of organic farming and the use of alternative sources of energy, he added. 'Uttar Pradesh has a great potential in green hydrogen energy because of its water resources when compared to other states,' the CM said. Green hydrogen is hydrogen gas produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity produced through renewable energy sources. The green here doesn't mean that the produced hydrogen gas is of green colour; it is a reference to zero usage of fossil fuels in the production of hydrogen gas. Officials informed that the 2 MW renewable energy plant will generate hydrogen through electrolysis, reducing carbon emissions by around 500 tonnes. The state came up with its Green Hydrogen Policy last year, wherein the government will provide incentives and rebates for setting up of green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities. The policy offers a 30% capital subsidy which will be up to 40 per cent for the first four projects in the state. Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan, who also attended the programme, termed the project a 'game-changer' that would script a new energy revolution in the district, while Sahjanwa MLA Pradeep Shukla said such projects were steering UP towards becoming a developed state by 2047. The CM also planted a Rudraksha sapling at the site, symbolising the state's commitment to environmental protection. — PTI inputs
