Black Book: Rimowa brings back 1980s nostalgia and Piaget names a watch after one of its most famous fans
Every week, The National's Luxury magazine team puts together Black Book, a cheat sheet of the most interesting and noteworthy arrivals in fashion, watches, jewellery and cars. The retro Holiday Case by Rimowa Rimowa, the German luggage maker founded in 1898, looks to the past for its latest release. The Holiday Case draws inspiration from a 1988 design aimed at a new kind of customer: the young, intrepid traveller. Nicknamed der Reisekoffer für junge Leute ('the travel case for young people'), the original marked a shift in tourism as the world began to open up. Today, that same spirit is revived in a retro-inspired, limited-edition case, finished in cheerful brights with reinforced corners. Designed for the young and the young at heart, it captures the joy and anticipation of adventures yet to come. Dh4,190 Lindberg's Air Titanium Rim sunglasses Danish eyewear brand Lindberg has unveiled its spring/summer 2025 collection. Rooted in Danish modern design, the new range strikes a balance between innovation and tradition, with frames that are lightweight, sleek, and well-proportioned. Each piece is handmade using responsibly sourced materials including titanium, platinum, gold, wood, diamonds, and buffalo horn. Founded in 1986 by optometrist Poul-Jorn Lindberg and his architect son Henrik, the brand's ethos is best exemplified by the Air Titanium Rim, crafted from twisted titanium wire to form its signature spiral hinge, eliminating the need for screws or rivets. From Dh2,171 Diamind Celestial Collection UAE-based lab-grown diamond jewellery brand Diamond has teamed up with British-Jordanian creative Hannah Rasekh on a new collection inspired by the night sky. Titled The Celestial Collection, it features elegantly minimal pieces crafted from lab-grown diamonds set in 18ct gold. Highlights include the Aurora bezel emerald-cut bracelet, boasting 11.6 carats of VS+ white diamonds, and the Zenith bracelet, a striking half-and-half design of gold chain and baguette-cut lab-grown stones. By focusing exclusively on lab-grown diamonds, Diamond eliminates uncertainty around provenance and offers top-grade stones at a more accessible price than mined diamonds. Chemically and visually identical with their natural counterparts, these diamonds can only be distinguished with specialised equipment. Zenith Bracelet, Dh6,280 The Andy Warhol watch by Piaget To honour arguably its most famous fan, Piaget has renamed the Black Tie watch the Andy Warhol. The 45mm 1972 original was Warhol's favourite – he owned seven Piaget watches – and in tribute to his love of colour, the brand unveiled new high-jewellery variations at Watches and Wonders in Geneva. Retaining the signature sweeping, curved case, one model features a dazzling blue opal dial framed by a triple row of baguette-cut sapphires. Another pairs a lustrous tiger's eye dial with a rich chocolate crocodile strap. A third showcases olive green meteorite within a white gold gadroon case and matching olive strap, while a final version features flecked white meteorite set in rose gold. Price on request Ascis X A. P. C Tennis Collection In a meeting of minds, Japanese trainer brand Asics and French fashion house A.P.C. have teamed up for a new Tennis Collection ahead of a summer of tennis tournaments in Europe, making this Asics's first-ever head-to-toe venture. Spanning 20 pieces, the women's line includes crew dresses, 2-in-1 shorts, and Sprinter shorts, while the men's range features tops, sleeveless tops, and shorts. African Mining Week (AMW) 2025 to Host Invest in Angola's Mining Sector Forum
The African Mining Week (AMW) conference - Africa's premier event for the mining sector, scheduled for October 1–3, 2025 in Cape Town – will feature a dedicated session titled Invest in Angola's Mining Sector, sharing insight into the vast investment opportunities across the country's mineral landscape. The session will showcase the immense, untapped potential of Angola's diverse mineral resources, providing investors with strategic insights and actionable pathways to capitalize on this burgeoning market. Rich in a variety of minerals, including diamonds, copper, gold, lithium, rare earths and more, Angola offers significant growth opportunities for mining companies. As such, the Angolan session seeks to unlock these opportunities by connecting stakeholders under the broader event theme: From Extraction to Beneficiation: Unlocking Africa's Mineral Wealth. African Mining Week serves as a premier platform for exploring the full spectrum of mining opportunities across Africa. The event is held alongside the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025 conference from October 1-3 in Cape Town. Sponsors, exhibitors and delegates can learn more by contacting sales@ In the diamond sector, the session will provide insight into strategic investment opportunities. A global leader in diamond production, Angola already presents a compelling investment case, backed by over 732 million carats of untapped diamond reserves valued at more than $140 billion. The country is pursuing both upstream expansion and downstream beneficiation. Key developments include a new pilot production and processing facility at Luachimba, launched by ENDIAMA - the national diamond company - and ongoing feasibility studies at the Xamacanda site. Global mining firm De Beers is also advancing exploration across eight new diamond project targets. AMW will link these promising projects with global investors and strategic partners, in line with Angola's ambitions to leverage its diamond wealth for sustainable economic growth. Beyond diamonds, Angola is making substantial strides in its critical minerals sector as part of its long-term strategy to become a leading exporter of processed critical minerals - essential for the global energy transition. The government has identified 34 critical minerals, with key projects like Pensana's Longonjo Rare Earth Project driving the market expansion. In March 2025, Pensana secured $268 million in funding to begin phase one of development. The project will enable Angola to supply 5% of the world's high-grade rare earth carbonate, significantly boosting its role in the global rare earth sector. AMW will make a strong case for Angolan critical minerals, providing a platform where partners, investors and mining corporation can engage and sign deals. Meanwhile, AMW 2025 will bring together global stakeholders to explore Angola's copper, lithium and manganese landscape. The country is advancing projects in these industries and new investment would fuel growth even further. China's Shining Star is set to begin commercial production at its 40-million-ton Mavoio-Tetelo copper project in northern Angola in 2025, while Ivanhoe Mines is undertaking extensive copper exploration. Mining companies Tyranna Resources and ST New Materials are unlocking new frontiers in lithium and manganese, while Rio Tinto is exploring for base metals under an agreement signed in 2024. These efforts underscore increasing international interest in Angola's critical mineral potential. Distributed by APO Group on behalf of Energy Capital&Power.

It operates 13 dual-fuel methanol container vessels that can be powered with fuel oil and with e-methanol and has ordered another 13 of the said, the plant's annual production is enough to power one large 16,000 container vessel sailing between Asia and the smaller Laura Maersk, the world's first dual-fuel container ship, with a capacity of more than 2,100 twenty-foot equivalent units, requires only 3,600 tons of fuel per Laura Maersk was scheduled to fuel near Kasso on methanol is typically produced from natural gas and coal. The Kasso plant will make e-methanol using renewable energy and CO2 captured from biogas plants and waste said one of the biggest challenges of switching to sustainable fuel was cost, and it is researching green fuel technologies and more efficient shipping to make the process Energy CEO Andersen said the company has plans to expand the Kasso facility as well as a pipeline of similar plants in Europe, Australia, Brazil and the United addition to its use in shipping, e-methanol can replace fossil methanol in plastic production, meaning it can supply other Danish companies.
