Trump Hotel Guest Died After Revolving Door ‘Violently Ejected' Her: Lawsuit

Yahoo25-03-2025

A man is suing Trump International Hotels after he claimed his mother died from injuries she sustained from being 'violently ejected' from a revolving door at the hotel's Las Vegas location in 2023.
Diana Truschke, 78, was visiting Las Vegas in March 2023 as an 'invited guest and patron' of the hotel, but was injured when she entered the building's revolving door, according to the lawsuit filed last week and cited by Fox affiliate KVVU. The door sped up its rotation while Truschke was inside and she was struck in the back, the lawsuit alleges.
Truschke was 'violently ejected' and thrown several feet, hitting the sidewalk face first, the suit said, as reported by CBS affiliate KLAS-TV, citing the lawsuit. Despite receiving medical treatments, Truschke's health deteriorated and she died on Oct. 14, 2024, 'due to complications from injuries.'
Truschke's lawsuit claims the hotel staff should have known that the revolving door was not working properly and informed guests, according to the outlet.
The lawsuit accuses Trump International Hotels of negligence; negligent hiring, training and supervision; and wrongful death, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Truschke's son is now seeking damages in excess of $15,000 for several claims including loss of comfort and companionship, emotional pain and economic hardships.
Trump International Hotels in Las Vegas did not immediately respond to HuffPost when reached out for a comment on Truschke's son's allegations. An attorney for the hotel was not listed in the court records reviewed by HuffPost.

Stephen Colbert floats masked ICE agents possibly getting shot in states with ‘Stand Your Ground' laws

'The Late Show' host Stephen Colbert questioned whether 'Stand Your Ground' laws put masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at risk of being shot during an interview with Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., on Thursday. As Democrats across the country continue to criticize the federal agency's use of masks and civilian clothing, the liberal host questioned whether officers are being put in danger in 'Stand Your Ground' states like Florida. Advertisement Colbert said he was alarmed because, 'it does feel like kidnapping, because, as you said, unmarked windowless vans will show up. Men will get out wearing masks… no identifying patches, do not identify themselves. They don't have badges.' 'They grab people and put them in a van, in a state like Florida that has a 'Stand Your Ground' law and people can open carry,' he went on. 'It's dangerous for those officers, not just for the people, because why wouldn't you think that you were being attacked?' Despite Colbert's claim, open carry is not legal in Florida. It is allowed under certain, limited circumstances, such as hunting or fishing. In February 2025, however, Governor Ron DeSantis urged the legislature to support open carry. Advertisement Earlier in the interview, Colbert asked Frost to clarify what he meant when he called the Trump administration's last round of deportations a 'taxpayer-funded kidnapping operation.' The Florida congressman argued that the 'mass deportations' promised by President Donald Trump during his 2024 campaign could hardly be classified as deportations due to a lack of legal due process for those being deported. 3 Colbert questioned whether officers are being put in danger in 'Stand Your Ground' states like Florida. Fox News 3 Border Patrol partners arrested a Mexican national wanted for murder in Mexico. @HSILosAngeles/X Advertisement 'There is no legal process for people,' he claimed. 'We have ICE federal agents pulling up, terrorizing our communities, hopping out of unmarked vans, stealing — and yes, kidnapping people. Not giving them their day in court and yes — human trafficking them to other nations, other countries around the entire world.' Frost also questioned why agents felt the need to conceal their identities in the first place. 'My other thing is, if you are proud of what you're doing, why do you have to wear a mask to do it?' he asked. 'If you are operating within the bounds of the law, you should not have to cover your face. That is the problem with ICE and with the administration right now is this whole thing is happening in the shadows.' 3 Los Angeles Police Department and protestors and ICE agents were gathered at an entrance to Dodger Stadium as ICE attempted to use the stadium parking lot as a staging area. Wu compared ICE agents wearing masks to members of the neo-Nazi group the Nationalist Social Club-131 (NSC-131) during a press conference on June 5, amid government claims that ICE agents have faced a 413% increase in assaults. Jeffries has called for the identification of ICE agents who perpetrate 'aggressive overreach.'

Sherri Papini, Convicted In 2016 Kidnapping Hoax, Again Claims She Was Kidnapped

Sherri Papini, a California woman who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about being kidnapped by two women in 2016, now claims it was her ex-boyfriend who actually kidnapped her. Papini, 43, made national headlines in 2016 after she told police that two Latina women had kidnapped her at gunpoint and taken her hostage for three weeks. She was found on Thanksgiving Day on the side of the road, covered in bruises. In 2022, she admitted that the kidnapping was fake in a plea deal with the FBI after investigators found she'd actually been staying with a former boyfriend, James Reyes, in Costa Mesa during the time she was missing. Papini was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the hoax. 'I am guilty of lying,' Papini said during her sentencing. 'I am guilty of dishonor. I stand before you willing to accept, to repent and to concede.' Now Papini is claiming that it was Reyes ― the ex-boyfriend she was staying with during her 2016 kidnapping hoax ― who had really kidnapped her at the time. 'To be clear, there was one thing that I lied about,' Papini told ABC News in an interview published Friday. 'Everything else was accurate and true. I lied about the identity of my captor.' Reyes has previously denied allegations that he kidnapped Papini and told police that Papini's bruises were self-inflicted. He was never charged with a crime. HuffPost could not reach him for comment. Papini's new accusation comes as she hawks a self-published book about the hoax she perpetrated. She claims she was afraid to tell police the truth over fears that her then-husband, Keith Papini, would be upset over her 'emotional affair' with Reyes. 'Prison was far safer than the consequences that I would suffer if my ex-husband found out I was having an emotional affair,' Papini told ABC News. 'I'd prefer prison over telling Keith Papini that I was having an emotional affair.' In an interview with ABC News last year, Keith Papini said his ex-wife has 'never apologized' for the lie she told him and their two children, which they believed for years until her 2022 plea deal. He filed for divorce that year. 'She made us all believe that her story was true. Every single day, she committed to the lie,' he said at the time. US Attorney for NY John Sarcone claims knife-wielding illegal migrant who threatened him ‘was going to kill somebody'

US attorney for New York John Sarcone claimed Friday that a knife-wielding illegal Salvadoran migrant who was charged with threatening to slit his throat was 'going to kill somebody' if he didn't step up to help get him off the streets. Sarcone, the President Trump-appointed US attorney for the Northern District of New York, allegedly encountered a 'crazy' Saul Morales-Garcia — a previously deported illegal migrant from El Salvador — outside the Hilton Hotel in Albany on Tuesday night. Detailing the encounter, Sarcone said Morales-Garcia, 40, aggressively lunged at him multiple times on the street while screaming in a 'foreign language' before he gestured he would slice his throat. Advertisement 'I knew that if he got away, he was going to kill somebody,' Sarcone told Fox News' 'Fox & Friends.' 'I could have easily just kept walking but I sensed that there was danger here.' 3 US Attorney for the Northern District John Sarcone was allegedly threatened by a knife-wielding illegal migrant in Albany on Tuesday. Houston Chronicle via Getty Images Advertisement Sarcone said he noticed Morales-Garcia after leaving his office in downtown Albany and decided to keep an eye on him because he 'definitely appeared to be up to something crazy.' The federal prosecutor said he stopped outside the hotel to keep watch when the illegal migrant allegedly started screaming at him. 'I didn't acknowledge him. I kept looking straight ahead. Then out of the corner of my eye, he starts coming towards me. I turned, I look at him. I still don't say anything and then he pulls a knife out. He is screaming at me and then he charges at me,' Sarcone recalled. Sarcone said he started running to the hotel lobby before the alleged perp suddenly stopped and started walking away. Albany County Sheriff's Office While waiting for law enforcement to arrive, Sarcone said he went back to the street and yelled out to Garcia-Morales to get his attention and prevent him from disappearing. A screaming Morales-Garcia then allegedly charged at Sarcone yet again while making a throat-slitting gesture at Sarcone with the blade. Advertisement 'I felt an obligation to the public as the chief Federal law enforcement officer in the district that includes the city of Albany,' Sarcone said in a statement in the wake of the alleged ordeal. 'I feared for my life but I couldn't let this individual harm and potentially kill others.' Morales-Garcia was taken into custody immediately after cops arrived on the scene, prosecutors said. 3 Saul Morales-Garcia, 40, was charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly threatening to slit the throat of US Attorney John Sarcone. Albany County Sheriff's Office 'US Attorney John Sarcone's selfless actions likely saved lives,' Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said. The alleged attempted slasher has been in the US illegally since 2021 after previously being deported. He has a criminal rap sheet in at least three other states outside New York, according to prosecutors. Sarcone said Gov. Kathy Hochul had called him in the wake of the alleged attack after GOP lawmakers started blasting the state's sanctuary city laws. 'She was very sympathetic and concerned and I said 'these sanctuary cities aren't working',' he said of the phone call with Hochul. He was remanded without bail following an initial hearing in Albany City Court.
