Marjorie Taylor Greene's Palantir Bet Has Skyrocketed 142% Since She Bought It

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)'s investment in Palantir has seen an impressive surge of 142% since April. What Happened: Greene, who is a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, acquired shares in Palantir (NASDAQ:PLTR) just days before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) granted the company a $30 million contract. Greene has clarified that her portfolio is managed by her financial adviser and she was not privy to the trades until they were reported. Quiver Quantitative, a platform that monitors the stock market activities of politicians, highlighted that Palantir's stock has risen by 142% from its position on April 8, which is the date when Greene made her also invested in additional Palantir stock on July 15, which has yielded a substantial profit. Greene has credited her success to her financial adviser and has brushed off criticism as 'laughable'. Why It Matters: The significant rise in Palantir's stock value following Greene's investment raises questions about the timing of her purchase. The fact that the surge came just days before ICE awarded Palantir a hefty contract is noteworthy. However, Greene has maintained that she was not aware of the trades until they were reported, attributing her investment decisions to her financial adviser. This incident underscores the potential for conflicts of interest in the stock market activities of politicians, a topic that has been a subject of debate in recent times. Precincts ready for MATC election

From Staff Reports | Pauls Valley Democrat All precincts in Garvin County will be open and ready for an election next week. On ballots for the August 12 vote is a single issue – a property tax increase with revenue meant to help Mid-America Technology Center build a second campus and maybe even do a little expanding of the current school in nearby Wayne. Early in-person absentee voting is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, August 7-8, at the Garvin County Election Board. In the election, MATC is asking for the current 1-cent millage rate to be increased to 4 cents to support the future construction of a second campus in the Blanchard and Newcastle area in McClain County. School officials say the move is due to the high level of prospective students expressing interest in attending Mid-America. Superintendent Mike Eubank has said that interest right now adds up to about the same as the number of students enrolled to attend classes this fall at MATC. Eubank estimates the 3-mill increase will cost the 'average household' in Garvin County an additional $60 a year in property taxes. If the issue does pass, it will impact property taxes in all of Garvin and McClain counties and parts of seven counties overall. ••• August 15 is the deadline to get registered to vote in an upcoming school bond election in Stratford. On the Stratford ballot on September 9 are two issues, with the largest totaling just over $8.8 million. Right up front, school officials stress these issues will have no impact on property taxes in the school district. Featured is the construction of a new school building to house grades 3 through 5 right across the street from Stratford's current elementary school, which would house prekindergarten through the 2nd grade if the measure is approved by at least 60 percent support. Other projects include the replacement of school auditorium seating, a smaller school vehicle and the purchase of property near the local sports complex. A second issue totals $500,000, which is meant to purchase three new full-size school buses and one handicap-accessible bus. August 25 is the deadline to request mailed absentee ballots.
