‘You Never Learn...': Fadnavis' Rhyme-Laced Jibe At Rahul Gandhi On Rigged Polls Claims
Last Updated: Rahul Gandhi ignited a political row after he claimed that a systematic method was used to influence the Maharashtra election outcome in favour of BJP. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday took a subtle yet sharp rebuke at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he claimed 'match-fixing" in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections saying that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha has made the same mistake throughout his entire life. While speaking to reporters in Pune, Fadnavis took a poetic jibe at Gandhi and said, ' Ta-umr Rahul Gandhi aap yahi galti karte rahe, dhool chehre pe thi aur aap aina saaf karte rahe (Throughout your life, Rahul Gandhi, you have always made the same mistake; The dust was on your face, but you kept cleaning the mirror)." #WATCH | Pune | Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis says, ''Ta-umr Rahul Gandhi aap yahi galti karte rahe, dhool chehre pe thi aur aap aina saaf karte rahe' (Throughout your life, Rahul Gandhi, you have always made the same mistake; The dust was on your face, but you… — ANI (@ANI) June 8, 2025 Earlier today, he called the allegations 'nonsense," a 'lie," and 'an insult to voters." In an article written for a Marathi daily, Fadnavis said the 'one whom the public rejects, rejects the mandate." 'If you cannot convince people, then confuse them. This is the policy that Rahul Gandhi is adopting," Fadnavis said. He further said the Congress has been rejected by the people, which is why they are now tarnishing the image of democracy by blaming the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). 'It has now become a habit for the opposition parties to raise questions on the EVM in every election in Maharashtra. All petitions against the EVM have been dismissed by the Supreme Court," he added. Fadnavis also said that Gandhi is a leader 'who cannot accept failure". 'Are EVMs right in the elections in which the Congress government wins?" he asked. 'Respect the mandate. The public is watching everyone. Now, excuses will not work, and the accountability will be fixed," he concluded. What Rahul Gandhi Claimed? Rahul Gandhi ignited a political row after he claimed that a systematic method was used to influence the Maharashtra election outcome in favour of BJP. In a post on X, the grand-old party leader summarised the key points of an article he wrote for The Indian Express, where he described the so-called electoral manipulation. In his article, Gandhi outlined a five-step process he claimed was used to tilt the Maharashtra election. 'Step 1: Rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission Step 2: Add fake voters to the roll Step 3: Inflate voter turnout Step 4: Target the bogus voting exactly where BJP needs to win Step 5: Hide the evidence," the Leader of Opposition wrote in his post. 'It's not hard to see why the BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra," Gandhi wrote in his post. 'But rigging is like match-fixing – the side that cheats might win the game, but damages institutions and destroy public faith in the result." 'All concerned Indians must see the evidence. Judge for themselves. Demand answers," Gandhi added. He also warned that what happened in Maharashtra could be repeated elsewhere. 'The match-fixing of Maharashtra will come to Bihar next, and then anywhere the BJP is losing," he said, calling match-fixed elections are a 'poison" for any democracy. ECI's Rebuttal The ECI responded to the Lok Sabha LoP's allegations with a point wise rebuttal, stating that 'facts are completely being ignored." 'Unsubstantiated allegations raised against the Electoral Rolls of Maharashtra are an affront to the rule of law. The Election Commission had brought out all these facts in its reply to the INC on 24th December 2024 itself, which is available on ECI's website. It appears that all these facts are being completely ignored while raising such issues again and again," the ECI said. Maharashtra Elections The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti alliance had scored a massive and astonishing victory over Maha Vikas Aghadi in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The unprecedented electoral sweep is a record win as no alliance has ever crossed the magic mark of 200 seats in the Maharashtra polls. The ruling Mahayuti had won 234 of the 288 seats in the Maharashtra elections, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party, winning 132 seats on its own. Internal reservation: Survey of SCs to continue at 'citizen centric services' centers
Bengaluru, A provision has been made to continue the survey for gathering the empirical data, aimed at providing internal reservation among Scheduled Castes in Karnataka, at the 9,400 state level 'citizen centric services' centers from June 9 to 22, the commission overseeing the survey said. With about 10 per cent of the survey yet to be completed and amid requests for time extension, the commission headed by retired judge of the Karnataka High Court H N Nagmohan Das, who has been tasked to recommend to the government the internal reservation among SCs, has made this announcement. "Currently, the 'Comprehensive Survey of the Scheduled Castes-2025', is being carried out across the state of Karnataka from April 5 onwards in 2 modes at special camps and online self-declarations. As of date i.e., , an overall progress of 90 per cent has been achieved in the survey across the state," an official release dated June 7 that was released to media on Sunday said. It said about 10 per cent of the caste survey is yet to be completed. In addition to this, some Scheduled Caste organisations have once again submitted representations, requesting for time extension to complete the said survey. The commission, however, pointed out that in the wake of the schools reopening in the state, the teachers who were appointed as enumerators for the survey have been relieved from the survey work. "Thus, in order to facilitate the continuation of the SC castes' survey for those Scheduled Castes' households of Karnataka, who are yet to submit their data in the Scheduled Caste Survey, a provision has been made to carry out the same at the existing 9,400 state level 'citizen centric services' centers, such as , "Karnataka One", "Bengaluru One" and "Grama One" and also at the 198 "BBMP ward offices", from June 9 to June 22," it said. In order to submit the required information, the Aadhaar card or ration card of the citizen is required, it further said, adding that a separate camp will be set up at each of the 198 Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike ward offices, to carry out this survey. According to officials, the SC population in the state according to the 2011 census was 1.04 crore. In 2025, the projected SC population will be 1.16 crore and out of this 1.05 crore, have been enumerated. Apart from this, the same facility for the survey will also be provided at the Bapuji Seva Kendras, across the state. To enter the said information at the centres, the citizen's Aadhaar card or the ration card number is required. Further, the time limit for Scheduled Caste families for submitting online self declaration has also been extended up to June 22. This can be done through the link: https: As per the government orders earlier and the terms of references, the Commission has to obtain empirical data regarding the representation of the 101 Scheduled Castes' in education and government services in the state of and has to submit a report with suitable recommendations on internal reservation of the Scheduled Castes. A section of SCs, like 'SC Left', have been demanding internal reservation, alleging that only a few influential sub-castes were taking away a majority of the benefits, while many communities were still marginalised. The internal reservation is aimed at slicing up the 17 per cent reservation matrix given to 101 Scheduled Castes. The government, in November last year, had appointed Nagmohan Das to head a commission to recommend internal reservation among SCs, after the Supreme Court last year allowed the states to provide internal reservation, and the state cabinet agreed to implement internal reservation. In a landmark verdict delivered by the Supreme Court on August 1 last year, it held that states are constitutionally empowered to make sub-classifications within the SCs, which form a socially heterogeneous class, for granting reservation for the uplift of castes that are socially and educationally more backward.

'A Dream Railized': Amul Celebrates Landmark Chenab Bridge With New Ad, Ashwini Vaishnaw Reacts
Last Updated: The ad, styled in Amul's trademark witty tone, features an illustration of the engineering marvel with the caption: 'A Dream Railized." Dairy giant Amul released a special print advertisement on Sunday celebrating the recently inaugurated Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir — the world's highest railway arch bridge. The ad, styled in Amul's trademark witty tone, features an illustration of the engineering marvel with the caption: 'A Dream Railized." Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reshared the advertisement on social media platform X, thanking the dairy giant for recognising the landmark development in Valley. Amul's secondary tagline in the ad reads: 'Amul A Ticket To Great Taste". The advertisement was widely seen as a nod to the bridge's role in improving access to remote regions and its significance in national integration. Thank you Amul. — Ashwini Vaishnaw (@AshwiniVaishnaw) June 8, 2025 Engineering Marvel The Chenab Bridge, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, stands at a staggering height of 359 metres above the Chenab River — taller than the Eiffel Tower. It is part of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL), aimed at connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India via an all-weather rail network. Construction of the 1.3-kilometre-long bridge began in 2017 after years of planning and overcoming complex challenges including difficult Himalayan terrain, seismic activity, and extreme weather conditions. The project used over 30,000 tonnes of steel and was designed to withstand winds up to 260 km/h and even explosions, according to officials. The bridge is expected to drastically cut travel time between key regions in Jammu and Kashmir, with the Vande Bharat Express now set to operate through the corridor. The Chenab Bridge is also being hailed as a strategic asset, enhancing logistics and connectivity in a sensitive border region. Amul's tribute comes at a moment of national pride, blending its legacy of social commentary with a celebration of Indian infrastructure. First Published: June 08, 2025, 16:12 IST
