"Was admitted due to health issues": Tihar officials after ISIS-linked terror accused Saquib Nachan dies
New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Saquib Nachan, a convicted terrorist linked to the Islamic State (ISIS), died at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi on Saturday while undergoing treatment for health issues, according to Tihar Jail officials.
Nachan had been lodged in Tihar Jail Number 1 since December 27, 2023 and was shifted to the hospital due to deteriorating health.
On June 22, he was referred to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital due to health issues and later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on June 25. Around 4 pm, Tihar administration was informed that Nachan had died at 11.30 am on Saturday.
Saquib was convicted for his involvement in the 2002 and 2003 Mumbai bomb blasts and was also a self-styled Amir-e-Hind for ISIS in India.
In June 2024, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) chargesheeted him along with 16 other hardcore ISIS agents for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to recruit and radicalise youth, fabricate explosives, and spread ISIS ideology in India and the fabrication of improvised explosive devices in the Delhi-Padgha ISIS terror module case.
The accused were chargesheeted under various sections of IPC, UA(P) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act, were found to have been engaged in a massive ISISI conspiracy involving recruitment, training and propagation of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) ideology among gullible youth, along with fabrication of explosives and IEDs and fund-raising for the banned outfit.
Its investigation had subsequently led to the seizure of several incriminating documents and data relating to the manufacturing of explosives and the fabrication of IEDs, along with propaganda magazines like 'Voice of Hind', 'Rumiyah', 'Khilafat', 'Dabiq', published by IS.
The agency had further found during investigations that the accused had been sharing digital files related to IED fabrication with their contacts. They were also found to be actively raising funds to further their terror plans as part of the ISIS agenda to spread violence in India and destroy its secular ethos and democratic systems.
The accused had carried out several acts preparatory to unleashing terrorist attacks, including the recruitment of vulnerable youth into the organisation. (ANI)

ED seizes Rs 1.37 crore after raids in Karnataka
Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has found incriminating documents related to money laundering activities and seized Rs 1.37 crore in cash from the premises of the private engineering colleges after raids at 17 locations in Karnataka in connection with the seat blocking scam, an official said on Saturday. 'The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Bengaluru Zonal Office, has conducted search operations at 17 locations related to the Seat Blocking Scam in private engineering colleges in Bengaluru on June 25 and June 26 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act( PMLA), 2002,' the ED said in a statement. During the search operations, various incriminating documents related to money laundering activities and other digital devices have been found and seized, it stated. The search proceedings have revealed evidence with respect to widespread seat blocking and use of cash/money in the admission process in popular professional courses in the private institutes, the ED said. There is an extensive network of agents, educational consultancy service entities, which is used to bring students for admission from across India to these institutes, the federal agency stated. The admission in Management quota seats is done mostly in an opaque manner based on extraneous considerations such as cash/money. In addition to the evidence gathered, the Proceeds of Crime in the form of cash to the tune of approximately Rs 1.37 crore were also found and seized during the search proceedings, the ED said. The search operations were conducted at the office premises of BMS College of Engineering, Akash Institute of Engineering and Technology, and New Horizon College of Engineering, and persons associated with these institutions. 'The search proceedings were also conducted at the premises of a few entities engaged in educational consultancy services and some private agents associated with the scam,' the ED said. The ED initiated an investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) against BMS College of Engineering, Akash Institute of Engineering and Technology, New Horizon College of Engineering and unknown persons under various sections of IPC/BNSS. It is alleged that these colleges colluded with unknown persons, obtained the log-in credentials of students registered with KEA and blocked seats by opting for seats in their college in the name of students who were not actually going to take admission.

J&K: Trial run held at Yatri Niwas base camp ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir), June 30 (ANI): A trial run was conducted at Yatri Niwas, the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu, to check the preparedness for the upcoming annual pilgrimage. Buses were sent out under full security cover as part of the exercise to ensure all arrangements are in place. The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from the Jammu base camp on July 2. The Yatra will formally begin on July 3 from both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishy, said that all preparations for the yatra have been completed. 'Today, tokens will be distributed at Saraswati Dham. We appeal to people to come in large numbers; we will provide them with all the necessary facilities, and no one will face any issues. We have full preparations for everything,' he told reporters. On Sunday, in a preemptive move to ensure the safety of the pilgrims, a joint mock landslide drill was conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Response Force (JKSDRF). The exercise was carried out at Samroli, Toldi Nallah, along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, one of the critical routes for the Yatra. Meanwhile, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Saturday, held a joint security review meeting in Udhampur for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start from July 1 to August 9. The meeting was held to check preparations and boost coordination among all agencies involved. The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Udhampur-Resai range Sarah Rizvi, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Amod Nagpure, Additional SP Udhampur, other senior Officers of the District Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and traffic police. SSP Udhampur gave a detailed presentation highlighting the district's security plan, including deployment of forces, convoy and traffic management, safety of camps and langar sites, emergency plans, and readiness of Quick Reaction Teams. Addressing the meeting, the DGP emphasised to all the officers to maintain very close coordination, which he said is of utmost importance to ensure an incident-free Yatra. He directed that the zonal/sectoral officers must have the information regarding the availability and location of special teams like Drone Units, BD squad, Dog squad, QRTs etc., to ensure that services of these teams are utilised on a real-time basis in case of any emergency. UK: Over 1,000 devotees join Rath Yatra celebrations; Indian Deputy High Commissioner performs Chhera Paharna ritual
London [UK], June 30 (ANI): Over a thousand devotees gathered in Slough, United Kingdom, to take part in the grand Rath Yatra celebrations, the High Commission of India said on Monday. India's Deputy High Commissioner to the UK, Sujit Ghosh, participated in the celebrations, which were organised by the Shree Jagannatha Society UK. In a significant moment during the event, Sujit Ghosh performed the sacred 'Chhera Paharna' ritual--one of the most important customs of the Rath Yatra. The ritual, which involves sweeping the chariot before the deities, symbolises humility and equality before God. The High Commission wrote on X, 'DHC @sujitjoyghosh participated in the Grand Ratha Yatra in Slough, organised by @JagannathaUK. He performed the sacred Chhera Paharna ritual. Over 1,000 devotees joined the celebrations.' The Jagannath Rath Yatra, also called the Chariot Festival or Shree Gundicha Yatra, is a significant event for Hindus. The Yatra began on June 27 in Puri, Odisha and is scheduled to conclude on July 1, with Lord Jagannath returning to the Jagannath temple. The grand annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath commenced on Friday in Odisha's Puri, with thousands of devotees pulling the majestic chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.
