Unlicensed Money Lending Actvities: Five Individuals Detained, Almost 3,000 ATM Cards Seized
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said that following surveillance in Subang Jaya, police arrested three local men who were acting suspiciously in front of a bank on August 8.
He said subsequent checks at the premises where the men lived and worked in Subang Jaya led to the arrest of two more individuals suspected of involvement in the same activities.
'Investigations revealed that the individuals were working as 'collectors' and 'runners,' tasked with withdrawing money from ATM cards for an along (loan shark) syndicate,' he told a press conference today.
Rusdi said a search of the premises uncovered ATM cards, RM119,997 in cash, 14 mobile phones, as well as various loan agreement documents and personal details of individuals.
He said those arrested were paid monthly wages of between RM2,500 and RM3,500 to withdraw cash using ATM cards, and had been working with the syndicate for periods ranging from six months to two years.
'They received instructions from their supervisors via the Telegram application. Each day, withdrawals ranged between RM5,000 and RM8,000, after which the money was packaged and sent to a designated address through a delivery service company,' he said.
According to Rusdi, further inspection of the seized ATM cards revealed that 18 of the account numbers linked to the investment fraud did not exist.
He said all suspects, aged between 26 and 36, were released on police bail on Aug 12, and the case is being investigated under Section 424 of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951.

Everyone entering the premises were individually scanned before being allowed in. Dr Akmal will be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code at the magistrate's court today. Section 505(b) handles those causing fear or alarm to the public, and to induce them to commit an offence against public order. If convicted, a person can be punished with a prison term up to two years, a fine, or both. The Attorney General's Chambers previously said Dr Akmal will be charged over one of his Facebook posts, but did not specify which. Last week, Dr Akmal said he was called by the federal police to give his statement over the protest he led on the display of Jalur Gemilang in Kepala Batas, Penang. The AGC had previously warned Malaysians against vigilantism in cases involving the improper display of the Jalur Gemilang, amid furore over the Umno Youth protest.

The accused: Siti Hajar Aflah arriving at the Magistrate's Court in Sepang. — Bernama SEPANG: A secondary school English teacher was charged in the Magistrate's Court here with causing public alarm by spreading unverified information regarding the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir. Siti Hajar Aflah Sharuddin, 39, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani yesterday. She is alleged to have spread false statements, claiming that Zara Qairina died after being put in a washing machine, on her TikTok account 'SHA_Abrienda' at 1.20pm on Aug 6, with the intent to cause alarm to the public. The statement was seen and heard by a police officer at the KL International Airport Terminal 2, Bernama reported. Siti Hajar Aflah was charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which provides imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine or both, upon conviction. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Nadia Mohd Izhar offered bail at RM10,000 in one surety. Lawyer Mohamad Zaiful Bahrin Kamde applied for a lower bail of RM3,000 on grounds that his client is a single mother with three school-going children and has to support her parents. 'My client is a teacher at the Education Ministry with an income of RM5,000 a month. 'She also supports three children aged 10, 11 and 12, and parents aged 65 and 66, with the mother suffering a mild stroke,' he said.
