Two from Warangal in top 50 in UPSC, state scheme a blessing for 7 beneficiaries
HYDERABAD: Warangal was the toast of Telangana on Tuesday with two candidates from the city making it to the top 50 in the UPSC Mains examination.
Ettaboyina Sai Shivani achieved All India Rank 11 while Ravula Jayasimha Reddy secured AIR 46.
A total of 1,009 candidates qualified nationwide, with several successful aspirants from Telangana. Sai Shivani, daughter of E Raju, a medical representative, succeeded in her second attempt. Jayasimha Reddy, an IIT-Hyderabad graduate in electrical engineering, is currently undergoing IPS training.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy congratulated the seven candidates who received financial assistance under the Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhayahastam scheme, and successfully cleared the UPSC Civils. In a message, the chief minister said that it was a matter of great pride that seven beneficiaries of the scheme were selected for the prestigious Civil Services in the very first year of its launch.
The candidates who received financial assistance under the state government's scheme and cleared the examination are: Ettaboyina Sai Shivani, Hari Prasad Potharaju, Preethi Raparthi, Nagaraja Naik Banothu, Suryateja Thogaru, Anjaneyulu Gokamalla and Ramtenki Sudhaker.
IITH graduate achieves 46 rank in Civils in fifth attempt
Jayasimha Reddy, an IIT-Hyderabad graduate in electrical engineering, is currently undergoing IPS training. He had previously cleared the exam in his third attempt, ranking 104, and later achieved AIR 46 in his fifth attempt to join the IAS. Son of an agricultural scientist, Jayasimha has shown a consistent interest in agriculture and rural development.
He told TNIE: 'I have always wanted to serve society and contribute to addressing developmental challenges. Agriculture, healthcare, and education are my areas of interest.' Jayasimha noted the importance of enjoying the preparation process, staying focused, and seeking regular feedback and guidance from mentors.
Among other achievers from the state was S Saikiran from Mannanur village, Nagarkurnool district, who secured AIR 298.
He belongs to a Dalit background and is the son of a farmer; his success has been received with joy by his community.
Another candidate, Annu Koushik Narasimha, son of Deputy Superintendent of Police A Venugopal, secured AIR 225. An alumnus of IIT Roorkee with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Koushik received congratulations from Director General of Police Dr Jitender.

Suspension of police commissioner rankles police establishment

Chinnaswamy Stadium, that claimed 11 lives, has left the police rank and file across the State deeply disgruntled. While those in service are unable to give vent to it their anger, at least three former Bengaluru City Police Commissioners -- Jyoti Prakash Mirji, Bhaskar Rao and N.S. Megharik -- have openly condemned the government's action and said the police were being made 'scapegoats.' Where is preliminary probe? Mr. Mirji termed the government action 'irresponsible' and done to 'save their own skin.' 'There was not even a preliminary inquiry conducted which found a prima facie lapse. How could a commissioner be suspended like this?' he questioned. Mr. Rao, now associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), took to social media and said this was the 'darkest day in the history of Karnataka police' and said this was 'the prize for telling the truth and slogging the whole night to keep Bengaluru safe.' Mr. Megharik said that the police were only a small part of the event and there were bigger stakeholders. 'Mistakes may happen but this is not the way to deal with them. As IPS and former Commissioners fraternity, we are upset,' he said on Friday. IPS officers' Association, Karnataka, was scheduled to meet on Friday evening to chart their next course of action, but the meeting was postponed at the last minute. Plans are on to meet the Chief Minister and register their protest at the decision, multiple sources said. One of the IPS officers suspended is expected to challenge his suspension in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). Sources said the police fraternity is trying to build a strong case to counter the political leadership's allegation that they were not kept in loop about the event at the stadium and also to show how the police advice was overruled. Anger against political class A senior officer from the city rued that the political leadership first put pressure on them to hold a big celebration at short notice, overruling their advice, and later 'betrayed' them as a face-saving ploy. 'There is anger in the force even among juniors. How do we pacify or control them when our leadership has disregarded and unfairly made us scapegoats?' asked a senior officer. Another officer said that when things had gone wrong, they were being asked whether they had rejected the proposal for the event in writing. 'If the default mode of thinking of officers becomes how to save themselves from the axe, it will be a blow to policing,' he said. Public support Meanwhile, the city police have been getting public support from citizens online. The campaign #IstandwithBangalorePolice was trending on social media on Friday. City-based historian, who has written extensively on cricket, Ramachandra Guha, took to social media and wrote: 'Karnataka's ruling politicians and cricket administrators are jointly responsible for Wednesday's tragedy. Suspension has to be ratified by Centre The suspension of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers has to be ratified by the Union Government within 30 days and if they reject it, the suspension gets revoked, sources said. With the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) coming to the support of the police, claiming the Congress government has made them 'scapegoats', this procedural requirement may take a political turn, sources said. 'Procedurally, the government should have conducted a preliminary inquiry and suspended officials based on the report. No such inquiry was completed before suspension. This may become a bone of contention,' a senior IPS officer said.

Bengaluru stampede: RCB official challenges arrest in High Court, alleges no preliminary inquiry
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 6 (ANI): Marketing and Revenue Head of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Nikhil Sosale, on Friday approached Karnataka High Court challenging his arrest in connection with the stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB's victory celebration. Sosale was arrested by the Bengaluru Police in the early hours of June 6 (Friday). He has contended that the arrest was illegal, arbitrary and not in accordance with the law. He claimed that he was arrested without any materials and even before the police had conducted a preliminary enquiry. He has thus sought to declare his arrest as illegal. Earlier in the day, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) President Raghu Ram Bhat, Secretary A Shankar, Treasurer ES Jairam petition, and other KSCA office bearers moved the High Court seeking to quash the FIR filed against them in the stampede case. On Thursday, the Bengaluru Police registered an FIR against the RCB franchise; DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., an event management company; and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for culpable homicide, illegal assembly, and other serious charges. A day after the stampede that claimed the lives of 11 people, the Karnataka Police suspended multiple IPS officers, including the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, B Dayananda. Apart from Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar HT, Assistant Commissioner of Police Balakrishna and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK were also suspended with immediate effect. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for politicising the recent stampede. His remarks came after the BJP accused the Congress-led state government of making the police a 'scapegoat' in the incident. CM Siddaramaiah said the state government has already taken action against officials who were found to be 'visibly responsible' and 'negligent in their duty.' 'They are doing it for politics. I don't do politics. We have taken action against those who were visibly responsible and found to be negligent in their duty,' the Chief Minister said here. Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra accused the state government of only acting when pressure was put on them. 'The state government has acted only after coming under pressure. Action has been taken against RCB and the Karnataka Cricket Association. Yesterday, the Chief Minister suddenly suspended senior police officers, including the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, and five other officials,' Vijayendra said. (ANI)
