India Extend Dominance In White-Ball Formats, Retain Top Spot In ODIs, T20Is
India retained their top position in the ODIs and T20Is to extend their dominance in the white-ball formats but slipped a place to fourth spot in the Test format, in which Australia reigned supreme, in the latest ICC annual men's ranking update issued on Monday. The latest rankings rate all matches played since May 2024 at 100 per cent and those of the previous two years at 50 per cent. In the ODI rankings, 2023 World Cup finalists India have strengthened their grip at the top on the back of a victorious ICC Champions Trophy campaign, improving their rating points from 122 to 124.
Coming in second place are the runners-up at the Champions Trophy, New Zealand, overtaking their Trans-Tasman rivals Australia, who now occupy the third spot.
Sri Lanka, who enjoyed an excellent run at home in recent months, including ODI series wins against India and Australia, are in fourth place after gaining five rating points, leapfrogging Pakistan (fifth with a gain of one point) and South Africa (sixth with loss of four points) in the process.
Afghanistan also climbed up the ladder – moving to seventh following a four-point improvement – at the expense of former world champions England, who fell to eighth after dropping four points.
West Indies, meanwhile, rose to the ninth spot after gaining five points to surpass Bangladesh, who dropped to 10th with a four-point decline.
India boss shortest format
In T20Is, the current world champions India are placed at the top, although their lead over the second-placed Australia has reduced from 10 to nine points.
For the first time ever, the annual update features 100 teams in the global T20I rankings, with the updated list including all sides that have played a minimum of eight T20Is over the past three years.
The original global T20I rankings were launched in 2019 and included 80 sides.
The 2022 edition champions England, sit at number three, with New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa at four, five, and six respectively.
Sri Lanka's surge continues in the shortest format of the game as well, now seventh in the rankings after overtaking Asian rivals Pakistan (8). Bangladesh and Afghanistan follow their fellow Asian teams at ninth and 10th places, respectively.
Ireland also showed improvement, swapping spots with Zimbabwe to sit in the 11th rank.
Australia rule Tests
Reigning World Test Championship holders Australia have retained their top spot in the Test team rankings, though their lead was trimmed from 15 to 13 points after the annual update.
Pat Cummins' side boasts a rating of 126, staying well in front of the chasing pack.
Ben Stokes-led England made a big jump, moving up into the second place while overtaking both South Africa and India.
England's improved position comes on the back of winning three out of their four Test series in the past year. Their rating points climbed to 113, while South Africa (111) and India (105) each slipped one place to third and fourth, respectively.
The rest of the top 10 remains unchanged, with New Zealand holding fifth place, followed by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
Only 10 teams are currently ranked in the Test table. Ireland need to play one more Test in the next 12 months to qualify for a ranking, while Afghanistan must play three more matches to join the list.

Wayne Smith's rebuilding of his reputation as a coach has served as an example to former England head coach Stuart Lancaster, he told the Sunday Times. Lancaster bounced back once with Leinster when he was cast aside by England after their disastrous first round exit at the 2015 Rugby World Cup they hosted. Now the 55-year-old Englishman must do it all over again, this time with Ireland's weakest province Connacht, after being dismissed by Top 14 side Racing 92 earlier this season. Smith's path to coaching redemption after being fired as All Blacks coach in 2001 came via English Premiership side Northampton Saints. It ended with him becoming a two-time World Cup winner as assistant coach of the All Blacks to first Graham Henry and then Steve Hansen a knighthood followed to boot. "He's won the World Cup but he wasn't the head coach," said Lancaster of Smith. "He's respected as a coach who's made a difference to people. "That means more to me than anything. Making sure you're there to enjoy your time with your mates, and that your family enjoy it. "Everyone's part of the journey." Lancaster, who guided Leinster to four European Cup finals with the highlight winning the 2018 edition, said he has to pinch himself at times to grasp what he has made of his career. "I was asked this question: if you look back to when you were a teacher, would you take where you're at?" he said. "If you said to me when I was a teacher at 28 years old that I would end up coaching England, coaching in France, coaching in Ireland, winning the European Cup, beating the All Blacks? I'd pull your hand off." At the same time, though, he feels he still has to accomplish more if he is to retire a contented man. "But if you said to me right now, am I satisfied and ready to finish?" he said. "No, I'm not. "I'm still seeking the real true fulfilment. A New Zealand psychologist, Dave Hadfield, said if you were to retire now, would your soul be at rest? I went, no, I don't think it is. "Until that happens, I'll keep on going. My wife says to me, 'When the hell is that going to be?'" To that he replied dryly "when Connacht win the European Cup)" which given he has signed a two year contract is asking something as they finished 13th in the URC Championship this term. Lancaster says things did not work out at Racing because of a combination of things, although he believes he was moving things in the right direction. "I was promised to be in control of the rugby programme but that never really happened," he said. "The lack of patience: it takes more than 16 months to turn around an organisation and to have it pulled away from you when, yeah, it's not going great but it's going in the right direction. "You look at Manchester United. Once you're in that downward slide of poor recruitment, poor coaching, poor culture, poor identity, there's no magic wand you can wave in a club environment." Lancaster may have been let go by Racing 92 but he remained very much in demand. Wales and Australia were linked with him, but after seemingly been in pole position for the Wallabies post he lost out to Les Kiss. Lancaster said he was mindful of there being a life outside rugby. "What I don't want to do is keep trying to get to the very top of Everest all the time and then get to 70 years old and realise 'Jesus Christ, I've just missed life'. Global shooting stars gather in Munich as ISSF World Cup kicks off June 10
The global royalty of Rifle/Pistol sport shooting, is set to descend on one of its most hallowed turfs Munich's Olympic Shooting range for the third International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup (Rifle/Pistol) stage, set for June 10-15. A massive 695 athletes, among them a constellation of Olympic and World champions and legends of the sport from 78 countries, will make feature in Munich World Cup. There are 10 finals on the roster and competitions begin on Tuesday. The season began with a double-header in South America where Indian Rifle and Pistol shooters picked up 15 medals, including six gold, helping the team finish a creditable second and third respectively on the standings. The Munich leg will, however, present a much tougher challenge given the much wider presence of the world's best shooters. While many stars like Li would be making their first appearance on the ISSF circuit in Munich after the Paris Olympics last year, India, who have fielded a 22-strong team across the 10 events, including the two mixed team events, will also look forward to a few anticipated comebacks. Prominent among them will be Swapnil Kusale, the Paris bronze medallist in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions (3P), who has fought his way back into the team with some great scores on the domestic circuit. Two-time Olympian Elavenil Valarivan will also be seen in international competitive action for the first time since Paris, although she did make the trip to Buenos Aires and Lima as an RPO shooter. Reigning Asian Games champion Palak in the women's air pistol, also makes it back to the team and a few world cup debuts, like that of newly crowned women's air rifle national champion Ananya Naidu and the two new faces at this level in men's air pistol-Aditya Malra and Nishant Rawat, are also to look forward to, as India look to continue to explore their depth in the two disciplines, ahead of bigger challenges later in the year. Among the constellation of stars, none shines brighter than two Chinese marksmen, the legendary Li Yuehong, reigning Olympic champion and three-time Olympic medalist in the 25m rapid-fire pistol (RFP) and Sheng Lihao, the reigning Olympic, World and Asian champion, world-record holder and a 20-year-old air-rifle sensation. In fact, in his last outing in Munich last year, Sheng set a new finals world record in his pet 10m air rifle and is coming off yet another World Cup win, in Lima. Li would be appearing at this level for the first time after his Paris Olympics gold. The Munich World Cup, set at a time when international shooters are generally nearing their peak and given its legacy and favourable location, like always has attracted the who's who of Rifle and Pistol shooting. Every strong shooting nation has sent its strongest available squads. China, outright winners of the first two legs, besides Li and Sheng, are also bringing their men's air pistol Olympic champion Xie Yu, in what is also a 22-member squad. Sheng, by the way, is also the mixed air rifle Olympic champion but his partner in Paris, Huang Yuting, will be missing in action. Hosts Germany have also fielded a strong 27-member contingent led by their pistol legend and former Olympic and World champion Christian Reitz. Anna Janssen, their women's air rifle qualification world record holder, would also be starting on home soil. Another RFP legend Jean Quiquampoix, part of a 16-member French squad, will help complete the troika of legends who have completely dominated the RFP event over the last decade or so. The Koreans will also be there in full force with 19 shooters, among them two of their three reigning women Olympic champions Yang Jiin (25m pistol) and Oh Yejin (10m air pistol). Reigning mixed team air pistol Paris champions Damir Mikec and Zorana Arunovic will headline a 15-member Serbian squad, while women's 3P exponent Chiara Leone, will complete the line-up of reigning Olympic champions in Munich. She will accompany an equally high-quality 11-member Switzerland team. Among former Olympic champions who have entered to start for their respective nations are Javad Faroughi (Iran-10m air pistol), Nina Christen (Switzerland-women's 3P) and Greek women's pistol legend Anna Korakaki. Several Paris Olympic medallists like the USA's Sagen Maddalena, Italy's Paolo Monna and Danilo Sollazzo and Alexandra Le of Kazakhstan, are also set to start in Munich. The USA's former world champion Alison Weisz also shoots in Munich, highlighting the strong US presence. Other legendary shooters in attendance will include the likes of Ukrainian rifle specialist Serhii Kulish (two-time Olympic medalist), who is part of a 21-member squad, the Czech Republic's Petar Gorsa, Hungary's Istvan Peni and Turkiye's Yusuf Dikec. A group of 25 individual neutral athletes (AIN) are also expected to pose a strong challenge in the 10 events on the schedule.
