Gold Demand Rises As Yellow Metal's Rates Hit 1-Month Low: Check Price In Your City On August 2
In the international market, spot gold hit its one-month low level this week and saw a third consecutive weekly loss.
Gold Prices In India Today, August 2: Physical gold demand in India, along with other key Asian markets, has improved this week as a pullback in prices led to buying interest, according to a Reuters report. In the international market, spot gold hit its one-month low level this week and saw a third consecutive weekly loss.
In India, 24-karat gold prices were trading at around Rs 97,700 per 10 grams on Friday, after rising to Rs 1,00,555 last week. However, the gold prices on Saturday jumped after weak jobs data in the US.
'This week, footfall was better than last week. Buyers were inquiring about price trends and making small purchases," Reuters has cited a Pune-based jeweller as saying.
Discounts offered by Indian dealers narrowed to as much as $7 an ounce over official domestic prices, inclusive of 6% import and 3% sales levies, compared to up to $15 last week.
Jewellers were keen to make purchases to replenish inventory after a correction in overseas prices, but a significant drop in the rupee offset the impact of the price fall to an extent, said a Mumbai-based bullion dealer with a private bank.
India's gold consumption in 2025 is set to fall to a five-year low, as record-high prices are denting jewellery purchases, the World Gold Council said on Thursday.
'China appears to slightly buy the dip in gold… trading volume for the physical proxy contract AU9999 on the Shanghai Gold Exchange has been on the rise (11 tons traded yesterday), reflecting a renewed interest in the metal," said Hugo Pascal, a precious metals trader at InProved, according to Reuters.
In Hong Kong, gold was sold at par to a $1.50 premium, while Singapore prices ranged from par to a $1.40 premium.
In Japan, bullion was sold at par to a premium of $0.60.
'There was lots of demand to buy if the price dropped even slightly. Regardless of the Japan-US trade deal, gold is being purchased as an asset class amid low interest rates," a Japan-based trader said.

Trump sending $2000 stimulus check in August? Truth about eligibility and payment date
Rumors about President Donald Trump planning to send a stimulus check, worth $2000, in August are doing the rounds on social media. This speculation has caused confusion among Americans hoping for financial relief. Donald Trump speaks about not using an autopen, after signing a proclamation officially declaring this National Purple Heart Day(REUTERS) But despite viral posts and several unverified articles making bold claims, there is no official confirmation from the US government or IRS about such a payment. What's actually happening? At the heart of the chatter is a July 19 article by Rick Adams, suggesting that lawmakers are considering a fourth round of stimulus payments due to growing public pressure. The piece outlines potential eligibility criteria, such as $75,000 income limits for single filers, $150,000 for married couples, and additional amounts for dependents, with possible direct deposits starting in late 2025 or early 2026. However, no legislative text, IRS statement, or action from Congress supports this claim. What do the IRS and Treasury say? As of now, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Treasury Department have not announced any new stimulus payments. The most recent IRS bulletin, IR-2025-75, dated July 15, focused on tax security and extensions, not new relief checks. The last official stimulus checks were distributed in 2021 under the American Rescue Plan, with up to $1,400 per eligible individual. While the IRS is still processing unclaimed Recovery Rebate Credits from that period (worth $2.4 billion), the deadline to file for those expired on April 15, 2025. What about the DOGE payments? Trump mentioned a so-called $5,000 'DOGE dividend' in February 2025, tied to potential savings from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). However, this remains a proposal only—there is no congressional approval, and it is not linked to a $2,000 check scheduled for August. Social Security checks Regular monthly payments from the Social Security Administration, including retirement, disability (SSDI), and survivor benefits, continue to go out, as usual. These are not stimulus payments, but rather ongoing benefits based on eligibility. The 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) provides some support to beneficiaries but doesn't match inflation levels impacting food, housing, and healthcare costs, especially for low-income households. IRS warning Misinformation about the $2,000 stimulus has sparked scam attempts, including fraudulent messages and fake application forms. The IRS has warned the public to be cautious and to verify any claims via or other official sources.

Golf view: High-end spends fall flat
New Delhi: Residents of Delhi Development Authority's Golf View Apartments in Sector 19B, Dwarka, have expressed concerns about maintenance after taking possession of their upscale flats. The luxury housing project had offered high-income group flats, super HIG flats and penthouses via an e-auction last year. The residents are now complaining of visible dampness on the walls, both in the flats and in the common areas, due to what they claim is poor construction quality. Besides maintenance, the absence of designated parking spaces, for which DDA had levied special charges, also causes frequent disputes among residents. "DDA still appears not to have got fire clearance nor made ventilation arrangements," said a resident. "Many house owners are finding it difficult to secure parking and are consequently parking their vehicles on colony roads. DDA has still not opened the basement parking, forcing people to park their vehicles in common areas. If you miss parking your car in a particular spot, that space is occupied by somebody else, leading to frequent arguments. What is the point of developing such a huge complex when the parking facility is not made fully operational?" There are 1,100 families living there and each household has 2-3 vehicles. Some residents complained of leakages in the basement in K Block as well as debris strewn in several places along the pillars, which too haven't been fully completed. In other blocks, the corners still have heaps of construction material or debris. The tiles installed on the exterior walls of flats have begun to detach at many spots. You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi "To give this place an aesthetic look, DDA had sandstone cladding up to two floors of the buildings. But it seems the quality of material used for pasting these tiles wasn't good and the sandstone has started detaching from the walls," complained another resident at C Block. "DDA used steel screws to affix them, but the technique hasn't helped. This is the scenario when we bought the flats for Rs 3.5 crore and above through the e-auction. " He added, "Flat buyers paid maintenance charges to DDA and ideally, these primary things should have been sorted out by now. When we moved to these high-end apartments, there were expectations of advanced facilities as assured by the officials. But till today, we are struggling even for the basic facilities." Locals also complained that there are leakages in supply pipes from overhead tanks. "We now realise this was an old project. Construction began in 2014. Iron pipes were laid for water supply when nowhere in the city are such pipes used for construction," said one resident. "Not just that, no provision for air conditioning units and electrical connections was made. RERA norms are being compromised here." The aggrieved residents claimed to have written a letter to DDA, submitting photos to press their claims. They are yet to get any relief, they said. They grumbled about DDA not delivering what it had promised to buyers. "Despite the poor construction, DDA even sold service quarters, costing up to Rs 60 lakh, through the e-auction," revealed a resident. No immediate response was received from DDA. Govt to diversify Kota's economy with focus on tourism
1 2 Jaipur: Over the past couple of decades, coaching centres have been instrumental in driving the economy of Kota. However, with incidents of student suicides not abating, the govt wants to de-risk and diversify it, with tourism being given priority. Earlier this week, tourism minister Diya Kumari announced Rs 1 crore financial assistance to an industry body to bring travel agents and tour operators from across the country to Kota and promote destinations in the Hadauti region, which is rich in ancient forts, palaces, lakes, and waterfalls. The minister has been vocal in promoting tourism in lesser-known destinations by holding roadshows and tourism industry events in every district. In fact, the focus on Kota, the leading district in the Hadauti region, aligns well with its improved infrastructure. Hussain Khan, president of the Hotel Federation of Rajasthan (HFR), which is organising the event in January 2026, said, "Kota's expansion as an economic hub of Hadauti owes it to the thriving coaching centres. There is nothing much besides coaching centres. After the incidents of student suicides and negative publicity nationally, the govt is actively thinking of a second line of economic activities." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Susan Boyle Is Now so Thin and Looks Beautiful! Undo Because of the coaching centres, not only do lakhs of students reside in the city, but their parents also visit them. "Students and their parents visiting the city can be considered a captive market for tourism. But the opportunities are immense. The hotel industry has come up in a big way. Roads and transport facilities are very tourist-friendly. That's why the city has everything to become a leading tourist hub in the state," added Khan. With the promotion of Kota, neglected landmarks like the Gragron Fort in Jhalawar, Ramgarh Crater in Baran, and Buddhist caves at Kolvi are also expected to draw attention for development. In fact, Kota itself, with its developed Chambal riverfront, will pivot the momentum in the region, added Khan. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
