A high school team from Ghayathi in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra region has won the 2025 Earth Prize for the Middle East with an AI-powered education platform called EcoMind Academy.
Developed by Sustainability Heroes - a team made up of schoolgirls Israa Ashraf, Almaha Almansoori, Fatma Hussen, and Jourey Abdullah from Al Reef Private School - the app integrates sustainability into school subjects through gamified challenges, quizzes, and rewards, aiming to make environmental education engaging and actionable for young learners.
Organised by the Earth Foundation, the annual Earth Prize recognises student-led innovations in sustainability. This year, EcoMind Academy stood out among 1,300 teams from 138 countries, earning the Middle East regional award and a USD 12,500 prize. The team's app not only encourages eco-conscious habits in the classroom, but also connects students with local environmental businesses and initiatives through workshops, school campaigns, and field activities.
The students plan to use the prize to expand the app's reach, enhance its AI features, and launch it across government schools in the UAE. They also hope to introduce EcoMind Academy to other countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia and Oman, contributing to broader environmental awareness across the GCC.

US Grants Nvidia License to Export H20 Chips to China

Taarek Refaat The U.S. Department of Commerce has begun issuing licenses to semiconductor giant Nvidia, allowing the company to export its H20 chips to China, removing a major obstacle to the AI leader's access to one of its key markets, a U.S. official told Reuters. The move follows last month's reversal of a ban imposed in April on selling the H20 chip to China, which came amid an escalating tariff exchange between Washington and Beijing initiated by President Donald Trump, reaching the level of a trade war. Nvidia Stock Price: 182.74 USD +1.96 (1.09%) Nvidia designed the H20 processor specifically for the Chinese market to comply with AI chip export controls implemented under former President Joe Biden. However, the company later warned that Trump's expanded restrictions would slash its July-quarter revenue by $8 billion. Two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with President Trump on Wednesday. In July, Nvidia announced plans to apply for U.S. government approval to resume H20 sales to China, and later received assurances that licenses would be granted soon. The development comes as global tech giants race to build more advanced AI models capable of reasoning and performing tasks autonomously, pushing toward so-called Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which would surpass human cognitive abilities. Industry leaders are pouring resources into making AI-powered tools, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, Meta AI, and Anthropic's Claude, indispensable for consumers and developers alike, a push fueled by high-performance chips like those Nvidia produces. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Space Services Gains Market Momentum Space Services achieved 2% year-on-year revenue growth in Q2 2025, reaching USD 100 million, driven by double-digit expansion in the Oil & Gas segment. The business performed strongly across secure communications and mobile satellite services domains, firmly benefiting from the drive for secure and sovereign communications capabilities in the UAE. The company anticipates this drive to continue in the medium to long term. Growth is set to accelerate in the second half of 2025 as the recently launched Thuraya-4 satellite starts commercial operations, offering several new mobile satellite services for defense and security as well as commercial applications. These capabilities are increasingly relevant in the context of recent regional events.
