Cleo Redd Fisher Museum wins award for Johnny Appleseed exhibit
According to an announcement, the award was presented during the association's annual awards banquet on March 30. Leslie Braden, president of the board of directors, and Laurie Bower, trustee, accepted the award on behalf of the museum.
The exhibit, developed by museum curator Kenny Libben, debuted in summer 2024. It explored the life, myth and legacy of John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, and examined his influence on early American agriculture, conservation and culture.
The exhibit was made possible by a grant from the Ashland County Community Foundation and is now available as a traveling display for other museums, libraries and cultural centers.
'This award is not just recognition of a single exhibit,' Braden said. 'But a celebration of our museum's continued commitment to high-quality programming, community engagement and historical storytelling. We are proud of what our team − and our volunteers − continue to accomplish year after year.'
This award adds to a list of honors for the museum, which is operated by the Mohican Historical Society, a nonprofit group.
In 2015, Libben received the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award from the Ohio Local History Alliance, followed by the Hunter-Burley Award from the Small Museum Association in 2024. The museum's volunteers have also been recognized, with John and Alice Schopfer receiving the Ohio Local History Alliance's Outstanding Individual Achievement Award in 2020 and Jeanne Griffin named Volunteer of the Year by the Ohio Museums Association in 2021.
In 2022, Libben was elected as an officer of the International Council of Museums' Committee for Regional Museums, earning international recognition for his work. Since then, he has been invited to collaborate with and speak at museums across the globe, further raising the profile of the Loudonville-based institution.

Unfortunately, I've never been to Italy, but I've visited other countries in Europe. We can enjoy the beauty in other parts of the world and learn a lot from other cultures. "Like I feel like it's probably even worse than he would like it to be." It's not clear if Kimmel plans to move to Italy or continue to live and work in the United States. Ironically, as Trump makes dramatic changes that will help the American people, late night talk shows like Kimmel's have taken a hit. "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert's show was canceled in July, even though his ratings beat Kimmel's and 'Tonight Show' host Jimmy Fallon's. Trump, not one to shy from trash talking his political foes, has predicted that Kimmel and Fallon will be canceled next. I have a sliver of respect for liberals who make good on their threat to leave America when a Republican is elected. At the same time, it's silly. We are blessed to live in the most powerful country in the world, and it's the people who elect our president, Republican or Democrat. If a person as wealthy and famous as Kimmel isn't happy to live in America because of Trump, by all means, don't let the door hit you on the way out. When an intelligent and funny guy like Kimmel says America under Trump is worse than he thought it would be, what does he mean? Our economy is thriving, the border is secure, taxes have been cut and there might soon be peace in the Middle East and Ukraine thanks to Trump. The Grammy award-winning musician will headline a halftime show during YouTube's first exclusive NFL broadcast next month, which will stream live from Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil on Sept. 5. That's the NFL week 1 matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the reigning AFC-winning Kansas City Chiefs. 'This year has been truly rewarding, and the timing of this opportunity — to be part of such an important moment like YouTube's first-ever NFL live broadcast — is perfect,' the singer shared in an exclusive written statement. 'With my latest album 'Tropicoqueta,' I set out to represent the many facets of my Latin culture, something I'm incredibly passionate about in everything I do.
