NIA arrests four more for links with IS in 2022 Coimbatore car blast case
CHENNAI/COIMBATORE: In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the 2022 car blast case in Coimbatore, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested four more accused on Wednesday, for recruitment to the banned terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS). This takes the total arrests in the case across the state to eight.
The arrested have been identified as Ahmed Ali, Jawahar Sathik, Raja Abdullah alias MAC Raja and Sheik Dawood. They had been allegedly radicalised by Jameel Basha, founder of Madras Arabic College who, along with his associates, were involved in recruiting youth and subtly infusing Salafi-Jihadi ideology, under the guise of imparting Arabic classes in the state, the NIA said.
The arrests followed an investigation into the car explosion on October 23, 2022 near Sangameswarar Temple. Jameesha Mubin, who died in the blast, was found to be an IS sympathiser.
NIA had earlier arrested Basha and his associates Irshath, Syed Abdur Rahman and Mohammed Hussain who were using classrooms and social media for their radicalisation activities, NIA said.

New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested four more accused in the Tamil Nadu radicalisation and recruitment case, an offshoot of the Coimbatore car bomb blast case, according to an official statement. The NIA has arrested a total of eight people in this case so far. As per the release, the accused persons identified as Ahmed Ali, Jawahar Sathik, Raja Abdullah aka MAC Raja, and Sheik Dawood the four accused had been radicalised by Jameel Basha, the founder of Madras Arabic College, who, along with his associates, was involved in recruiting gullible youth and subtly infused Salafi-Jihadi ideology to them in the guise of imparting Arabic language classes in Tamil Nadu. NIA had earlier arrested and charged Jameel Basha and his associates Irshath, Syed Abdur Rahman and Mohammed Hussain, who were using the classrooms and social platform to carry out their anti-national radicalisation and recruitment activities. NIA investigations have revealed that the accused had promoted Khilafat ideology and martyrdom through jihad, advocating violence and armed struggle to establish an Islamic state after removing the democratically elected government. The radicalisation and recruitment activities had led to the Coimbatore car bomb blast in October 2022, in which the suicide bomber Jamesha Mubeen carried out a vehicle-borne IED attack in front of an ancient temple in Coimbatore. NIA is continuing with its investigation in the TN ISIS Radicalisation and Recruitment Case, as part of its efforts to check radical terror activities against the nation. (ANI)

NIA chargesheets key accused in 2023 Chhattisgarh IED blast case
New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted a key accused in the case relating to the IED blast that had killed 10 District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and their civilian driver in Chhattisgarh by members of the banned CPI (Maoist) terror outfit in April 2023. According to an official release, the accused identified as Bandra Tati alias Hunga has been charged under various sections of IPC, Explosive Substances Act, Chhattisgarh Vishesh Jan Suraksha Adhiniyam, 2005, and UA(P) Act. During investigation, the NIA discovered that Bandra Tati was the president of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangh (DAKMS), a frontal organisation of CPI (Maoist), in Acheli Village in Dantewada District, Chhattisgarh. He was involved in the transportation of the IEDs used in the attack, carried out in Aranpur with the aim to loot weapons of the security forces as part of a criminal conspiracy to wage war against Government of India and strike terror in the minds of the people. Bandra Tati was in the possession of the prohibited explosive material, which he had received from senior cadres of the proscribed terrorist organisation. He had also attended conspiracy meetings organised by CPI (Maoist), as per NIA investigations. As per the release, the state police, during initial investigations, had chargesheeted 26 accused in 2023 before NIA re-registered the case as RC-07/2024/NIA/RPR on 23rd February 2024. Further investigation into the matter is underway. (ANI)
