‘Precision vs speed': Ex-Google employee shares key mindset differences between Singapore and Vietnam
Quang Do, a Vietnamese founder, shared how moving from Google Singapore to Saigon revealed two contrasting worlds, one driven by precision and planning, the other by flexibility and relationships.
He shared the post on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, 'I spent 3 years at Google Singapore, visiting Vietnam monthly for work. Each trip revealed 2 radically different mindsets for life, work, and fulfillment.'
The founder shared 11 key cultural differences he noticed between Singapore and Vietnam.
Singapore vs Vietnam:
Precision vs speed:
According to him, in Singapore, everything must be done with perfect accuracy. A single typo or mistake can ruin a whole project. The system demands 100% precision. In Vietnam, things are different. People value getting things done quickly, even if it's only about 80% perfect.
Trust and relationships:
Singaporeans trust systems and rules. They believe strangers will follow the laws and agreements. In Vietnam, people start with caution and warn each other to be careful.
Negotiation culture:
In Singapore, prices and rules are fixed. There is no room for negotiation. Vietnam operates the opposite way; nearly everything is open for discussion and bargaining.
Entrepreneurship and opportunity:
Walking through Vietnam, it is clear that many people are hustling, starting new businesses, selling, and creating. In Singapore, the high salaries mean fewer people take risks to start their own business.
Scale and possibility:
Do said Singapore's tall buildings and global companies can make a person feel small and like a tiny part of a huge machine. Vietnam, by contrast, offers a sense of possibility.
Other differences:
The founder also noticed how Singapore plans decades in advance, while Vietnam adapts in weeks.
Communication in Singapore is direct and documented; in Vietnam, it is flexible. While Singapore values multicultural blending, Vietnam treasures cultural roots.
He explained that trying to live by Singapore's system in Vietnam or vice versa can be exhausting. The key is learning to switch between the two ways of thinking.
Check out the post here:
The founder also believes that understanding these differences is essential for anyone working between Singapore and Vietnam.
Adapting to each mindset using precision when it is needed and flexibility when it works best is the key to building strong relationships and achieving success in both worlds.

Cabinet Approves Airport At Kota-Bundi In Rajasthan For Rs 1,507 Crore
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a proposal to set up a new airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of Rs 1,507 crore. The airport, to be completed in two years, will have an annual passenger handling capacity of 2 million and 1,089 acres (around 440.06 hectares) of land is being provided free of cost by the Rajasthan government for the project. Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the greenfield airport project at Kota-Bundi will be funded by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) through its internal accruals. Kota-Bundi constituency is represented by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal for developing a green field airport at Kota-Bundi at an estimated cost of Rs 1,507 crore, according to an official release. The state government has transferred 440.06 hectares of land to AAI for the airport, which will be suitable for the operation of narrow-body Airbus A321-type aircraft. "The project includes construction of a terminal building spanning an area of 20,000 sqm capable of handling 1,000 Peak Hour Passengers (PHP) with annual capacity of 2 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA), Runway 11/29 of dimensions 3200m x 45m, Apron with 07 parking bays for A321 type aircraft, two Link Taxiways, ATC cum Technical Block, Fire Station, car park and allied works," the release said. Vaishnaw said the airport will significantly improve regional connectivity and promote the local economy. AAI will fund the project through its internal accruals and is expected to be completed in 24 months. The new airport will be coming up around 23 kilometres away from the existing airport, Vaishnaw said. According to the release, the existing Kota airport is owned by AAI but cannot be developed for commercial operations due to inadequate land availability and urbanisation around the airport. The existing airport has a "runway (08/26) of dimensions 1220 m x 38 m, suitable for Code 'B' aircraft (such as DO-228), and an apron capable of accommodating two such aircraft. The terminal building spans an area of 400 sqm and is capable of handling 50 passengers during peak hours," it added. Kota, situated on the banks of the Chambal River, is recognised as Rajasthan's industrial capital and is also known as the educational coaching hub of the country. "Kota's prominence in educational and industrial sectors makes the Greenfield Airport a critical infrastructure project, aimed at addressing the anticipated traffic growth in the region," the release said. In the last 11 years, Vaishnaw said the number of operational airports in the country has more than doubled to 162 in 2025 from 74 in 2014. Also, the number of air passengers has increased to 41.2 crore this year from 16.8 crore in 2014, he added.

Centre approves ₹1,500 crore Kota-Bundi airport, ₹8,000 crore six-lane roads in Odisha
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday approved multiple infrastructure projects, including a new airport in Rajasthan's Kota and a six-lane road in Odisha. The proposal of Airports Authority of India (AAI) for development of Green Field Airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan was approved by the Cabinet — a major gain for the industrial capital of the state, which also sees a large influx of students every year who come to study for competitive exams. The Kota-Bundi Airport will be constructed at a cost of ₹ 1,507 crore, the government said in a press release. The investment will be funded by the AAI through internal accruals, it said. The Rajasthan government has already transferred 440.06 hectares of land to AAI for the construction of the Kota airport. The project includes construction of a Terminal Building spanning an area of 20,000 sq metres. It will be capable of handling 1000 Peak Hour Passengers (PHP) with annual capacity of 2 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA). The Kota-Bundi airport will also feature runway 11/29 of dimensions 3200m x 45m, Apron with 07 parking bays for A-321 type aircraft, two Link Taxiways, ATC cum Technical Block, Fire Station, car park and allied works. The construction of the Kota airport is being done keeping in mind the anticipated traffic growth in the region given the educational significance of the region, the Centre said. The existing Kota Airport is under the ownership of Airports Authority of India (AAI). It comprises a runway (08/26) of dimensions 1220 m x 38 m, suitable for Code 'B' aircraft (such as DO-228), and an apron capable of accommodating two such aircraft. The terminal building spans an area of 400 sqm and is capable of handling 50 passengers during peak hours. The Cabinet Committee also gave green signal to the construction of 6-Lane Access-Controlled Capital Region Ring Road. This road, known as the Bhubaneswar Bypass, will span across a length of 110.875 kilometres and will be constructed at a cost of ₹ 8307.74 crore. The road aims to reduce pressure on the traffic congestion on the Rameshwar to Tangi stretch of the national highway, which passes through highly urbanised cities including Khordha, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The project will provide significant benefit to Odisha and other eastern States by diverting heavy commercial traffic away from Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khordha Cities. This will enhance the efficiency of freight movement, reducing logistics cost and driving socio-economic growth in the region.
