He noted that the sector has evolved beyond just mineral extraction to become a key driver of economic growth, investment attraction and local employment generation.
During a comprehensive review meeting of the department of geology and mining, he said U.P's mining policy has now emerged as a model of transparency and technological efficiency.
Highlighting the department's performance, he noted that mineral revenue has recorded an average annual growth rate of 18.14% between FY 2021-22 and FY 2024-25. In FY 2024-25, revenue from major minerals stood at ₹ 608.11 crore.
In just the first two months of FY 2025-26, the state has already generated ₹ 623 crore in revenue.
The chief minister was informed that leases for major minerals such as phosphorite, iron ore, and gold have been successfully auctioned in recent years. He directed officials to expedite the composite licensing process further and ensure timely identification of potential mining zones along with the prompt preparation of geological reports. Emphasising the impact of transparent and investor-friendly policies, the chief minister noted that prominent companies like JSW, Adani Group, Tata Steel, and UltraTech Cement have shown strong interest in investing in Uttar Pradesh.
The department has undertaken substantial work across more than 70 sub-indicators to secure Uttar Pradesh a top position in the State Mining Readiness Index (SMRI). A 100% implementation of the Mine Surveillance System has been achieved in all mining districts, leading to significant improvements in the average timeline for environmental clearances and enhancing the overall transparency of regulatory procedures. He instructed that the remaining reforms be completed within the stipulated time frame to ensure Uttar Pradesh attains 'Category-A' status in SMRI.
To effectively curb illegal mining, transportation, and storage, the chief minister called for a robust monitoring mechanism in coordination with transport operators. He made it clear that mining activities will not be permitted in river catchment areas and strict accountability will be enforced against responsible officials if violations occur.
Officials reported that 57 technology-enabled check gates have been installed, and 21,477 vehicles have been blacklisted. Systems such as the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), colour coding, and white tagging are functioning efficiently. He directed that only GPS-enabled vehicles meeting the required standards should be authorised for mineral transportation and that their movement must be tracked in real-time through the VTS module.
Since 2024, the PGRS laboratory and drone surveys have identified 99 potential mining sites, of which 23 have been deemed suitable for operations. Post-monsoon assessments have also been conducted for sand/morang deposits in 52 locations.
Appreciating these efforts, the chief minister instructed that monitoring of active leases and volumetric analysis for accurate extraction assessment should be further intensified.
The meeting was also informed that the regulation fees collected from brick kilns amounted to ₹ 258.61 crore in 2024-25 and ₹ 70.80 crore as of 2025–26. The chief minister directed that the brick kiln sector be modernised.
He also directed that the process of issuing new leases for minor minerals be completed during the monsoon season, enabling mining activities to commence from October 15. He emphasised the optimal utilisation of the DMF fund, instructing that it be prioritised for public welfare initiatives, such as establishing Anganwadi centres, developing playgrounds, enhancing healthcare and skill training, and promoting water and energy conservation.

Maxvolt Energy receives land allotment for battery recycling facility in Aligarh

Maxvolt Energy has received a land allotment from the Government of Uttar Pradesh for setting up a lithium battery recycling and repurposing facility in Aligarh. The allotment letter was handed over by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the 'Uttar Pradesh – Udhyam Pradesh' event held in Lucknow on International MSME Day. The initiative is part of the state's ongoing efforts to promote industrial investment in clean energy and advanced manufacturing sectors. The company has been allotted 23,524 square metres of land for the proposed facility. The site is located near Maxvolt's existing battery manufacturing plant in Ghaziabad, which is expected to support integration across manufacturing and recycling operations. According to the company, the upcoming facility will focus on lithium battery end-of-life processing, including recovery of materials and component repurposing. The project is aligned with the broader objective of reducing import dependence on raw materials used in battery manufacturing and building capabilities for closed-loop battery lifecycle management within India. Maxvolt Energy CEO Satendra Shukla said the support from the Uttar Pradesh Government reinforces the company's efforts in domestic battery recycling. Co-founder and CTO Vishal Gupta added that the facility is intended to contribute to domestic value addition in battery materials and long-term resource circularity. The project adds to a growing number of industry initiatives focused on battery recycling and resource recovery, as the demand for lithium-ion batteries increases across electric mobility and stationary energy storage segments. It also aligns with state-level strategies to attract investments in clean technology and build supporting infrastructure for emerging industries.

Delhi developer Anant Raj to invest $2 billion on India data center boom

Anant Raj's move follows ambitious plans by India's top business houses Adani Group and Reliance Industries Ltd. to expand their footprint Bloomberg Anant Raj Ltd. plans to spend ₹18,000 crore ($2.1 billion) on data centers as it joins a growing list of Indian companies looking to ride the boom in demand for artificial intelligence and business process-led services in the country. The Delhi-based developer with a market value of $2.3 billion will launch two more data centers or server farms in the northern Indian state of Haryana. This is in addition to the one already operational, as it aims for a capacity of little over 300 megawatts by 2032, Amit Sarin, managing director at Anant Raj said. 'India is witnessing one of the fastest growth phases globally for data centers,' said Sarin in an interview, adding that the project will be funded through the company's own funds. Anant Raj's move follows ambitious plans by India's top business houses Adani Group and Reliance Industries Ltd. to expand their footprint. The trend is underscored by Barclays Plc's view that the South Asian nation will be a big beneficiary of the data center investment boom in Asia, driven by digitalization and rules requiring data to be stored within the country. Smaller firms are not far behind. Bengaluru-based RMZ Corp. is spending $1.7 billion on two data centers and Panchshil Realty is considering partnering with Blackstone Inc. to build a large data center in Mumbai. Data centers are expected to make up more than 40 per cent of Anant Raj's revenues in the next four years from 5 per cent at present, Sarin said. The company tied up with the French IT company Orange Business to provide cloud services to its clients along with data centers last year. 'India currently generates 28 per cent of the world's data but houses only 1 per cent of it locally, presenting a significant opportunity for expansion as data localization becomes inevitable,' Sarin said.
