Nine students remanded over alleged assault case in Chukai
CHUKAI: Nine students from a secondary school here, believed to be involved in an assault case against a male student last month, have been remanded for three days, beginning today.
Kemaman District Police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the remand order was issued by Judge Wan Suhaila Mohd to allow investigations under Section 147 of the Penal Code to be conducted.
He said that the students, aged between 15 and 18, were arrested at about 1.30 pm yesterday after police received a report from the 14-year-old victim.
'The incident reportedly occurred because one of the suspects was unhappy that the victim was still keeping photos of his ex-girlfriend, who is also the suspect's current girlfriend.
'The victim claimed he was assaulted by several students on May 27 and 28, causing him to suffer injuries to his head and back,' he said when contacted.

KUALA MUDA: Police have arrested the elderly man seen dragging a dog behind his motorcycle in a video that recently went viral on social media. The 82-year-old suspect was detained in front of a house in Bandar Puteri Jaya, Sungai Petani, at 8pm on Sunday and brought to the police station for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming an animal. If convicted, the offence carries a jail term of up to three years, a fine, or both. Police also confirmed that the dog, which sustained injuries, was taken to a veterinary clinic by the social media user who uploaded the video and is currently receiving treatment. The dog will be handed over to the Veterinary Services Department once treatment is completed. Hanyan said the suspect, who has no criminal record and tested negative for drugs, has been released on police bail due to his age and medical condition. Investigations are ongoing. It was reported that a 48-second video showed bystanders confronting the elderly man, who was seen dragging the dog chained to his motorcycle.

Sepang police raid five premises suspected of conducting illegal bitcoin mining activities
SEPANG: Police raided five premises suspected of conducting illegal Bitcoin mining activities during a special operation on the cryptocurrency mining machines here on Friday. Sepang district police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said five separate teams conducted the raids simultaneously, between 10am and 7pm, on three premises in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi and two in Putra Perdana. He said the investigation was initiated by him a few months ago in addition to complaints from the public. The special operation also involved a special team from the Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) headquarters in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Preliminary investigations found that each premises could generate profits of around RM15,000 to RM20,000 per month through illegal bitcoin mining. "We were informed that a syndicate had stolen electricity supply to carry out the Bitcoin mining activities, with losses to TNB amounting to RM86,089 a month," he said in a press conference here today. He said the total losses incurred by TNB in the Sepang area from January to this month are estimated to be around RM516,534. Norhizam said that as a result of the raids, 143 Bitcoin mining machines and items used for that activity, worth more than RM171,600, were seized. The police have arrested four local men, aged between 20 and 40 years old, who acted as guards of the premises, on one of the premises in Putra Perdana. He said all the men were remanded for three days starting last Saturday to assist in the investigation. He said all the suspects do not have any criminal records and his team has opened five investigation papers under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990. "If convicted, the suspects may face a penalty under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which is imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or a fine or both. "Meanwhile, under Section 37 (1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990, a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years or both may be imposed," he also said. Pet owner drags dog chained to mototcycle
SUNGAI PETANI: A pet owner is believed to have cruelly chained a dog to his motorcycle and dragged it to get rid of it, on grounds that he no longer wanted to keep the animal after four months. In the outrageous incident in Bandar Puteri Jaya near here yesterday evening, the man's inhumane act was stopped by another man who witnessed the cruelty. Additionally, a woman recorded the incident and later uploaded the footage on social media site Facebook. Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said his department had received a police report regarding the incident. 'Initial investigations found that the dog was not dead but injured, and it was sent to an animal clinic for treatment. 'We have opened an investigation under Section 428 of the Penal Code (maiming an animal) and we are also referring this case to the veterinary office,' he said in a media statement today. He added that efforts are being made to identify the suspect who will be detained to assist in the investigation for an act of cruelty to animals.
