Aden - Five children in southwestern Yemen died after an explosive device detonated in a residential area where they were playing soccer, rights groups and eye witnesses said Saturday.
The circumstances surrounding their deaths on Friday night in the Al-Hashmah subdistrict of Taiz province remain unclear. However, the Yemen Centre for Human Rights and another rights group called Eye of Humanity along with Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah TV said an artillery shell was fired by militias backed by the Islah party, which is allied to the internationally recognised government in south Yemen.
A spokesperson for the United Nations children's agency UNICEF told The Associated Press that they are aware of reports about the incident but can't verify the facts at the moment.
Two local residents who were eyewitnesses, Ahmed al-Sharee and Khaled al-Areki, told the AP that the children were playing soccer when the explosion happened.
At least three people with minor to moderate injuries were also taken to the hospital, according to the eyewitnesses. Meanwhile, Mahmoud al-Mansi, another eyewitness, said the explosive was directed from an area where forces allied with the Islah party were present.
The Yemen Centre for Human Rights condemned the incident in a report that included graphic photos of the children's torn bodies. Citing healthcare sources at Al-Rafai Hospital, where the victims arrived unresponsive, the group said they died from shrapnel injuries. Two of the children were 12 years old, while two others were 14 years old, according to the group. The age of the fifth child is unknown.

Taiz city, the capital of the province of the same name, has been a battleground, pitting the Iran-backed Houthi militias and other militias backed by the Islah party against each other and other factions in Yemen's civil war.
The city was under Houthi blockade since 2016, restricting the freedom of movement and flow of essential goods to residents, but Houthis recently opened key roads.

"Amid Accusations of Financial Guardianship" ... Houthis Seize Yemen Gulf Bank

Sana'a – Houthi Rebels has appointed senior figure Raed Al-Sha'er as judicial guardian over the Yemen Gulf Bank, one of the largest commercial banks in Houthi-controlled territories. Banking sources revealed that the newly installed administration has slashed employee salaries by more than 60%, without legal basis or judicial decision. Employees who attempted to resign were reportedly threatened and forced to remain in their positions. Sources also indicated that debt collection operations are being carried out illegally, without being recorded in the bank's official system—raising serious suspicions of money laundering and the potential use of funds to support armed group activities. In response, the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden announced its readiness to support banks relocating their operations to liberated areas in an effort to protect the national banking system from collapse.

11 Filipino Seafarers Return Home After Surviving Houthi Attack Off Yemen's Coast

Aden – The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers announced late Saturday the safe return of 11 Filipino crew members from the Magic Seas cargo ship, which was violently attacked by Houthi militants while sailing near the Yemeni coast. Undersecretary Bernard Olalia stated during a press forum in Quezon City that the sailors arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 11 PM, completing the repatriation of all 17 rescued crew members from the targeted vessel. 'These men endured a traumatic and tragic ordeal that demands immediate care,' Olalia said, adding that the Philippine government will extend psychological and social support, alongside financial assistance and medical evaluations. The announcement comes as search operations continue for 13 missing sailors from the Eternity Seas vessel, which sank entirely following a similar Houthi attack in the Red Sea. The Magic Seas incident marked one of the earliest ship assaults in a wave of escalating maritime strikes linked to the war in Gaza. Houthi Militians claims these attacks are retaliation against alleged support for Israel, though international observers have condemned the operations as "reckless and criminal," warning of serious threats to global maritime security.

Israel Pushes for International Coalition to Launch Renewed Strikes on Houthis in Yemen

Israel is reportedly intensifying its diplomatic and military outreach to form a broad international coalition—including the United States—to launch renewed strikes against the Iran-backed group in Yemen , Amid escalating attacks by Houthi militants targeting commercial shipping and Israeli infrastructure. Senior Israeli officials have sent formal communications to Washington, urging more robust joint operations and expanded military coordination, citing what they describe as a 'global maritime security threat.' Israel argues that the Houthis' continued missile and drone strikes on vessels in the Red Sea and infrastructure such as Eilat Port and Ben Gurion Airport call for collective action beyond limited air raids. Sources close to the Israeli defense establishment suggest that the proposed coalition may include regional and Western powers and could mimic past multinational efforts in Syria and Lebanon. Intelligence-sharing between Israel and the United States has reportedly increased in recent weeks, with a focus on neutralizing Houthi launch capabilities and disrupting their supply chains.
