Cardinals 7, Brewers 1: José Quintana gets smacked around by St. Louis
The Milwaukee Brewers give the ball to José Quintana looking for a third straight win over the St. Louis Cardinals during a mid-afternoon clash on June 14. Follow along for live updates from American Family Field. MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - JUNE 14: Jose Quintana #62 of the Milwaukee Brewers throws a pitch in the first inning against the St. Louis Cardinals at American Family Field on June 14, 2025 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by) Bad outing for José Quintana José Quintana hasn't been particularly sharp since coming back off the injured list, but leading into the June 14 game it hadn't burned him, with only three runs allowed over 10 innings. Advertisement It all caught up to him against the Cardinals. A three-run home run by Nolan Gorman ended Quintana's day in the top of the fifth with seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and three walks on his ledger. This year, Quintana has allowed 11 earned runs over two starts against the Cubs and Cardinals at home and seven across seven other starts. St. Louis pounded Quintana for six hard-hit balls across his 4 1/3 innings, none hit firmer than Gormans' 108.0 mph, 433-foot big fly. The veteran lefty entered the game having stranded 84.3% of runners that reached base; the Cardinals plated seven of the 12 men they put on base. Jackson Chourio makes a run happen by himself It took Jackson Chourio doing the whole thing himself, but the Brewers got on the board in the fourth. Chourio led off the frame with a triple into the right-center gap and scored two batters later on a passed ball. That wound up being the only way Chourio would have scored because William Contreras and Christian Yelich struck out, and Isaac Collins popped out to end the inning. Quintana eventually gets burned in fourth Through three innings, José Quintana had worked his way off the hook with some well-timed strikeouts and weak contact. In the fourth, there was no escape route. Advertisement Thanks in part to some shoddy defense from the Brewers, the Cardinals put up three runs to push their lead to 4-0 all the while right-hander Andre Pallante was no-hitting Milwaukee's offense. Quintana allowed a leadoff single and walked the second hitter in the fourth before getting Jordan Walker to pound a two-chopper to third base. Caleb Durbin, rather than charging the ball, waited back on the second bounce and ultimately rushed a throw to second that sailed over the glove of Brice Turang. The Cardinals then pushed their lead to four when Victor Scott II lined a two-run single to left. Cardinals strike first After slow offensive nights the first two games of the series, the Cardinals put the first tally on the board against Quintana in the first inning. Advertisement Masyn Winn led off the game with a two-strike single to center and, after Ivan Herrera followed with a walk, he scored on Alec Burleson's seeing-eye single up the middle. The Brewers defense helped quell the rally, with Jackson Chourio throwing out Herrera at third on the play, and Quintana escaped without further damage. What time is the Brewers game today? Cardinals' Willson Contreras calls out ‘f–king p—y' Brewers player after collision causes in-game spat
Willson Contreras was apparently ready to throw down. After a collision at first base on Saturday between the Cardinals infielder and Brewers third baseman Caleb Durbin in the bottom of the third inning, Milwaukee first baseman Rhys Hoskins expressed his displeasure with Contreras from the home dugout. On Durbin's groundout, Contreras took a step back with his right leg after recording the out, putting it in the path of Durbin, who collided with Contreras and then went tumbling to the ground. X/MLB on Fox Contreras chirped right back at Hoskins after the play and seemed ready for a confrontation, though the situation was diffused. However, Brewers pitcher and ex-Met Jose Quintana then plunked Contreras on the left arm in the top of the fifth. Contreras ran to pick up the ball and handed it to Quintana before jogging to first base. Each team was issued a warning after the hit by pitch. Advertisement Contreras, whose brother William is the Brewers' catcher, called out one of the Brewers players after the game, though he did not specify if this was directed at Hoskins. 'One of their players likes to talk from far away, but when he got to my face, he didn't say s–t,' Contreras told reporters after Saturday's 8-5 Cardinals win. 'I was looking for more than that. He seems to be tough, but he's a f—ing p—y. I'm not going to name names. He knows who he is.' Asked later about Hoskins, Contreras said, 'He didn't say nothing to me. I was expecting for him to say something, but he was looking away already. Look at my face — just say it to my face, whatever you say from the dugout. He was looking away and said, 'Get off the base.' I said, 'Push me,' and he didn't. So, it was good.' 'I wasn't trying to get him hurt,' Contreras said. 'I mean, he was running inside the line. I stayed there. I have all the right to stand on the bag. I don't think that's anyone's fault.'

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott wants Super Bowl championship: Legacy 'be damned'
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott wants Super Bowl championship: Legacy 'be damned' Show Caption Hide Caption Cowboys land star wideout George Pickens The Pittsburgh Steelers traded star wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2026 third-round pick. Sports Seriously Dak Prescott has already cemented himself as one of the top quarterbacks in Dallas Cowboys history. The numbers don't lie. He's on pace to surpass Tony Romo for some of the Cowboys franchise passing records. Prescott is 2,746 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns shy of claiming the statistical passing records for "America's Team." However, similar to Romo, playoff success has eluded the 31-year-old thus far in his nine NFL seasons. He's failed to lead Dallas beyond the divisional round in the postseason, as the Cowboys' Super Bowl drought reaches its 30th season in the 2024 season. Prescott hopes to change that in his tenth year. "I wanna win a championship," Prescott said via the Cowboys website. "The legacy and the things, and whatever comes after I finish playing, will take care of itself. I wanna win a championship. Be damned if it's just for my legacy, for this team, for my personal being, for my sanity – the legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are." Like his predecessor, Prescott gets ridiculed for his lack of postseason success. Dallas has just four playoff wins since 1996, and Prescott owns a 2-5 playoff record. Prescott's regular-season winning percentage is 62.2%, which puts him ahead of Troy Aikman (56.9%) and Romo (61.4%). However, a quarterback's legacy is often formed in the playoffs. He signed a massive contract extension with Dallas before the 2024 season, tying him to the team through 2028. You can all but guarantee he will have his name next to the all-time passing records in Cowboys history by then, but he hopes to end a decades-long championship drought before he's done. Prescott played just eight games in 2024 after being placed on injured reserve with a season-ending hamstring injury that required surgery. In his last healthy season in 2023, he led the NFL in passing touchdowns (36) and threw just nine interceptions, finishing as the MVP runner-up to Lamar Jackson. This offseason, Dallas traded for wide receiver George Pickens, shoring up the room alongside All-Pro CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys hope the new addition will yield a return from Prescott like his 2023 output, and he's excited about the offseason moves so far. "It starts with personnel," said Prescott. "The changes we've made and not just on offense, but on defense as well – bringing in people, obviously, George really opens up things for all those other receivers. I think it just gives them a safety net to go earn, and to play free, and to go make a huge jump. Guys like Mingo and Tolbert, and the way the backs have approached this thing, I'm super excited." Prescott will be 32 entering the 2025 season and will attempt to cement his legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks if he can bring a Lombardi Trophy back to Dallas before he decides to hang it up. Prescott and the Cowboys will kick off the start of the 2025 NFL regular season against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 4.
