TotalEnergies inks 20-year, 2 Mtpa LNG deal from Ksi Lisims

Trade Arabia20-05-2025

TotalEnergies has signed a Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Ksi Lisims LNG for the purchase of 2 Mtpa of LNG for 20 years from the future liquefaction plant, subject to the final investment decision of the project.
In parallel, TotalEnergies acquires a 5% stake in Western LNG, the developer, shareholder, and future operator of the Ksi Lisims LNG project. This acquisition grants TotalEnergies the option to increase its stake in Western LNG and/or take a direct stake in the plant up to approximately 10% when the final investment decision is made.
The Ksi Lisims LNG project, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant with a capacity of 12 million tons per year (Mtpa), is located on the Pacific coast of Canada (British Columbia), giving it privileged access to Asia, the largest LNG market. Fully electrified and powered by hydroelectricity, Ksi Lisims LNG will be one of the lowest CO2-emitting LNG projects in the world.
"This purchase of LNG from the future Ksi Lisims LNG plant will allow us to diversify our LNG portfolio in North America and benefit from competitive LNG supply in Western Canada to better serve our Asian customers, with whom we are developing a significant portfolio of long-term supply contracts", said Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies. "As part of our integrated strategy, we are also pleased to partner with Western LNG to support the development of this very low CO2 emission liquefaction plant project'. -TradeArabia News Service

IEA launches new global LNG capacity tracker

After a period of crisis, tight supply conditions and heightened price volatility, the global natural gas market is expected to transition to a period of abundant supply in the coming years - largely due to an increase in global capacity to produce and export liquefied natural gas (LNG). Against this backdrop, the International Energy Agency (IEA) launched a new online resource that will make key LNG data publicly available, providing detailed information on a rapidly evolving market for the first time. The IEA's new Global LNG Capacity Tracker, out today, monitors final investment decisions for new LNG export projects and provides data on liquefaction capacity additions through 2030, based on projects that are currently under construction and the latest ramp-up schedules. It will be updated regularly. The world currently has about 670 billion cubic metres (bcm) per year of LNG liquefaction capacity. Slower-than-average capacity growth in recent years has led to higher prices amid robust demand. But capacity is set to rise strongly through the end of the decade, with significant implications for global gas markets. Between 2025 and 2030, a total of nearly 290 bcm per year of new LNG export capacity is expected to come online from projects that have already reached a final investment decision and are under construction, according to the Tracker. The pace and scale of this expansion of supply capacity remains uncertain and may shift over time. Given this, the Tracker will aim to reflect the latest developments, providing timely insights for governments, industry and other stakeholders. The IEA closely monitors developments in natural gas markets, which play a central role in global energy security today.

Honeylicious brings exclusive Canadian wild honey to Bahraini tables

A new venture, Honeylicious, is set to tantalise Bahraini tastebuds with the launch of a unique product: pure raw honey directly from the pristine mountains of British Columbia, Canada. The company claims this is the first time such an exclusive honey has been imported into the Kingdom. Honeylicious is the brainchild of Bahraini entrepreneur Ramzi Ebrahim Mohamed Rafeea and his Canadian partner, Mirza Imran Tassadaq, who boasts strong connections to British Columbia. Their collaboration aims to introduce a flavour profile currently available in the local market. 'We're absolutely chuffed to bring this truly special honey to Bahrain,' said Rafeea. 'It's a taste of the Canadian wilderness, bottled right here for our customers.' The honey is sourced from the untouched forests of British Columbia, where bees forage on wildflowers and plants, resulting in a rich, distinct flavour that captures the essence of nature at its purest. 'Our commitment is to quality, and this honey really delivers on that front,' added Tassadaq. 'We're excited for people to experience the difference. It's raw, natural, and free from any nasties.' While the honey originates from Canada, Honeylicious is dedicated to supporting local operations. All bottling and packaging are handled in Bahrain, ensuring the product is as fresh as possible when it reaches customers. The honey is available in various bottle sizes, catering to both individual and family needs. Beyond their signature British Columbia honey, Honeylicious also offers a carefully chosen selection of honey varieties from different regions worldwide, each picked for its unique flavour and high quality. Whether customers prefer the sweet, delicate notes of wildflower honey or the rich, deep flavours of forest honey, the collection aims to bring nature's best offerings to Bahraini tables. The raw honey is free from additives, preservatives, and artificial ingredients, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a wholesome, natural product. It's perfect for enhancing dishes, enjoying on its own, or using as a healthy sweetener in recipes.

Nakilat celebrates steel cutting of 17 new LNG carriers

Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat), a global leader in LNG shipping and maritime transportation, celebrated a significant milestone with the steel cutting ceremony marking the commencement of construction of 17 LNG vessels at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The vessels are part of QatarEnergy's historic LNG fleet expansion project, which caters for future LNG fleet requirements for its LNG expansion projects, as well as the replacement requirements of some of its existing fleet. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from Nakilat, Hyundai Heavy Industries, along with key stakeholders from the maritime sector, who witnessed the official commencement construction of the advanced vessels. Owned by Nakilat, and built with a capacity of 174,000 cubic metres, the new vessels will be chartered to QatarEnergy affiliates under long-term agreements. Abdullah Al-Sulaiti, Chief Executive Officer of Nakilat, commented: "This is another pivotal milestone in Nakilat's journey towards achieving our long-term growth strategy as we continue to modernize and expand our fleet. Our collaboration with QatarEnergy and Hyundai Heavy Industries reflects our continued commitment in support of Qatar's vision in LNG shipping through a world-class fleet and new benchmarks in efficiency, safety, and environmental performance and sustainability. Nakilat remains committed to boosting its position as leader in the global LNG shipping industry." In February 2024, Qatar Gas Transport Company 'Nakilat' signed agreements with QatarEnergy to lease and operate 25 conventional size state-of-the-art LNG vessels. This move further strengthens Nakilat's position as a global leader in LNG shipping, with the vessels being constructed at South Korean shipyards. The new carriers feature advanced designs and innovative technologies, reflecting Nakilat's commitment to applying the highest standards of safety and operational excellence, while also promoting greater environmental sustainability. This achievement marks a pivotal step in enhancing the company's capacity to meet the growing demand for LNG transportation and further solidifying its leading position in the industry. –
