UK PM Starmer will hold emergency cabinet to discuss Gaza peace plan
Starmer has taken the rare step of recalling his cabinet during the summer holidays to discuss how to deliver more humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Scotland on Monday, Starmer discussed the need for a ceasefire in Gaza and what he called the 'revolting' humanitarian crisis.
Britain is working on the plan with France and Germany after a call between the leaders of the three countries last week.
Starmer has not shared details of the plan, but over the weekend he compared the proposals to the 'coalition of the willing', the international effort to support Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire in its war with Russia.
Starmer's spokesman said he would discuss the plan with other international allies and countries in the Middle East.
War has raged in Gaza between Israel and Palestinian militants Hamas for the past 22 months. Israel has been facing growing international criticism, which its government rejects, over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
With warnings people in Gaza are facing starvation, growing numbers of lawmakers in Starmer's Labor Party want him to recognize a Palestinian state to put pressure on Israel.
British foreign minister David Lammy will attend a United Nations conference in New York on Tuesday to urge support for a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
Successive British governments have said they will formally recognize a Palestinian state when the time is right, without ever setting a timetable or specifying the necessary conditions.
The issue has come to the fore after President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday France would recognize Palestine as a state.
Starmer has so far rejected plans to immediately recognize a Palestinian state, saying he was focused on 'practical solutions.'
Last week, more than 200 British members of parliament from nine parties signed a letter Friday calling for an immediate recognition of a Palestinian state.

Arab ministerial committee holds Israel fully responsible for ongoing genocide in Gaza
CAIRO: The Arab ministerial committee on Gaza said on Saturday that it holds Israel fully responsible for the genocidal crimes against Palestinian civillians in the Gaza Strip. 'We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the ongoing genocide and the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe taking place in the Gaza Strip,' read a statement issued by ministers of the Joint Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit on developments in Gaza. The committee called upon the international community — particularly the permanent members of the Security Council — to take urgent action to stop Israel's illegal aggressive policies. The committee also urged for the 'immediate and comprehensive cessation of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, and an end to the ongoing violations committed by the occupying forces against civilians and civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.' The committee also demanded unconditional access to Gaza. 'The demand that Israel, as the occupying power, immediately and unconditionally allow the entry of humanitarian assistance at scale into the Gaza Strip — including food, medicine, and fuel — and ensure the freedom of operation of relief agencies and international humanitarian organizations, in accordance with international humanitarian law and its applicable principles,' It also emphasized 'the need to work on the immediate start of the implementation of the Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, and calls for active participation in the Gaza Reconstruction Conference to be held in Cairo soon.'

Kneecap voices support for Palestine during Oslo performance
DUBAI: Irish rap group Kneecap continued to voice their stance on the war in Gaza during their performance in Oslo, Norway, on Friday. Just before the trio— Mo Chara, Moglai Bap and DJ Provai — took the stage, a message in white text on a black background appeared on a video screen, accusing the Norwegian government of 'enabling' the 'genocide' against Palestinians through investments in the country's sovereign wealth fund, referring to it as the 'oil pension fund.' 'Over 80,000 people have been murdered by Israel in 21 months,' the band's message continued, 'Free Palestine.' The message was received with cheers from the audience. A post shared by Clang (@clangmag) Kneecap has supported the Palestinian cause throughout the war in Gaza. The band has been the center of controversy in Britain since last year, when the previous government sought to block an arts grant for the band, citing its anti-British politics. That decision was overturned after the Labour Party won last year's parliamentary election and Prime Minister Keir Starmer took office. Last month, the group was banned from entering Hungary for three years over accusations of antisemitism. They were due to perform at the Sziget Festival on Aug. 11. Kneecap said in a statement that their ban was a 'further attempt to silence those who call out genocide against the Palestinian people.' At Glastonbury Festival this year, Chara accused Israel of committing war crimes against the Palestinians. More than 150 Hungarian artists and musicians signed a petition against Kneecap playing at Sziget. But festival organizers said that the government's ban was 'both unnecessary and regrettable,' adding the group had 'reassured us that their performance would not contravene either Sziget's values or Hungarian law.'
