‘Honeytrapped' Thane man arrested for sharing sensitive information with Pakistan: Report
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a Thane-based man for providing sensitive information to a Pakistani intelligence agent, who honey-trapped him on social media, PTI reported on Thursday, citing officials.
The man has been identified as 27-year-old Ravindra Murlidhar Verma, a resident of Kalwa in neighbouring Thane city.
According to officials, Verma works as a junior engineer with a firm involved in defence technology.
"Verma was working as a junior engineer with a firm involved in defence technology. As an employee of the company, he had access to enter the Naval Dockyard in south Mumbai and he used to work at the naval ships," an unidentified official was quoted as saying.
The official added that Verma was honey-trapped by a Pakistani agent who posed as a woman and befriended him on Facebook.

He was found to have shared sensitive information about a vital installation with the 'Pakistan Intelligence Operative' (PIO) through WhatsApp from November 2024 to March 2025, the official added.
Verma was arrested by the Thane unit of the ATs based on a tip off. After interrogation, he was placed under arrest for his alleged involvement in the crime.
The 27-year-old has been charged under section 3 of the Official Secrets Act that deals with espionage, and section 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to PTI, he was produced before a court, which sent him to the ATS custody till Monday.

The ATS is also examining his mobile phones and gadgets used in sharing vital information through the social media platform with the Pakistani agent.
Earlier, a 20-year-old college dropout was arrested in Kangra on suspicion of spying after sensitive and objectionable content was found on his mobile phone.
This was the first such arrest in Himachal Pradesh as part of a larger crackdown on espionage networks after Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 in response to an April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. Since then, at least seven suspects have been arrested in Punjab and Haryana for alleged spying activities for Pakistan.

This fake cardiologist performed 50-plus heart surgeries at Faridabad hospital in 7 months
Faridabad: An MBBS doctor masquerading as a cardiologist performed more than 50 heart procedures over seven months before his fraudulent practice was discovered. Though a qualified doctor, Pankaj Mohan Sharma put countless lives at risk at a heartcare centre in Badshah Khan civil hospital because he was not authorised to perform critical cardiac surgeries. Dr Sharma came under cops' scanner when Sanjay Gupta — a lawyer and social activist — lodged a complaint at NIT Faridabad police station on April 11, quoting sources to allege he bagged additional degrees based on forged documents. Preliminary probe revealed that the accused had been operating under a stolen identity, misappropriating national medical commission's registration number assigned to Dr Pankaj Mohan, a legitimate cardiologist practising in the city. Police said Dr Sharma was hired in July last year by Mediterina Hospital, which runs the heartcare centre at Badshah Khan on a public-private partnership mode. "The hospital management continued to employ an unqualified and fraudulent doctor who lacks any degree or recognised specialisation in cardiology. Dr Sharma falsely claimed qualifications of MD and DNB (cardiology), which are entirely fraudulent," said lawyer Gupta. After coming to know about the fraud, Dr Mohan lodged a complaint with IMA in Jan this year, alleging illegal use of his credentials by the other doctor. He also slapped a legal notice on Dr Sharma. What raised eyebrows was that Dr Sharma suddenly stopped attending the centre in Feb after being asked to produce his medical degree. "Many patients began enquiring about him and eventually visited the real Dr Pankaj Mohan. When Dr Mohan clarified that he had never worked at the heart centre, the allegations strengthened," said a doctor at Badshah Khan. Adding another layer to the deception, Dr Sharma maintained a Facebook profile under the name 'Kshitiz Mohan' and was listed as the director of a film production firm, raising more questions on his medical credentials. Dr M Pratap Kumar, CMD of Mediterina Hospital who also heads the heart centre at Badshah Khan, confirmed that Dr Sharma had been removed. "He applied through formal HR channels as a general physician. We always had suspicion about his DM (cardiology) degree and acted on it," he said. "We have sought details related to the doctor from the CMO. We want to know how he was recruited as he served in the civil hospital for months. We are, however, yet to get any record. Only after we have all the details, we will initiate legal action," said Yashpal, a spokesperson for police. Lawyer bail plea rejected in 2.6cr cheating case
Mumbai: Observing that if this court exercises discretion in favour of applicant it will give a wrong message to society, a sessions court on Monday rejected the bail plea of advocate Vinaykumar Khatu, who is accused of defrauding a Delhi-based 74-year-old woman, a client, of Rs 2.57 crore by allegedly presenting her with forged orders purportedly issued by Bombay high court. "This court cannot ignore the antecedent of applicant. Admittedly, two offences were registered against applicant for misrepresenting himself as an IAS officer. If this court exercises discretion in favour of applicant, it will give a wrong message to society. The seriousness of allegations and antecedent of applicant prevent me from exercising discretion in favour of applicant," sessions judge VG Raghuwanshi said. The judge also said that if one decides to rely on WhatsApp chat then he cannot ignore that accused had stated about stay granted by honourable high court in his chat with the accountant and it is also clear that huge amounts were transferred to the accounts of his friends, associates and him after the date of fabricated orders. The accused was a lawyer of the woman, Urmila Talyarkhan, who was involved in a property dispute relating to a land in Alibaug. After a lower court ruled against her, Talyarkhan appealed the decision to the district court. Her advocate failed to appear for the hearing, leading to the dismissal of the appeal on Mar 13, 2018. Residing in Delhi at the time, she remained unaware of this dismissal until 2022, as her advocate did not inform her. It was alleged that through a business acquaintance, Talyarkhan was introduced to Khatu. She retained Khatu for six matters, including the land dispute appeal, and a suit against her husband. Khatu allegedly charged an exorbitant fee of Rs 10 lakh per case. She allegedly transferred Rs 2 crore from her friend's account to those associated with the accused. Following Khatu's advice, she filed a second appeal in Bombay high court, with applications for condonation of a four-year delay and a stay order. Denying the allegations, the accused said that he was arrested on Oct 19, 2024. "Nothing needs to be seized from him. There is no possibility of tampering evidence," the lawyer submitted.
