Police investigate shots fired reports in Turners Falls

TURNERS FALLS, Mass. (WWLP) – The Montague Police Department is investigating multiple shots fired reports on Third Street early Monday morning.
Two arrested in Holyoke traffic stop connected to shots fired incident
Police stated in a press release that the department received reports of shots fired at approximately 2:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Monday. Both incidents were reported to occur int the area of Third Street. Investigation has determined that no one was hit or injured during these incidents.
The shots fired reports are believed to be related, according to Montague Police. The department urges anyone with information related to these incidents to contact Detective Sergeant Joshua Hoffman at 413-863-8911.

Emergency services were called to Great Ancoats Street at around 7am on Monday (June 30) following reports the body of a woman had been found. An area around the Leonardo Hotel and Victoria House apartments has been cordoned off, with a police block in place around a small space. GMP said it appears the woman had fallen from a building, but an investigation had been launched. PERTH AMBOY - Four city police officers have been promoted while 11 others have been sworn in as officers, special police and auxiliary officers. The achievements were celebrated by city officials, family and community members during a recent ceremony in the auditorium of the Raritan Bay Area YMCA during which Police Chief Larry Cattano spoke about the promoted officers' merits and Mayor Helmin Caba administered the oath of office. 'I am pleased to celebrate the accomplishments of all the brave officers promoted at our ceremony and welcome all the new officers to the department,' Caba said. 'All these men and women exemplify what it means to be dedicated to the community and serve honorably. Congratulations to all of them, and I know they'll make our city proud.' Newly-promoted Capt. Mabner Terron is a Perth Amboy High School graduate and veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard basic training program who has received multiple honors, including the 2019 Perth Amboy Police Supervisor of the Year Award. He has led numerous major narcotics and criminal investigations. Lt. Brandon Bucior received the 'Top Gun' award for most driving while intoxicated arrests and served as PBA Local 13 president from 2013 to 2016. Sgt. Benjamin Batista is a graduate of Perth Amboy Public Schools and received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Kean University after attending Middlesex College. He received the merit award from the Cape May County Police Academy in January 2017 and was honored as Police Officer of the Year in 2018. Sgt. Thomas Fazio received an associate degree in criminal justice from Middlesex College and was named Officer of the Year in 2023. Officer Gabriel Morales is a 2008 graduate of Perth Amboy High School who has a black belt in Tang Soo Do through his father's karate program. Officer Kevin Marte is a graduate of New Brunswick Health Sciences and Technology High School and is a father to two daughters. Officer Matthew Lopez attended Perth Amboy Public Schools and Bishop George Ahr High School in Edison and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Officer Azad Jhaj previously served with the New Jersey Department of Corrections as a correctional officer and holds the rank of captain at Iselin Volunteer Fire Company No. 1. Perth Amboy has four new special police officers, Jaden Cruz and Janely N. Perez-Grullon, who are both studying criminal justice at Middlesex College; Lisette Tellez-Velazquez, the first woman in her family to pursue a career in law enforcement; and Erik Efsen who formerly served as a Perth Amboy auxiliary police officer. The two new auxiliary officers are Joshua Mota, who is CPR certified, and Jury Jose Breton Crus, who has served as an EMT and Red Cross operations supervisor. Man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman, 93, found dead

A man, 65, has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 93-year-old woman was found dead in a Cornish town. Devon and Cornwall Police received a concern for welfare report at an address on Cherrill Gardens, Bude, at about 1pm on Sunday. Officers and paramedics attended and the force said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives believe the man arrested and the woman were known to each other. He is from the Bude area and remains in custody, police added. Detective Inspector Rob Smith, senior investigating officer, said: 'We are currently carrying out inquiries to establish what happened in this very sad case. 'A cordon has been set up to allow for a thorough investigation of the scene to take place. 'It is believed that the man and the woman were known to each other. 'The community should be reassured that this is being treated as an isolated incident and at this time we are not seeking anyone else in connection to the death. 'There will be a heightened police presence in the area over the coming days as inquiries are ongoing, and I would encourage anyone, if you have any concerns, to contact officers from the local neighbourhood policing team.' The woman's next of kin have been informed. Witnesses have been asked to contact the police on 101 quoting reference number 50250165800.
