Middle East28-06-2025
CAIRO, June 28 (MENA) - Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy and Labour Minister Mohamed Gebran on Saturday directed the bodies concerned to swiftly process increased compensation payouts for victims of the Menofia road accident.
The new compensation will provide EGP 500,000 to each family of the deceased and EGP 70,000 for each injured person, in line with directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to add EGP 100,000 per fatality and EGP 25,000 per injury to amounts previously allocated by the ministries.
The accident occurred on Friday on the regional highway in Ashmoun, when a microbus collided with a heavy truck, claiming the lives of 18 young women and the driver and injuring three others. All victims were from Kafr al-Sanabsa village in Menouf, travelling for day-labour work. (MENA)

Grand imam inspects relief convoy dispatched by Zakat, Charity House to Gaza

CAIRO, Aug 4 (MENA) – Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayyeb on Monday checked on preparations for dispatching a relief convey by the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House, 'Bait El Zakat', to the Gaza Strip before its departure to the borders in the early hours of Tuesday. Tayyeb, in a statement issued on Monday, said that the convoy reflects solidarity of the Egyptian people with the Palestinians, who have been suffering from a dire humanitarian crisis for nearly two years due to ongoing Israeli aggression and restrictions imposed on the delivery of basic needs. He reaffirmed Al Azhar's unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their just cause. The relief convoy includes over 1,000 fully equipped tents, thousands of tons of food supplies, clean drinking water, medical and daily living essentials, in addition to infant formula, medicines and healthcare supplies, according to the Zakat and Charity House. This convoy is part of the relief bridge launched by the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House under the auspices of the grand imam Tayyeb. The campaign has received support from charitable and humanitarian organizations across more than 85 countries. Established in 2014, the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House is one of Egypt's leading charitable organizations that enjoys financial and administrative independence to collect charity money from Muslims and disburse them in a legally prescribed manner, with a view to spreading the spirit of solidarity and compassion within society. Egypt pressing to open crossings, provides 70 percent of Gaza aid despite Israeli obstacles

CAIRO, Aug 3 (MENA) – Egypt plays a vital, exceptional, and consistent role in supporting the Palestinian cause, based on its historical responsibility, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said on Sunday. In an interview with Extra News on the sidelines of the 6th edition of the Egyptians Abroad Conference, Abdelatty described the humanitarian situation in the war-devastated Gaza Strip as 'catastrophic by all standards,' adding that the international community should be ashamed of this reality. He held the occupying power fully responsible under international law and the Geneva Conventions for the deteriorating situation, noting that while there are five crossings linking Israel to Gaza, all remain closed. Meanwhile, Egypt has kept the Rafah crossing open 24/7 from its side, although the Palestinian side of the crossing remains closed due to Israeli restrictions, and aid trucks are often targeted. The minister emphasized that Egypt is exerting maximum pressure on the Israeli side through its contacts with the United States to open the crossings and allow aid delivery. He added that Egypt is also working tirelessly to provide assistance, whether by land, with around 120 trucks delivered so far, or by participating in joint airdrops with Western countries and Jordan. The top diplomat stressed, however, that airdrops cannot substitute for access through land crossings, which remain closed by Israeli authorities. Abdelatty said that 70 percent of the humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza since October 7, 2023, has been provided by Egypt. He criticized misleading campaigns that downplay Egypt's efforts, saying such narratives only serve Israel's objective of easing international pressure. On ceasefire negotiations, the minister confirmed that talks are ongoing, and Egypt is intensifying its efforts to reach a deal. However, the main obstacle remains the absence of genuine political will from the Israeli side to agree on a comprehensive deal that would include the release of hostages and Palestinian detainees, along with the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid. He expressed hope that these efforts would soon bear fruit, allowing for the announcement of a date for the international Gaza reconstruction and early recovery conference. Abdelatty noted that many countries and international organizations have expressed their desire for Egypt to co-sponsor the conference. (MENA)

Egypt Officially Raises Public Sector Minimum Wages

Taarek Refaat Egypt's Official Gazette has published Decree, signed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, introducing amendments to the public sector minimum wage framework effective July 1, 2025. The decree updates key provisions of the 2019 wage legislation to reflect new wage thresholds for government employees and workers at public economic authorities. The move comes amid broader economic reforms and cost-of-living concerns, with the government seeking to bolster real incomes across all employment grades in the public sector. New Minimum Monthly Wage: Exceptional 13,500 High 11,250 General Manager 10,250 First Grade 8,500 Second Grade 8,000 Third Grade 7,750 Fourth Grade 7,000 Fifth Grade 7,250 Sixth Grade 7,000 The decree also introduces an updated mechanism for a "complementary wage incentive", ensuring that any employee whose total income falls below the minimum wage threshold for their grade will receive a top-up. The calculation will exclude certain special allowances such as remote-area bonuses, risk allowances, or non-cash benefits, while regular bonuses and collective financial advantages will be averaged into the monthly wage for assessment. This incentive system aims to harmonize wage fairness across ministries and public entities while maintaining eligibility conditions aligned with the Civil Service Law and other relevant public finance legislation. The amendments were adopted following Cabinet approval and a comprehensive legal review, as referenced in the decree's legal preamble, which cites Egypt's Unified Public Finance Law and recent Law, which governs public sector bonuses and incentives. The Egyptian government has incrementally raised the minimum wage in recent years as inflationary pressures and currency fluctuations have affected purchasing power. The current adjustment follows multiple prior increases, with the most recent benchmark set in 2024 at EGP 10,000 for many categories. As of July 20, 2025, more than 3.5 million public sector employees are expected to benefit from the new wage structure, including those in administrative bodies, service agencies, and economic authorities. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
