Families enjoy a fantastic day at annual children's gala day in Armadale

Daily Record23-06-2025
Generations have taken part in fantastic events since 1900
Thousands of residents lined the streets to enjoy the annual Armadale Children's Gala Day on Saturday.
The gala day first took place 125 years ago and is always a very special day in the town's calendar each year.

Generation after generation have taken part in fantastic days over the decades since 1900 and this year didn't disappoint, with the good weather ensuring there was no chance of a washout.

Hundreds of young people from the town took part in the procession at the event that is traditionally held on the third Saturday of June.
Over 30 streets had houses decorated in different themes especially for the gala day. First place winners were situated in Dalyell Place, Drove Road, Shaw Avenue, and Southdale Avenue.
A civic week precedes the gala with events including, a sports night, a quiz night, Party in the Park, a cabaret for over-50s, and the night before the big day is the highly anticipated Proclamation of Queen-elect.
And at Saturday's parade there were special cheers for this year's Queen of Hearts, Molly, as she made her way through the streets.

The gala committee thanked the local community via Facebook: "Big thanks again to everyone who helped and supported us, we have a truly amazing community.
"Bathgate & Blackridge Committee for judging our houses, fancy dress and lorries. We are always happy to return the favour.
"All the businesses and individuals who donated water - this was a really kind gesture and we were blown away with how kind our community is."

Sadly, the committee is now faced a bill that could amount to around £2,500 after a marquee erected was targeted by vandals, it was daubed in graffiti and sustained fire damage. This could result in the marquee not being there next year. Portable toilets were also left damaged.

Molly-Mae Hague sparks outrage among fans after jetting off on tenth holiday this year

Former Love Island star and influencer Molly-Mae Hague enjoyed a luxury holiday in Turkey with Tommy Fury and daughter Bambi but fans have been left unimpressed Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury have just returned back to the UK after soaking up the sun in Turkey on their latest family holiday. ‌ The former Love Island stars have both shared wholesome snaps of their getaway with baby Bambi. However, some of Molly-Mae's followers have been left baffled by her recent confession that she's had a 'boring' summer and rushed to remind her of her confession in the comment section. ‌ Fresh from spending some time in St. Tropez, Molly-Mae, 26, enjoyed the delights of the Turkish resort city of Antalya with her beau and the couples two-year-old daughter after admitting that she had never been to Turkey before. ‌ The mum-of-one and her partner Tommy, 26, stayed at a £2,000 a night hotel, which "has been carefully curated to deliver a true family holiday without compromise" and boasts 553 spacious suites and private villas. Regnum Aquatlantis is a favourite with many celebrities as Stacey Solomon calls it her "second home". Meanwhile, the likes of Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Jason Derulo and Sir Tom Jones have also checked into the hotel group's other sites across the world. ‌ The vacation is a welcome break for Molly-Mae, who recently bemoaned her lack of a social life. "I will get to the end of summer without having done one fun thing," the reality TV star moaned while talking to her sister Zoe in July. "Zoe, I haven't socialised once. I am going to get to the end of this summer, I haven't done one social fun thing. I haven't a life. I haven't a life. It's not good. "It's all kids-related, if it's not work and kids I am not doing anything. It's not good. People going for a drink with their friends or to a beer garden." ‌ She added: "Oh my gosh, I don't remember the last time I did my hair and makeup and put an outfit on for something that wasn't work related. I don't do anything. Lets normalise it. For the girls that are going to get to the end of summer and not done one fun thing." After sharing a number of wholesome family photos with Tommy and Bambi, several of Molly-Mae's followers flocked to the comment section to remind her of her 'tone deaf' complaint. ‌ They hit out at the influencer given that she has already been on over ten big holidays this year as well as a couple of luxury getaways in the UK. Underneath her latest Instagram offering, one user wrote: "Molly doing not one fun thing …again." Another added: "Still don't think you've done anything fun yet Molly?" "She's been on holiday 3 or 4 times in like two months and said she has done nothing fun all summer. Make it make sense," someone else complained. ‌ "Oh is this the boring summer where you've done nothing?? lol," another follower commented under the post. Another unimpressed Instagram user echoed: "God she's so out of touch. Flying off to Turkey on a whim and then says she's done nothing all summer." ‌ The criticism from fans came because Molly-Mae had been updating her followers on her busy summer where she attended Wimbledon, went on a family motorhome holiday in the Isle of Man. The former Love Island star has been on at least ten holidays this year already after two trips to Dubai, Budapest, Paris, St. Moritz, and Disneyland Paris, as well as her most recent trip to Turkey. Molly-Mae also took a very luxurious trip to Saint Tropez last month.

I don't even want to think about that... ‌ "I'd do my f***ing best [to stop her]! I don't know. I don't know! I'll support her through anything." And on the idea of her boxing, he said: "No. She's too pretty to be a boxer. I'm going to take the black eyes and the broken ribs and the broken hands, so she doesn't have to." Tommy and Molly-Mae split in August 2024 but later reunited and he's keen to have a large family. ‌ He said: "I'd love to give Bambi a sibling." Asked how many kids he wants, he said: "Forty. "Me and Molly have had private conversations. I don't think she's quite on track for 40... ‌ "Obviously, I'm not the one giving birth. But all I ever wanted to do from when I was a young boy, I just wanted to have a family and do my boxing and look after them. My family is everything. I don't care what happens in my life. I don't care if boxing goes. Because if it were to happen again, I've got my family." Tommy admitted it was love at first sight for him when Molly-Mae entered the Love Island villa as a bombshell. He said: "As soon as I saw her, it was game over. She's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my life. Inside and out. She is the best thing that's ever happened to me. Tommy only signed up for the show because he wanted a free holiday. He admitted of his motivation: "My fight had got cancelled. I could do with a holiday. I haven't got money to go. Don't forget - I'm not Bill Gates's son. I don't come from millions of pounds."

Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 2 Lewis Capaldi took time out for health reasons 2 He's back on good form The comeback star revealed that he has also avoided drama with all his ex girlfriends over the songs he writes about their failed romances. Lewis admitted that Paige Turley and he remain cool even though he is understood to have penned hits like Someone You Loved about their failed teenage romance in Bathgate. The 28-year-old also boasted that he has scrapped a documentary about his comeback after his two year hiatus for mental health woes. Lewis, speaking in the USA, insisted that online chat of him and Ed Sheeran being foes is utterly wrong - but instead they love larking around with jokes about their issues. Lewis made headlines when he blamed his Suffock pal for his advice on buying a farm only for it to prove to be vast amounts of work. Lewis confirmed his new release will be falsetto. Joking about marijuana use, he added: "I sing very high. "I am never high when I sing, I save that for recreation purposes. But very very high pitched." He joked that he "has to squeeze my stones" to hit the high notes. Something In The Heavens is planned for release on August 14. Lewis refused to discuss the subject of the release, but says that his ex lovers have left him in peace over his love life confessions. He said: "No one's reached out. I recently bumped into my ex . It was very lovely - nice and cordial and sweet. She's a lovely girl. She's doing really well. "I am trying to think of who rest of them, they don't want anything to do with me. "No contact whatsoever and nor do I want anything to do with me. " Lewis Capaldi opens up about Paige Turley split with rant on live radio about Love Island and her UK fame Lewis admitted that fans will have to wait some time before seeing the true depth of his personal woes which led to a two year hiatus. He filmed a proposed secondary doc about his plight, but admits there are issues. He said: "We tried to get a second one on the go, and then it fell through for some reasons, unbeknownst to me. "We were going to do a second one and we filmed it. It's all done, but yeah, it stalled slightly. "I don't want people to be like, oh, here comes the documentary guide. I don't want it to be like my thing where every time I come out I have to cover a day that's really either sad or triumphant or something. "I put a lot of work in, but for me I'm glad that we put the music out first and let the music speak way or two for everything, and then maybe down the line, if we can work something out, it might come out." Speaking to Z100 in New York, Lewis opened up on his friendship with Ed Sheeran. Lewis once made comments about the pair jamming in various studios worldwide, but fired off negative comments prompting a rivalry. "We squashed the beef. I went around to his recently and he's got a sauna and we swam in his little lake and then we watched a TV show together. Been in the bar. It's great. We had a Lovely, lovely, lovely old time. "Me and me and Mr. Sheeran. So yeah, beef squashed for now. I'm sure he'll do something else to piss me " Capaldi was teased by his songwriters and bandmates that the work was not good enough. Capaldi noted that his time away from the stage was tough. He said: "I missed it for sure. I didn't think I would realize how much I would miss it. I took two years off and then when we came back and did some warmup shows. "The first show up, I cried because I was so overwhelmed by how much it was just such a beautiful moment and yeah, I've missed it so much. So I'm dying to get back. "We're straight to rehearsals for our tours and all that stuff, so it's full on. We're back and it feels really good. The music is so secondary."
