Northwest Indiana casinos report decrease in casino revenues in July

Chicago Tribune16 hours ago
Northwest Indiana's three casinos reported revenues of $69 million in July, a decrease of about 4.3% from the approximately $72.1 million reported for the same month last year, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission's monthly gaming report.
Hard Rock Northern Indiana saw a slight decrease in earnings with about $37.3 million reported for July 2025 compared to $37.6 million reported in July 2024, according to the report.
Matt Schuffert, president of Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana, said July was a stronger month compared to June, but 'flat' compared to July 2024.
'The entire Northwest Indiana market was down, for us to stay relatively flat to prior year was a good thing for us. As we're starting to finish out summer and head into fall, our entertainment calendar really starts to get a little more packed,' Schuffert said.
The Fourth of July was on a Friday this year, which helped increase revenues, Schuffert said. July marked the 45th month in a row Hard Rock remained the state's leader for gaming revenue, he said.
'Definitely a good, strong month for Hard Rock Northern Indiana in July,' Schuffert said.
Horseshoe Hammond and Ameristar Casino in East Chicago also reported decreases in revenue year over year in July.
Horseshoe Hammond reported approximately $19 million in revenues in July 2025 and $20 million in revenues in July 2024. Ameristar Casino reported $12.7 million in revenues in July 2025 and $14.5 million in revenues in July 2024, according to the report.
Hard Rock reported an increase in revenue from June to July, while Horseshoe Hammond and Ameristar saw a decrease in revenue in the same time period.
Hard Rock reported $31.7 million in revenues in June and $37.3 million in July, according to the report.
Horseshoe Hammond reported $21.2 million in revenues in June and $19 million in July, while Ameristar reported $12.9 million in revenues in June and $12.7 million in July, according to the report.
Ameristar and Horseshoe Hammond officials did not respond to requests for comment.
August tends to be 'a mixed bag,' as parents help their students go back to school, Schuffert said. But, this August has five full weekends, including a part of Labor Day weekend, which could help bump up the numbers, he said.
'It's usually a decent month, not a great month,' Schuffert said.

Our best budget cooling mattress just dropped to its lowest price — get a queen for only $599

Cocoon by Sealy has just ended its 35% off permanent sale. While that sounds like bad news, it's not all doom and gloom as it's now dropped the retail price of the Chill mattress, which you can now get for just $599 in a queen size at Cocoon by Sealy (it sold for $699 until this week). Rejoice, hot sleepers. You'll find the Cocoon by Sealy Chill in our best cooling mattress guide as our recommended budget option. This means it offers superb temperature regulation at an unbeatable price, and it's now between $50 and $100 cheaper in every size. Labor Day mattress sales are fast approaching, which means plenty of upcoming opportunities to save on cooling beds along with most of the best mattresses on the market. We'd be surprised if this price went any lower, though, so if you're after a reliable cooling bed at a budget price, here's why the Cocoon by Sealy Chill should be on your radar... Cocoon by Sealy Chill Mattress: twin was $399 now $349 at Cocoon by SealyThe 10" Cocoon by Sealy Chill Memory Foam Mattress got high scores across the board in our thorough mattress tests, scoring 4.5 out of 5 stars in temperature regulation and motion isolation tests. This means it's a great option for both hot sleepers and restless couples. Some the best memory foam mattresses of the year aren't very impressive when it comes to delivering cool sleep, as foam has a natural tendency to trap heat. However, the Cocoon Chill mattress features Phase Change Material to cool the bed without missing out on the cozy memory foam 'hug' sensation when you lie on it. At Sealy you get a 100-night trial, 10-year warranty and typically a free sleep bundle thrown in too including pillows, a sheet set and mattress protector. Our review: ★★★★User score: ★★★★½ (8,670+ reviews) If you're after the lowest price yet (who isn't), yes, you should buy now. While the prices of many mattresses are rising amid the current financial crisis, the Cocoon Chill actually just got an actual price drop. Until recently, the Cocoon by Sealy mattress sale consistently knocked 35% off the Chill mattress MSRP (the supposed price of the mattress, though it was never sold at that), taking a queen size from $1,079 to $699. Although this sale has now ended, the new MSRP is lower than previous sale prices. This is the second price drop we've seen on this bed. A queen size was once $1,239 at full price (sold at $774), but in 2024 it dropped to $1,079 (sold at $699), and that reduction just got even better. Hence why we consider it one of the very best affordable mattresses around. We may see discounts come back in closer to Labor Day, but even without an active mattress sale, you can rest assured you're getting great value with the Cocoon by Sealy Chill.

CNBC Daily Open: Under Trump, business and politics are becoming bedfellows

Don't mix business with pleasure — or the music of the spheres might eject you from the skies even if you are an astronomer — but it seems, in the current milieu, there are no such restrictions between business and politics. U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is eyeing a stake in struggling chipmaker Intel, according to a Bloomberg report on Thursday. That consideration is primarily attributable to Intel's status as the only born-and-bred American company that can manufacture the fastest chips on U.S. soil. While some firms such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and Samsung, both of which can produce 3-nanometer chips — the most advanced semiconductors so far — have factories in the U.S., they are Taiwanese and South Korean companies, respectively, and probably do not enjoy apple pies on the Fourth of July. In combination with the news that Nvidia and AMD will pay the U.S. government a 15% share of their revenue from chip sales in China, as well as Apple committing to make more chips in America, the Trump administration seems to be consolidating a chip empire with the White House as its capital. Ukraine talks could be a test of statecraft Russian President Vladimir Putin's standing in the West may be pretty low, but he's a skilled and seasoned statesman who shouldn't be underestimated, analysts say — and he's likely to be looking to outmaneuver his less experienced U.S. counterpart when the leaders meet in Alaska on Friday. "Let's be clear, Putin does not take Trump seriously," Tina Fordham, founder of Fordham Global Foresight, told CNBC ahead of the talks.
