McKenna Grace, Joseph Zada, and Whitney Peak join The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping cast

Lionsgate's upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has added several key cast members to its roster.
McKenna Grace will play Maysilee Donner, a fellow District 12 Tribute alongside Haymitch Abernathy, portrayed by Joseph Zada. Whitney Peak will take on the role of Lenore Dove Baird, Haymitch's girlfriend. The highly anticipated film, based on Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel, is set to release on November 20, 2026.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, Sunrise on the Reaping will explore the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, beginning with the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. In this edition, there will be twice the number of tributes, with 48 children sent into the arena. The story centers on 16-year-old Haymitch, who is unexpectedly chosen as a tribute from District 12, and the deadly twist that awaits him.
The casting of Zada and Peak comes after an extensive search for the right actors to portray these beloved characters. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erin Westerman praised their performances, stating, "Jo and Whitney carry that legacy forward with incredible heart, depth, and fire." Producer Nina Jacobson also expressed excitement over the casting, calling it a "magical" moment when the pair was brought together for the roles.
Grace, known for her roles in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, joins the franchise after starring in several high-profile projects, including Regretting You and Kiss of Death. Zada, who currently stars in the Stan Australia series Invisible Boys, will appear next in We Were Liars on Prime Video and Netflix's East of Eden. Peak, best known for Gossip Girl and Hocus Pocus 2, will soon be seen in Shiver and 4 Kids Walk into a Bank.
The Hunger Games franchise has grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide, and Sunrise on the Reaping is expected to continue the legacy. The film will dive deeper into the emotional and violent history of Panem, giving fans a closer look at Haymitch's origin story and the complex relationships that shaped the events leading to the original Hunger Games.

Blumhouse acquires Saw franchise rights from Twisted Pictures

Blumhouse is reportedly acquiring the rights to the Saw franchise from Twisted Pictures, marking a major shift in the future of the iconic horror series. According to Deadline, the deal will give Blumhouse ownership of Twisted Pictures' 50% stake in the franchise, while Lionsgate will retain its share and remain a production partner. This move comes after Saw XI was unexpectedly pulled from its planned September 26, 2025 release. Behind-the-scenes disputes between Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures had stalled production and left the fate of the franchise uncertain. With Blumhouse now stepping in, hopes for the return of the Saw series have been reignited. Although no new Saw movie is currently in development, the acquisition suggests Blumhouse has long-term plans for the franchise. Notably, the deal also reconnects Saw with co-creator James Wan. Thanks to the recent merger between Blumhouse and Wan's Atomic Monster production company, Wan is expected to have renewed involvement with the series he helped launch. The Saw franchise began in 2004 and became one of the most successful horror film series of all time. After a successful 10th installment, fans were anticipating Saw XI until development issues paused progress. While details remain scarce, industry insiders believe that Blumhouse's track record with horror franchises could breathe new life into Saw, potentially reuniting fans with the iconic Jigsaw in the near future. More updates are expected as the transition unfolds.

Good Fortune trailer: New film starring Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, and Aziz Ansari in theaters October 17

Lionsgate has unveiled the first trailer for Good Fortune, the much-anticipated directorial debut from Aziz Ansari. The film follows Gabriel (Keanu Reeves), a well-meaning but bumbling angel who intervenes in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen). The cast also includes Sandra Oh and Keke Palmer. In a previous statement, Ansari praised Palmer, saying, 'Keke is a delight to work with. I'm so happy she's a part of our cast and even more excited to provide a quote for this press release announcing her casting.' Good Fortune marks Ansari's first feature as a director, following his success as star and creator of Netflix's Master of None. The film is produced by Ansari, Anthony Katagas and Alan Yang, with Ansari, Christopher Woodrow, Connor DiGregorio and Jonathan McCoy serving as executive producers. Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey oversee the project for Lionsgate, with Dan Freedman, Phil Strina, John Biondo and Matt Leonetti having negotiated the deal for the studio. The film is a joint production between Garam Films, Oh Brudder, Keep Your Head, and Yang Pictures, and is presented by Lionsgate in association with Media Capital Technologies. Originally titled Being Mortal, the film was scheduled for release in 2022 but was shelved following allegations against then-star Bill Murray. Good Fortune is now set to be released in theaters on October 17.
