CPI MP urges President to recall Kerala Governor over 'unconstitutional conduct'
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) MP P Sandosh Kumar on Friday urged President Droupadi Murmu to recall Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, accusing him of 'unconstitutional conduct' over the display of a perticular version of the Bharat Mata image without consulting the state government.
In a letter addressed to the President, Kumar expressed grave concern over the Governor's unilateral decision to display a particular version of the Bharat Mata image during the Environment Day event at the Raj Bhavan in Kerala without any consultation with the elected state government.
'This imposition compelled the State Agriculture Minister P. Prasad to boycott the function, exposing yet again the partisan role being played by Governors in non-BJP ruled states,' Kumar said.
'This is not an isolated case. Governors in several states are increasingly behaving like political agents of the BJP-RSS, openly defying the constitutional framework that demands neutrality, restraint, and respect for elected governments,' said Shri P. Sandosh Kumar. He added that the symbolic manipulation of Bharat Mata-a historically secular and anti-colonial figure- into a sectarian and ideological emblem is a dangerous distortion that cannot be accepted in state functions or constitutional offices.
'They also potentially contravene the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950, and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, by misusing national symbols for political or sectarian purposes. The Bharat Mata image, originally envisioned by Abanindranath Tagore during the Swadeshi Movement as a unifying emblem of anti-colonial resistance, has in recent years been altered and weaponised by an organisation notorious for its divisive politics,' Sandosh Kumar said.
'At a time when cooperative federalism should be the guiding principle of Centre-State relations, such provocations by Governors erode public trust and tarnish the office they occupy,' he said.
He concluded by calling for urgent intervention from the President.
'I urge you to take serious note of this trend and take immediate steps to ensure that Governors do not overstep their constitutional mandate. The Governor of Kerala Rajendra Arlekar, by acting in an openly partisan and unconstitutional manner, has diminished the dignity of the office and should be recalled. The Raj Bhavans must remain neutral, constitutional spaces--not ideological shakhas. I hope this matter will find your much necessary intervention,' Kumar said. (ANI)

Lucknow police gears up for peaceful Bakrid celebrations
As the city gears up to celebrate Bakrid on Saturday, Lucknow Police have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure peaceful observance of the festival, with a clear focus on preventing the sacrifice of banned animals and maintaining communal harmony. Joint commissioner of police (law & order) Babloo Kumar said that strict measures are in place to stop the sacrifice of restricted animals. 'Nagar Nigam teams have been deployed across the city, especially in sensitive areas, to ensure no banned animals are sacrificed. Volunteers from the local community have also been engaged to assist and facilitate the celebrations,' he stated. To strengthen coordination and community outreach, Peace Committees have been constituted at every police station in Lucknow. 'Meetings have been held at the level of DCPs involving Peace Committee members. Their concerns have been addressed, and the police department is working in coordination with local leaders to maintain calm and cooperation,' Kumar added. Highlighting the scale of security arrangements, the JCP said that 14 companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), one unit of Rapid Action Force (RAF), and large contingents of civil police have been deployed throughout the city. Sensitive areas like Aishbagh Eidgah, Teelewali Masjid, and Bada Imambada are under tight security cover, with barricading, RRF presence, and heavy patrolling. The western sector will have round-the-clock PAC deployment, and real-time surveillance will be carried out through CCTV cameras and drone monitoring. Police Response Vehicles (PRVs) are being actively routed for continuous patrolling. 'All officers are on high alert, and our goal is to ensure that the three-day Bakrid celebrations pass peacefully and with full religious dignity,' the JCP assured.

Who will be next BJP national president? All eyes on these three heavyweights
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to shift focus to organisational matters, particularly the appointment of its next national president. While the party has made no official announcement yet, sources suggest that internal deliberations are underway and a formal process could begin as early as mid-June. According to sources cited by Live Hindustan, the BJP has completed organisational elections in most states, which are a necessary precondition under the party constitution before electing the next national president. The recent announcement of 70 district presidents in Uttar Pradesh has further fuelled speculation that the central leadership may soon decide on the BJP chief post. However, the process is said to have been briefly delayed in the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir on April 22. Party sources reportedly indicate that before the national-level appointment, the BJP may first finalise new state unit presidents in key states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. In Uttar Pradesh, where caste equations are pivotal, a Brahmin face was reportedly being considered earlier. However, a growing demand for an OBC leader has emerged within sections of the party, reported Live Hindustan. This shift could reflect the BJP's broader attempt to consolidate its OBC support base, particularly after recent electoral trends. In Madhya Pradesh, the current leadership structure has an OBC Chief Minister and a Brahmin state president – a balance that has so far worked for the party. However, sources suggest the party is now considering appointing a tribal leader as the state chief, given the relatively low tribal representation in the current state and national leadership. In Uttarakhand, a Brahmin leader is said to be the frontrunner for the state president's post, although no official confirmation has been made. Even as the state-level equations are being finalised, names of potential contenders for the national president's post have started doing the rounds in party circles. Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a key OBC leader from Odisha, known for his organisational acumen and proximity to the central leadership is one of the key bigwigs in the race for the party's president post. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has emerged as another top contender. A former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and now a union minister, is seen as a mass leader with grassroots experience. Manohar Lal Khattar, who recently transitioned from his role as Haryana chief minister to the union cabinet, could represent continuity and administrative experience; hence, he is said to be one of the big three names the BJP may choose from. According to sources, the party's final choice is likely to factor in organisational experience, regional representation, and caste balance. The current national president, JP Nadda, has held the post since January 2020. His term was extended to steer the party through the 2024 general elections. With that mandate now fulfilled, leadership transition discussions have gained momentum. A central election committee is expected to be constituted to oversee the election process, which will include nomination filing, scrutiny, and, if necessary, voting. As of now, it is unclear whether Nadda will seek a second full term or the party will opt for a fresh face. Opposition parties , including the Congress and AAP, are said to be following the developments closely. The new chief will be instrumental in framing electoral narratives ahead of crucial state elections in 2026 and the next Lok Sabha polls in 2029.

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is working tirelessly with a vision to create a strong, self-reliant and self-sufficient developed country for future generations. While addressing the media during his visit to the BJP State Headquarters on Friday, the Minister noted that the Modi-3.0 administration will complete one year on June 9. Over the past 11 years, the government has operated with the motto 'Nation First,' aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 agenda. He emphasised that India has surpassed Japan and is now the fourth-largest economy in the world. Economists project that India could become the third largest economy, surpassing Germany, with a five trillion USD economy by 2027. Sanjay Seth urged BJP party activists and the public to actively participate in the Viksit Bharat agenda. He pointed out that previously, India was a major importer of defense equipment and had not achieved self-reliance in fulfilling a significant portion of its defense needs through domestic production. However, the country is now exporting defense equipment to around 90 countries. He highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Indian defense forces demonstrated their valor during Operation Sindoor, which successfully destroyed nine terrorist hubs inside Pakistan in just 22 minutes. This operation showcases India's military prowess and the preparedness of its forces. Additionally, the Minister mentioned the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, which involves the mass plantation of saplings across the country. He said that Tiranga Yatras are being organised even in villages, as the local populations wished to express their support for the soldiers guarding the borders thousands of miles away. Earlier, during a meeting with senior leaders of the state party, BJP National Vice-President and Mahbubnagar MP DK Aruna honored Sanjay Seth for his contributions.
