NewMarket Corporation Reports Second Quarter and First Half 2025 Results

Business Wire3 days ago
RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NewMarket Corporation (NYSE:NEU) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Thomas E. Gottwald, released the following earnings report of the Company's operations for the second quarter and first half of 2025.
Net income for the second quarter of 2025 was $111.2 million, or $11.84 per share, compared to net income of $111.6 million, or $11.63 per share, for the same period last year. For the first half of 2025, net income was $237.2 million, or $25.11 per share, compared to $219.4 million, or $22.87 per share, for the same period in 2024.
Petroleum additives sales for the second quarter of 2025 were $653.9 million, compared to $669.8 million for the same period in 2024. Petroleum additives operating profit for the second quarter of 2025 was $139.8 million, compared to $147.8 million for the second quarter of 2024. The decrease in petroleum additives operating profit was primarily driven by a 2.5% decline in shipments between quarterly periods and an increase in technology investments, slightly offset by favorable product mix. The decline in shipments was mainly driven by lubricant additives shipments, partially offset by a slight increase in fuel additives shipments.
Petroleum additives sales were $1.3 billion for the first half of 2025 and the first half of 2024. Petroleum additives operating profit for the first half of 2025 was $281.9 million, compared to $298.7 million in the same period last year. The drivers for the decrease in operating profit between these periods were consistent with those affecting the second quarter comparison discussed above. Shipments decreased 4.9% when comparing the first half of 2025 with the same period in 2024, with decreases in both lubricant additives and fuel additives shipments.
Specialty materials sales were $42.0 million for the second quarter of 2025, compared to $38.0 million for the second quarter of 2024. Specialty materials operating profit was $10.5 million for the second quarter of 2025, compared to operating profit of $5.0 million for the second quarter of 2024. The increase in specialty materials operating profit was primarily driven by increased volumes. As previously stated, we will see substantial variation in quarterly results for the specialty materials segment on an ongoing basis due to the nature of its business.
Specialty materials sales were $95.8 million for the first half of 2025, compared to $55.1 million for the first half of 2024. Specialty materials operating profit for the first half of 2025 was $33.7 million, compared to slightly above breakeven in the same period last year. Specialty materials sales and operating profit for the first half of 2024 reflect financial results since the acquisition of American Pacific Corporation (AMPAC) on January 16, 2024.
Our operations generated solid cash flows during the first half of 2025. We repurchased common stock for $77.2 million, including $20.2 million of repurchases in the second quarter, paid dividends of $51.9 million, and funded capital expenditures of $29.3 million in the first half of 2025. Additionally, we reduced our Net Debt by $122.2 million during the first half of 2025, driving our Net Debt to EBITDA ratio down to 1.0 as of June 30, 2025.
We are pleased with the strong performance of our business during the first half of 2025 and continue to see favorable results from our ongoing efficiency initiatives. Investing in technology to meet customer needs, enhancing our operational efficiency, and improving our portfolio profitability will remain priorities throughout 2025.
We continue to monitor the uncertain macroeconomic environment, particularly the changes in international trade relations and tariffs, and assess the potential impacts to our operations. Our dedicated team makes decisions to promote long-term value for our shareholders and customers, and remains focused on our long-term objectives. We believe the fundamentals of how we run our business - a long-term view, safety-first culture, customer-focused solutions, technology-driven product offerings, and world-class supply chain capability - will continue to be beneficial for all our stakeholders.
Sincerely,
Thomas E. Gottwald

The 3 Things That Matter for Realty Income (O) Now

Key Points Realty Income is a giant real estate investment trust and a bellwether in the net lease sector. The REIT is so large relative to its peers that it is likely to be a laggard on the growth front. However, it is working to ensure that it remains a reliable foundation for dividend portfolios. 10 stocks we like better than Realty Income › Realty Income (NYSE: O) is offering investors a 5.6% dividend yield today. That's well above both the market's 1.2% yield and the average real estate investment trust's (REIT's) yield of roughly 3.9%. If you're a long-term dividend investor, it probably makes sense to consider adding Realty Income to your portfolio, since it has increased its dividend annually for three decades and counting. But make sure you understand these three things before you buy it. 1. Realty Income is a giant With a market capitalization of roughly $50 billion, Realty Income is multiple times larger than its next closest peers in the net lease niche of the REIT sector. This is both good and bad. On the negative side, Realty Income is so large that it takes a huge amount of new property acquisitions to move the needle on the top and bottom lines. This means that relatively slow growth is likely to be the norm here in the future. But being so large isn't all bad. On the positive side, Realty Income has the wherewithal to take on deals that its peers couldn't manage. It likely sees all of the material deals that are in the market (allowing it to cherry-pick to some degree), it can act as an industry consolidator, and its size gives it easier access to Wall Street. So while slow growth is probably going to be the norm, steady growth is also highly likely, with contractual rent bumps in its leases augmented by its ability to keep buying new properties. 2. Realty Income is looking to increase its growth opportunities Realty Income isn't ignoring the size limitations it faces. In fact, it is embracing its scale. For example, a few years ago it began expanding into Europe, a market that is still only just starting to use the net lease approach. That materially expands the opportunity set the company has as it looks to buy new properties. Realty Income has also been working to increase the number of property markets in which it competes. Historically, retail and industrial has been the core here. But management has been venturing into new spaces, like casinos and data centers, as it looks to find new levers for growth. More recently, Realty Income has started to make loans and to offer asset management services to institutional investors. Overall, this giant REIT is using its scale to reach out into new areas that will, hopefully, help to sustain its growth over the long term. 3. Realty Income knows what it is The last issue that really matters here is that Realty Income isn't trying to be something it's not. Management understands that it is a giant company and that investors buy it because of its large and reliable dividend. In fact, the company trademarked the nickname, "The Monthly Dividend Company" to highlight the commitment it has to being a reliable dividend stock. This is so important because it means that the board and the CEO aren't building castles in the sand that will get washed away when the tide comes in. They are building a REIT that can keep paying dividends reliably through thick and thin. That means that long-term investors can use Realty Income as a foundational investment atop which they can comfortably buy more aggressive dividend stocks. What really matters with Realty Income is both obvious and subtle Every company has nuances to consider, and that's true of Realty Income, too. The two most obvious stories are the company's vast size and what it is doing with the scale it has achieved. In the background, however, is perhaps the most notable issue. Realty Income knows what its shareholders expect, and it's working every day to meet those expectations by providing investors with a reliable and growing dividend. As AI Momentum Grows, Should Investors Buy ServiceNow Stock?

Key Points ServiceNow turned in strong Q2 results and raised guidance powered by AI adoption. The company looks well positioned as the world turns to AI agents. However, the stock has struggled to gain traction this year. 10 stocks we like better than ServiceNow › Share prices of ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW) jumped after the software company reported strong revenue growth and yet again raised its guidance due to strong artificial intelligence (AI) adoption. That said, the stock has struggled to gain traction this year, with its shares down about 7% as of this writing. Despite the stock's underperformance in 2025, it is still one of the best-performing stocks of the past decade, with its shares up nearly 1,200% during that span. The software-as-a-service (SaaS) company made a name for itself as an information technology (IT) management platform before expanding into other areas of organizational workflows such as customer service and human resources. ServiceNow's strength is that its platform can connect siloed departments to create a unified system of record between departments. This in turn is used to help organizations digitize, streamline, and automate their operations. ServiceNow's unified data system and structured workflows make it an ideal environment for AI, which performs best when it has clean and consistent data. As such, the company has embedded AI throughout its Now Platform, including introducing generative AI assistants and more recently AI agents. AI growth continues AI continued to be the biggest driver of ServiceNow's growth in the second quarter. Now Assist -- the company's generative AI suite of solutions -- continued to outperform expectations, with the company signing 21 deals that have five or more Now Assist products. Its number of Pro Plus deals -- which bundle Now Assist with other advanced tools -- climbed 50% sequentially. Eighteen of its 20 largest deals included Pro Plus. The company also recently introduced AI Control Tower, which is a centralized platform for managing AI agents from both ServiceNow and third parties. The company is already using AI agents across its own business and sees AI agents as having a $350 million value this year. Meanwhile, it said it already surpassed its initial full-year net new annual contract value (ACV) expectations for AI Control Tower in just 60 days. Turning to its results, revenue rose 22.5% year over year to $3.22 billion, while adjusted earnings per share (EPS) climbed 30.7% to $4.09. That easily topped the analyst consensus, which was looking for EPS of $3.57 on revenue of $3.12 billion, as compiled by the LSEG. Subscription revenue jumped 22.5% year over year to $3.11 billion, while professional services revenue climbed 19.5% to $102 million. The company continues to do well in adding large customers, increasing its number of customers with a net ACV of $20 million or more by more than 30%. It had 89 deals greater than $1 million in net new ACV in the quarter. The company said transportation and logistics ACV soared more than 100% in the quarter, while technology, media, and telecom ACV surged 70%. Another metric investors like to follow with ServiceNow is growth in remaining performance obligations (RPO), which is deferred revenue plus backlog growth, since it can be an indicator of future growth. In the quarter, the company saw RPO increase by 29% to $23.9 billion, while current RPO (cRPO) rose by 24.5% to $10.9 billion. ServiceNow's revenue growth accelerated in Q2, and this could be an indication that this could continue. The company forecast its Q3 subscription revenue to grow between 20% to 20.5% to a range of $3.26 billion to $3.265 billion. It is expecting cRPO to also increase by 18.5%. Notably, its subscription revenue growth forecast for Q3 is higher than its forecast was for Q2. For the full year, the company upped its subscription revenue guidance. It now anticipates subscription revenue of between $12.775 billion to $12.795 billion, up from previous guidance of $12.64 billion to $12.68 billion. The updated outlook represents growth of around 20%. Original Forecast (Jan) Prior Forecast (Apr) New Forecast (July) Subscription revenue $12.635 billion to $12.675 billion $12.64 billion to $12.68 billion $12.775 billion to $12.795 billion Growth 18.5% to 19% 19% to 19.5% 20% Source: ServiceNow. Is the stock a buy? ServiceNow's stock has been caught up in the narrative that there is a cautious enterprise-software spending environment. However, the company has continued to see strong growth, which accelerated in Q2 and could possibly accelerate next quarter as well. Given that its platform can improve operational efficiency and save costs, the company is in a solid position even during periods of economic uncertainty. More importantly, though, the company looks well positioned to be an AI winner. Its already seeing solid growth stemming from AI, and now it's looking to become an AI agentic hub through its AI Control Tower. If agentic AI become the next big AI investment wave, ServiceNow looks set to be a big potential winner. From a valuation perspective, the stock trades at a forward price-to-sales multiple of 13 based on 2026 analyst estimates. That's reasonable for a high-margin SaaS business with 20%-plus revenue growth, but it's also likely a part of the reason why the stock has been stuck in the mud this year despite posting strong results. I think it is worth accumulating a small position in the stock at current levels, but I'd be a more aggressive buyer on a dip. Do the experts think ServiceNow is a buy right now? The Motley Fool's expert analyst team, drawing on years of investing experience and deep analysis of thousands of stocks, leverages our proprietary Moneyball AI investing database to uncover top opportunities. They've just revealed their to buy now — did ServiceNow make the list? When our Stock Advisor analyst team has a stock recommendation, it can pay to listen. IDEX Corporation Just Beat EPS By 5.8%: Here's What Analysts Think Will Happen Next

It's been a mediocre week for IDEX Corporation (NYSE:IEX) shareholders, with the stock dropping 14% to US$159 in the week since its latest second-quarter results. The result was positive overall - although revenues of US$865m were in line with what the analysts predicted, IDEX surprised by delivering a statutory profit of US$1.74 per share, modestly greater than expected. Following the result, the analysts have updated their earnings model, and it would be good to know whether they think there's been a strong change in the company's prospects, or if it's business as usual. We've gathered the most recent statutory forecasts to see whether the analysts have changed their earnings models, following these results. We've found 21 US stocks that are forecast to pay a dividend yield of over 6% next year. See the full list for free. Taking into account the latest results, the current consensus from IDEX's twelve analysts is for revenues of US$3.43b in 2025. This would reflect an okay 2.8% increase on its revenue over the past 12 months. Statutory per share are forecast to be US$6.25, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$3.44b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$6.70 in 2025. So it looks like there's been a small decline in overall sentiment after the recent results - there's been no major change to revenue estimates, but the analysts did make a minor downgrade to their earnings per share forecasts. Check out our latest analysis for IDEX The consensus price target held steady at US$201, with the analysts seemingly voting that their lower forecast earnings are not expected to lead to a lower stock price in the foreseeable future. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. Currently, the most bullish analyst values IDEX at US$225 per share, while the most bearish prices it at US$170. With such a narrow range of valuations, the analysts apparently share similar views on what they think the business is worth. Taking a look at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can understand these forecasts is to see how they compare to both past performance and industry growth estimates. It's pretty clear that there is an expectation that IDEX's revenue growth will slow down substantially, with revenues to the end of 2025 expected to display 5.7% growth on an annualised basis. This is compared to a historical growth rate of 7.3% over the past five years. Juxtapose this against the other companies in the industry with analyst coverage, which are forecast to grow their revenues (in aggregate) 4.3% per year. So it's pretty clear that, while IDEX's revenue growth is expected to slow, it's still expected to grow faster than the industry itself. The Bottom Line The biggest concern is that the analysts reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds could lay ahead for IDEX. Happily, there were no major changes to revenue forecasts, with the business still expected to grow faster than the wider industry. The consensus price target held steady at US$201, with the latest estimates not enough to have an impact on their price targets. Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings.
