A heated exchange erupted between Maria Sakkari and Yulia Putintseva at the Bad Homburg, culminating in a fiery post-match confrontation.
Wild card Sakkari emerged as a 7-5, 7-6(6) victor over fellow tennis star Putintseva during their third-round clash at the tournament in Germany on Sunday. And things boiled over as they approached the net for the customary post-match handshake.
A somewhat rigid handshake preceded some pent-up tension being unleashed as Sakkari visibly looked vexed when she confronted Putintseva, telling her to "act like a human being." Unrepentant, Putintseva responded by instructing Sakkari to "go f*** herself" and demanded she be left alone, followed by a dismissive shooing motion.
Although not every utterance was captured by the court-side microphones, Sakkari could be seen following Putintseva to her bench. The Mirror reported she then briefly moved away, only to turn back and respond: "F*****g hell, I'm what? Nobody likes you!"
Sakkari, 29, continued her rival by scolding Putintseva for failing to maintain eye contact during their handshake. The umpire then interjected with a plea for calm: "Ladies, please."
Coolly collected in her contempt, Putintseva responded with a mocking bow towards Sakkari. And she appeared to do her best to wind up the Greek star as she quipped: "Thank you very much."

Sakkari was then interviewed on court amid laughter from the crowd regarding her argument with Putintseva. The reporter sought to ease the tensions as he asked: "Everyone saw a little bit of a discussion at the end, did she (Putintseva) invite you for dinner? What happened?"
Sakkari smiled as she replied: "I don't think she's gonna invite me for dinner for the rest of our lives. But I don't care to be honest. I have very good friends and I'll go to dinner with them. So, let me leave it here and say that I have a respect [for] her as a player, but that's it."

Putintseva exhibited controversial behaviour at last year's US Open when she was embroiled in backlash for ignoring balls thrown to her by a ballgirl. These actions led to her receiving boos from spectators, and many criticised the Kazakh star for her lack of etiquette at the time.
The 30-year-old later apologised twice on social media and said: "It's kind of scary the way the world can judge someone from just a three-second video, that someone posts from one side, without seeing the rest on what was really happening.
"I was just playing tennis and lost a tough game, which was very close (in my opinion) to turn that match around. After the game (as you can see on a pic) I got very much disappointed and was almost crying, that I didn't do better.

"At this time the girl was giving me the ball, which I didn't even notice or so, because I was deep in my thoughts...I was not trying to humiliate her (or anyone) by not taking this ball that she was giving to me.
"I didn't do anything disrespectful to anyone at this particular moment. I do apologise, if this girl thinks that it was something towards her. (And btw her name is Kate, very nice girl, which understood that it was nothing towards her).
"I can't say that I am perfect all my career. I am getting angry on court, p****d, saying stupid stuff and curse like no tomorrow sometimes. Guilty for that. But I did never put myself 'on top' of someone. That's just not me at all."

The brilliant Bob MacIntyre boosts earned by his epic seven-week US run
Scottish star set-up perfectly for huge home events after strong Stateside sequence Flying Bob MacIntyre returns home for the next exciting chapter in his burgeoning career rewarded for a sparkling spell through the gruelling seven-week run in the States. The Scottish star's hard work has paid off having made huge advances through a key period of the campaign to cement his positions in a variety of key races. MacIntyre highlighted the successive-tournament spell with his stunning runner-up finish at the US Open after also bagging a sixth-place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge and a Top 20 at the Memorial. With positive other outings at the PGA Championship, Truist Championship and RBC Canadian Open, the 28-year-old set himself up to sign off the sequence in style at the Travelers Championship and he duly did so with a final-day surge to clinch a tied-17th at TPC River Highlands. Chunky prize money including £1.7 million for his fabulous US Open week aside, MacIntyre has secured other key bonuses in terms of ranking boosts. Having moved to fourth place in The Ryder Cup qualification standings following his second at Oakmont, the Tartan star made key further advancements in the chase for the Bethpage in September with his six-under par total in Connecticut. Although he remains in fourth due to heartbroken Travelers' runner-up Tommy Fleetwood leaping up from seventh to second in the battle to join Rory McIlroy in Luke Donald's side, MacIntyre went above Shane Lowry in the standings and also opened further space to seventh-placed Rasmus Hojgaard with the top six guaranteed a team-place against the United States in New York. On the individual front, the Oban star has returned to his homeland for the big summer events rated at No.14 in the Official World Golf Rankings. MacIntyre is also destined for the end-of-season FedEx Cup play-offs in the States as he sits in 20th place on that table with the Top 50 making it through. In terms of the Race to Dubai figures, MacIntyre sits seventh and heading to the DP World Tour play-offs in November. With that spell now behind him and the points and the career ascent continuing, he is now back on home soil freshening up ahead of a spectacular period with two of the very biggest of the year looming large through the next month. MacIntyre's next assignment will see him defend the Genesis Scottish Open title which he won last year in memorable fashion at The Renaissance Club to back-up his RBC Canadian Open success and bag a second PGA Tour title in front of his adoring support. From East Lothian, it will then be onto Royal Portrush and a crack at the 153rd Open Championship with the scent for Major glory in his nostrils. MacIntyre's performance and end result at the US Open has fuelled his belief he can win one of the big-four events and, as well as performing impressively as a youngster at the Northern Irish venue, he also has a tied-sixth finish in the locker from his Open debut at Portrush six years ago.

Keegan Bradley set for Ryder Cup job that hasn't existed for 62 years after stunning PGA Travellers Championship win
KEEGAN Bradley is set to become the first Ryder Cup captain to play in the event in more than 60 years after denying Tommy Fleetwood his first PGA Tour win. Exactly a year after being handed the USA reins for Bethpage Black in September, Bradley's birdie on the last at the Travelers Championship coupled with playing partner Fleetwood's bogey saw him win by a shot. 6 Keegan Bradley celebrates with his son Cooper Credit: Reuters 6 Keegan Bradley celebrates after sinking the winning putt at the Travelers Championship Credit: Getty 6 Keegan Bradley reacts to making a birdie putt to tie the lead on the ninth Credit: AP 6 Bradley is a serial winner having won eight times on PGA tour Credit: Getty And Bradley, 39, admitted he is closer to selecting himself for the US dozen than at any stage since he took the role - setting up a potential Sunday singles rematch with the Southport golfer. Golf legend Arnold Palmer was the last playing captain when he led the US to a crushing 23-9 mauling of Great Britain and Ireland at East Lake, near Atlanta, in 1963. But Bradley, now up to seventh in the world rankings and ninth in the US Ryder Cup standings - the top six qualify by right and the captain will select the other half of the team - is ready to rewrite the recent history books. Bradley said: 'I never really planned on playing. I really wanted to just be the captain. 'I really felt strongly about that. I want to serve the guys. 'They asked me to do a job. I want to do it to the best of my abilities. 'But this changes the story a little bit. 'I never would have thought about playing if I hadn't won. Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu accused of 'taking jobs' after blockbuster announcement
Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu accused of 'taking jobs' after blockbuster announcement The US Open mixed doubles draw has been met with a mixed reaction, with Andy Roddick accusing the likes of Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz of 'taking jobs' in the format Emma Raducanu has been slammed by an American tennis icon (Image:for LTA ) Andy Roddick has expressed disapproval over the likes of Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz taking spots in the US Open mixed doubles draw, which he believes should be reserved for doubles specialists. However, the American tennis icon acknowledged that having high-profile players participate can help "grow the game of doubles" and sees it as a positive development as well. The format for the mixed doubles at this year's final grand slam has recently been changed. It now takes place during the qualifying week, which will allow top tennis names to warm up at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center before the singles matches kick off. This change has drawn some criticism as players such as Alcaraz, Raducanu, Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro have entered the draw, potentially displacing lower-ranked doubles players who had intended to compete. Speaking on 'Served with Andy Roddick', the tennis legend shared his conflicted feelings about the new draw announcement. Roddick suggested that while the inclusion of well-known players will attract more fans to doubles, it also does a disservice to those who dedicate their careers to the doubles circuit. Andy Roddick has mixed feelings on the US Open format change (Image:) Article continues below The 42-year-old said: "Now, is it taking jobs away from doubles players who kind of run this side tour? Yeah, it is. "But, if your net, most important thing is - which is the defence that I get when people are mad at me when I talk about doubles - is, 'We have to grow the game of doubles,' there is not a better way to grow the game of doubles than to have the biggest stars on earth playing doubles, featured, ESPN prime time, in the lead-up to the US Open." Roddick added: "This entry list, I thought it would be fine, I thought we'd have some cool names and some cool matchups, [but] this is a 12/10 with the people who are going to do this. Don't argue with me about what mixed doubles should be if you don't get excited about this. Jannik Sinner will also participate in the mixed doubles (Image:) "People were like we had to grow the game of doubles, so we can't take that away from the doubles that people don't watch regularly... that was confusing to me. Now, you get nine of the top 10 on each side, biggest stars on earth, and then some. This is going to bring more eyeballs to the game of doubles." The American tennis legend's comments have shed light on the mixed atmosphere surrounding the doubles event at this year's US Open, with fans eagerly anticipating the high-profile pairings set to grace the courts. Article continues below These partnerships include Alcaraz and Raducanu, Sinner and Navarro, Olga Danilovic paired with Novak Djokovic, and Naomi Osaka joining forces with Nick Kyrgios. However, viewers feel the sting for those doubles specialists, who may have missed out on a place at the event due to the format change. The US Open mixed doubles tournament will be held over two days, on August 19 and 20, during the qualifying week of the season's final major tournament.
