Indian automotive industry leader and Chairman of Sona Comstar, Sunjay Kapur, breathed his last on Thursday. He was 53 years old. Sunjay was Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor's former husband. The couple became parents to daughter Samaira in 2005 and son Kiaan in 2011. In 2014, Karisma and Sanjay filed for divorce through mutual consent. Their divorce was finalised in 2016. After the separation, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev. Actor and friend of Sunjay Kapur, Suhel Seth, confirmed the demise of Sunjay Kapur to news agency ANI on Thursday, saying that the industrialist died of a heart attack, apparently after swallowing a bee during a polo match in England.
As far as Sunjay Kapur's personal life is concerned, he was married first to Nandita Mahtani. Later, he married the Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor. They got divorced, and he subsequently married actress and model Priya Sachdev, who was previously married to hotelier Vikram Chatwal.
Earlier, Priya married hotelier Vikram Chatwal. Their lavish wedding was held in 2006, lasted for 10 days, and reportedly cost around Rs 100 crore. According to the NDTV report, the grand celebration saw VIP guests from 126 countries around the world. However, despite the extravagant affair, their marriage lasted only five years. Soon, the couple got divorced in 2011. From her first marriage, Priya has a daughter, and after marrying Sanjay Kapur, she had a son with him.
Priya Sachdev's first husband, Vikram Chatwal, is 53 years old. Vikram was born in Ethiopia. His family moved to Canada in the 1970s and then to New York in 1980. His father invested in fine dining restaurants and the hotel industry once they lived in New York. Vikram is of Indian Sikh descent.
He finished his schooling at the United Nations International School. Furthermore, he earned a graduate degree from the Wharton School of Business in 1993. After graduating, Vikram worked at a large American multinational bank and investment firm.
Just a few hours before his demise, Sunjay had expressed grief over the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. 'Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash,' reads Sunjay's last post on X(formerly Twitter).
Apart from being a businessman, Vikram has been a model, an actor, and a producer. He is also the first Sikh model ever to be on the cover of Vogue magazine. He took over the helm of his family's hospitality business in 1999. Vikram Chatwal made his Hollywood debut in the film Zoolander (2001). He later appeared in One Dollar Curry (2004) and Hope and a Little Sugar (2006). In addition to Hollywood films, he has appeared in Bollywood films, including Ek Ajnabee (2005) with Amitabh Bachchan and Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007).

Rs 10,300 crore wealth left in limbo after Sunjay Kapur's death: Who will inherit the massive fortune?

The unexpected passing of industrialist Sunjay Kapur has shaken both the business and entertainment industries, leaving a leadership vacuum at Sona Comstar, the Rs 31,000 crore auto components giant he headed. The 53-year-old billionaire reportedly died of a heart attack while playing polo in London. Some reports suggest the fatal cardiac arrest may have been triggered by accidentally swallowing a bee during the game. Sunjay Kapur's death also brings renewed focus on the future of his massive personal wealth and the succession strategy for his business empire. The chairman of Sona Comstar was widely credited with expanding the company globally after taking over in 2015, following the death of his father and Sona Group founder Dr. Surinder Kapur. Shares Tumble, Company Issues Statement Following the announcement of his death, shares of Sona Comstar dropped by 7% in early Friday trading, reflecting investor uncertainty. In an effort to stabilise sentiments, the company released a statement saying, 'His vision, values, and dedication to excellence has left a lasting legacy for the company. We assure our customers, business partners, employees, and shareholders that our operations and prospects remain unchanged as we honour his legacy.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025년 가장 멋진 RPG 게임을 지금 정복하세요 레이드 섀도우 레전드 Undo While there is no official word on who will lead Sona Comstar next, reports suggest that the board will continue to manage the company, and his sisters might step into active roles. Wealth Division and Provisions for His Children At the time of his passing, Sunjay Kapur's personal net worth stood at approximately Rs 10,300 crore ($1.2 billion), according to Forbes. His fortune had peaked at Rs 13,000 crore ($1.6 billion) in both 2022 and 2024. As per legal succession norms, the management of his estate passes to his wife Priya Sachdev. Nonetheless, Kapur had already secured financial arrangements for his children with Karisma Kapoor—Samaira (20) and Kiaan (14). Reports confirm that bonds worth Rs 14 crore were set aside for them, and both are expected to receive a monthly income of Rs 10 lakh each. Kapur also had a six-year-old son, Azarias, with Priya Sachdev, and had adopted her daughter from a previous marriage, Safira Chatwal. None of the children are currently involved in Sona Comstar's business operations. A Tumultuous Personal Life Sunjay Kapur's personal life often attracted headlines. His first marriage was to designer Nandita Mahtani in 1996, which ended in 2000. His second, to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor in 2003, ended in a highly publicised divorce in 2016. The relationship had turned contentious, with allegations of domestic abuse and legal disputes over child support. During the divorce proceedings, Karisma claimed she faced pressure and mistreatment, including an incident where Sunjay allegedly directed his mother to slap her during pregnancy. These allegations were widely reported and fueled extensive media attention. Despite the acrimonious split, Kapur ensured financial support for their children. As part of the settlement, Karisma received ₹14 crore in bonds for them and a residence in Khar. Family Reactions and Public Tributes Karisma Kapoor has not released a statement since his passing, though several family members and celebrities including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Amrita Arora were seen visiting her home to offer support. Sunjay Kapur's death was confirmed publicly by Suhel Seth, who called it 'a terrible loss' in a post on social media. Earlier, Karisma's father Randhir Kapoor had openly criticised Sunjay, calling him a "third-class man" and stating that the Kapoor family 'never married for money.' As the company and family navigate this transition, the future of Sona Comstar and the final execution of Sunjay Kapur's estate plans remain under close public and investor scrutiny.

Ballerina and Materialists box office collection Day 2: Ana de Armas and Dakota Johnson starrers sees good growth on Saturday

Hollywood's big weekend at the Indian box office saw a promising upswing in collections as Ana de Armas-led Ballerina and Dakota Johnson 's Materialists battled for audience attention alongside the family-friendly How to Train Your Dragon, which continues to dominate. Spinning out from the John Wick universe, Ballerina (also available in 4DX) made a confident leap at the Indian box office. After an opening day collection of Rs 1.6 crore on Friday, the action-thriller saw a significant jump of 68% on Saturday, earning an estimated Rs 2.7 crore. This brings its two-day domestic total to Rs 4.3 crore, according to data from Sacnilk. A large chunk of the revenue came from English-language shows, which contributed approximately Rs 3.38 crore of the total. The dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu collectively added the remaining Rs 92 lakh, indicating the franchise's continued appeal among urban, English-speaking audiences. Ballerina, headlined by Ana de Armas , is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, and has benefited from brand recognition and a visually immersive 4DX release. It has managed to secure the second-highest box office opening for a Hollywood film this weekend, trailing only behind How to Train Your Dragon, which is on track to cross the Rs 10 crore mark. Meanwhile, Materialists—a romantic comedy starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans , and Pedro Pascal , and directed by Celine Song—had a softer start, opening with Rs 60 lakh on Friday. However, the film doubled its collections on Saturday, earning Rs 1.31 crore and bringing its two-day total to Rs 1.91 crore. Though behind Ballerina in the domestic market, Materialist is making headlines globally. The film debuted with an impressive $12 million in North America, marking the third-highest opening ever for A24, behind only Civil War ($25.5 million) and Hereditary ($13.5 million). This performance continues the recent momentum for rom-coms at the box office, following the success of Ticket to Paradise ($16.5 million) and Anyone But You ($6 million). With Father's Day on Sunday and positive word of mouth, all three films are expected to benefit from weekend footfall. Ballerina may cross Rs 6 crore by the end of the weekend, while Materialist could reach Rs 3 crore, depending on Sunday's momentum. How to Train Your Dragon, buoyed by family audiences and critical praise, is leading the pack and poised to be the weekend's breakout winner.
