Martindale: It'd be ‘stupid' to write off Tony Bloom in Hearts quest
The Brighton owner, who recently completed a deal to become a Jambos shareholder, has made waves in Scottish football by claiming in interviews on Sunday and Monday – during a visit to Edinburgh – that he would be 'very disappointed' if the Tynecastle club have not won the Premiership title within 10 years.
Rangers and Celtic have won every championship between them since Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen triumphed in 1985.
But Martindale has no doubt that Bloom, who has enjoyed notable success at Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise with the aid of Jamestown Analytics, is equipped to back up his bullish words and crack the Old Firm stranglehold.
'Yep, I think he's shown he can do it with Union, very, very similar,' the Lions boss said on Wednesday, referring to the fact USG, where Bloom is a shareholder, recently won their first Belgian title in 90 years.
'I think he's given himself a lot of wriggle room by saying 10 years, but do I believe that they can achieve that? It would be a stupid man that would bet against it.
'If I was a betting man, I would put my money on Tony Bloom achieving what he said he's wanting to achieve rather than saying he's talking ludicrous. I'd definitely put my chips behind him because I think he's shown he can do it.'
Martindale, whose club recently moved coach Brian Rice into a new head of football operations role, admitted he was 'envious' that his Hearts counterpart Derek McInnes had access to Jamestown – an offshoot of Bloom's Starlizard sports analysis firm – to underpin his recruitment.
'I've spoken about it at Livingston over the years, we're a good bit behind with that, but bringing Chipper (Rice) in upstairs is kind of that first stepping stone to make us a wee bit smarter with our recruitment,' he said.
'But again, you need the resources behind you to help you with that and that's always going to be a problem at a smaller club.
'For me, ideally, that would kind of be the basic fundamentals I'd like to work under, so I'm envious of Derek.
'I think your eyes make the final decision but I think data definitely puts them on your radar. You could say everybody's using data, but I don't think everybody does it the same.
'The way football life is going now, artificial intelligence is playing a massive part in your everyday life and it helps you make smarter decisions.
'Tony kind of implemented that artificial intelligence years ago with the Jamestown Analytics. He's shown that he can do it at the highest level with a real high degree of success, so Tony taking his strategy into Hearts is going to obviously enhance Hearts.'

Martindale: ‘Bokila adds variation to the squad'
Jeremy Bokila made an immediate impact in the 31 minutes he was on the pitch for Livingston in their 3-1 victory over Falkirk, producing a sensational finish to finally kill off the challenge of the Central Scotland team. David Martindale, Livingston's manager, said the goal after 88 minutes by the 36-year-old was a special finish from a player the club secured after watching him in action in their pre-season training camp in Holland. The Livi boss said: 'The big man has come in, he has played top tier (football) in The Netherlands last year and one of his main attributes is that he is quite physical. 'I felt he got a wee bit of a shock as I felt Falkirk's back three were really physical, but his finish was incredible, it was a great finish.' Martindale said he received a tip off about the player from a contact with a deep knowledge of European football and he 'had a wee look'. The manager was not sure, but the opportunity came to see Bokila in the flesh at the club's training camp in Holland pre-season. He added: 'It shows how humble he is that he came in. He got a wee look at me and I got a wee look at him and he played 60 minutes (in a bounce game) and I felt he could do a job for us. 'He is different from Robbie Muirhead, he is different from Zak Rudden but I feel you need that variation and that squad depth if you are to be successful in the Premiership.' Danny Wilson, Graham Carey and Adam Montgomery were injured against Falkirk and medical reports are awaited but because of the physicality of the Premiership, Martindale believes he will have to run with a squad depth of 25 not 23 as he has historically. Rangers fan who ‘breached security at Ibrox' and infiltrated Dundee supporters huckled out of stadium by stewards

The footage shows a pair of security staff members in being called into action in the Govan West Corner and having to forcibly remove a young male from the area in the final ten minutes of the match. In the clip, the fan is seen shouting and gesturing angrily towards the Dundee supporters, who in turn sparred back with their own verbals. He is lifted up the stairwell and then out through Exit 7, and is seen wearing a Rangers scarf. Even as he is being huckled away by the stewards, he tries to goad other fans near him. Rangers and Police Scotland have been contacted for comment. In terms of matters on the pitch, Gers boss Russell Martin admitted his players looked lethargic despite coming off a feel-good Champions League qualifying win over Viktoria Plzen in midweek. He said: "We lacked aggression in big moments, set plays especially, which is disappointing because we've done a lot of work on them, defended them so well on Tuesday night. "And, we just lacked aggression with the ball really. When Ross McCausland knew it was time to leave Rangers and why he's been blown away by his REPLACEMENTS "You can't get bored of doing the right thing all the time and running and moving the ball quickly, it was a bit too slow at times. "There was definitely a lethargy and it's disappointing and frustrating. "We're learning so much about the guys, they're learning so much on the pitch as well about what's important. "The other night we had to be patient and then when we got picked off, when we got pressed, when we picked people off, then we could go quickly. "Today we're not getting pressed, so it's a completely different challenge for the boys to travel really, really quickly. "And it didn't, but we'll learn from it, it's so early on. "It's a long season, the guys will be better for it for sure, and we just have to keep reminding them what's important all the time."
