Vietnam veteran gets new home in Vandalia, thanks to Habitat for Humanity
The home dedication ceremony happened Friday in Vandalia, and Len Pringle got the keys to his new home.

'So this grandiose dream of mine, hey, let's go to Dayton, Ohio,' Pringle said.
Len and his family's dream of living in a spacious home has come true.
'We all are going to do positive things for this community. I thank the City of Vandalia and Habitat for Humanity, all those beautiful faces,' Pringle said.

Through Habitat for Humanity's affordable mortgage program, Pringle and his wife took classes to learn about homeownership.
Before this, the Pringles lived in a two-bedroom rental, their new three-bedroom home feels much more comfortable.
Pringle says he wants people to know that some veterans struggle, and they want to become homeowners too.
'Veterans need help. Vets are on the streets, they need housing. We need to do something. It starts here,' Pringle said.

All 3 people aboard a small plane that crashed in the ocean off California died, officials say
MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) — All three people aboard a small twin-engine plane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean off California's central coast perished, law enforcement officials said. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office confirmed late Sunday that the three occupants of the plane that went down about 300 yards (275 meters) off Point Pinos were dead. Officials didn't say what led to the Saturday crash. Witnesses said they heard an aircraft engine revving and then a splash in the water, KSBW-TV reported. People on shore later reported seeing debris wash up from the crashed plane. The twin-engine Beech 95-B55 Baron with three people aboard took off from the San Carlos airport at 10:11 p.m. and was last seen at 10:37 p.m. near Monterey, according to flight tracking data from Searchers in a boat found one person around 3 a.m. Divers found the remaining two people inside the aircraft between 6:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. All three were unresponsive, the Coast Guard said. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.

Oregon Humane Society reducing adoption fees for adult pets this weekend
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon Humane Society has a special announcement worthy of a tail wag or two. At their Portland and Salem campuses this weekend, the shelter is reducing adoption fees by 50% for all animals 6 months or older. 'Our Portland and Salem campuses are experiencing an increase in requests to bring animals in,' said Director of Adoptions Eleena Fikhman. 'But helping more pets is only possible when loving adopters step up to help.' They add adopters for adult cats are most needed in Salem and for adult dogs in Portland, noting this is a 'particularly tough time' for large dogs who have a more difficult time finding a home. 'Plus, there are so many advantages to adopting an adult cat or dog. They have so much love to give and make wonderful companions.' The adoption special runs Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July, 20. You can view available pets here. Each adoption includes up-to-date vaccines, spaying or neutering, a microchip, as well as a free exam at OHS' Community Veterinary Hospital in Portland and at participating clinics in Salem.
