Announcing the decision on Truth Social, Trump wrote, 'I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador. Since the beginning of my Second Term, Tammy has been serving with distinction as Spokesperson of the State Department, where she did a fantastic job. Tammy Bruce will represent our Country brilliantly at the United Nations. Congratulations Tammy!'
ITTrump praised Bruce's work at the State Department, highlighting her role as Spokesperson since the start of his second term and expressing confidence that she would represent the US 'brilliantly' at the UN.
Bruce currently serves as the US Department of State Spokesperson, a position she assumed in January 2025 at the start of the Trump-Vance administration. According to the State Department, she advises the Secretary of State on all aspects of the Department's press relations and serves as the principal voice on US foreign policy, delivering public briefings and strategic communication on behalf of the Secretary and the Department.
She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Southern California and was awarded the Spirit of Lincoln Award by the Log Cabin Republicans in 2022. Before joining the administration, Bruce was a Fox News political contributor and commentator for over 20 years and is the author of four New York Times bestselling books focused on political science, philosophy, and cultural critique.
Trump has long praised Bruce's political instincts and communication skills. Following his 2024 election victory, he appointed her as State Department Spokesperson, calling her a "highly respected political analyst" and "one of the strongest Conservative voices" in the country.
In a January post, Trump had written, "It is my great honour to announce that Tammy Bruce will be joining our incredible Nominee for United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, as Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State. Tammy is a highly respected political analyst who understood the power and importance of 'MAGA' early on. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science at the University of Southern California and, after being a liberal activist in the 1990s, saw the lies and fraud of the Radical Left, and quickly became one of the strongest Conservative voices on Radio and Television."
Bruce's nomination to the UN role will require the Senate's confirmation.

Bruce added that the recent peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan 'follows negotiated peace arrangements between Cambodia and Thailand, Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India and Pakistan, Egypt and Ethiopia and Serbia and Kosovo.' US to end 'Dropbox' visa renewals from Sept 2: Students, workers to be hit
The United States will soon shut down its Interview Waiver Programme—better known as the 'Dropbox' facility—for most non-immigrant visas, including work and student categories. The change takes effect from September 2, 2025, and will force the majority of applicants to attend in-person interviews, even if they have a clean visa history. For years, Dropbox allowed eligible travellers to skip the face-to-face interview and submit documents at a designated location instead. It was a faster, less stressful option, particularly for Indian professionals and students. But as part of US President Donald Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act', signed on July 4, the policy is being rolled back in the name of 'enhancing security' and tightening screening. Immigration attorney Emily Neumann warned, 'If you're planning international travel or visa renewal this autumn, don't assume you're eligible for interview waiver (Dropbox) processing anymore. The State Department is ending waiver eligibility for most visa categories, including H-1B, L-1, F-1, and J-1.' What is changing under the new policy • Most interview waivers for visa renewals, including H-1B, H-4, L1, F, M, O1 and J, will end. • Children under 14 and seniors over 79 will no longer qualify. • Only certain diplomatic or official visas—A, G, NATO and TECRO—remain eligible. • A narrow set of B-1/B-2 tourist and business visa renewals can still avoid interviews, but only under strict criteria. • Even if you qualify, a consular officer can still require an interview. Wait times, backlogs and delays are expected through the autumn and holiday seasons.' Reddy added, 'Anyone in the United States on valid status but with an expired visa—or whose most recent visa was in a different category—should be cautious about travelling. These individuals will now need an in-person interview before re-entering the US, and given the risk of delays or denials, non-essential travel should be avoided.' Steps to prepare for the change • Begin the DS-160 application early and pay the MRV fee promptly. • Gather all supporting documents in advance. • Monitor the website of your local US embassy or consulate for updates. • Allow extra time for both interview booking and visa processing. • Employers should adjust onboarding or travel plans for staff accordingly. Who can still use the interview waiver A narrow set of applicants will retain interview waiver eligibility: • Diplomatic and official visas: A-1, A-2, C-3 (except attendants/servants), G-1 to G-4, NATO-1 to NATO-6, and TECRO E-1. • Certain B-1/B-2 tourist and business visa or Border Crossing Card renewals—only if the previous visa was full-validity, expired within the last 12 months, was issued when the applicant was over 18, and is being renewed in the same category in the country of nationality or residence, with no prior refusals or ineligibility. War crime: Israel, Russian armed forces accused of sexual violence; UN issues notice
Representational image (AFP) UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres put Israel and Russia on notice, warning that they could be added next year to a UN list of parties 'credibly suspected' of committing sexual violence in conflict zones. In his annual report to the UN security council, Guterres expressed grave concern over credible reports of rape and other forms of sexual violance by Israeli armed and security forces against Palestinians in prisons, a detention centre, and a military base. UN-documented cases included genital violence, prolonged forced nudity, and repeated abusive strip searches. Guterres said Israel's refusal to grant UN monitors access made it difficult to fully assess patterns and urged the government to end such acts, investigate credible allegations, and allow monitoring. In March, UN-backed human rights experts accused Israel of systematically using sexual and gender-based violence. Israel's UN ambassador Danny Danon rejected the claims as 'baseless' and accused the UN of bias, saying the focus should be on Hamas's actions. In July 2024, nine Israeli soldiers were detained over the alleged sexual assault of a Palestinian prisoner at the Sde Teiman facility.
