The Citizen12 hours ago
LIMPOPO – Giyani police have arrested three men, aged between 26 and 38, in connection with a business robbery at a D2 store on Friday (August 15).
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says that authorities responded to a complaint after one suspect was reportedly cornered by community members.
'Upon arrival, officers apprehended a man wearing a police reflector jacket. Another man claimed his vehicle had been stolen, but later stated he did not want to open a case, alleging the vehicle was taken by a friend.'
Preliminary investigations revealed that the third suspect, a Constable from Thohoyandou Public Order Police (POP), along with the two men, had visited the store claiming to inspect expired food. There, they threatened the store owner and stole money from the till.
Community members intervened, capturing one suspect in the reflector jacket while the driver fled.
Police subsequently arrested all three suspects and recovered R1 020 in cash and the reflector jacket used during the robbery.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in Giyani Magistrate's Court on Monday. Investigations are ongoing.

Sentencing procedures in Christine Gumira murder case delayed

JOHANNESBURG - Sentencing procedures in the trial of three men found guilty of killing a woman outside the Wynberg Magistrate's Court have been delayed in the Western Cape High Court. Last week, Mandisi Mofu was convicted of Christine Gumira's murder. Mofu was the triggerman in the hit on Gumira as she was leaving the courthouse. His other accomplices, Lukhanyo Meme and Vuminkosi Vumene, have also been found guilty of conspiring with Mofu to carry out the hit. The trio made a brief appearance in the Western Cape High Court before Judge Andre le Grange adjourned proceedings for the accused's lawyers to consult with them. Both the defence and the prosecution are expected to present their final arguments before the court sentences Mandisi Mofu, Lukhanyo Meme and Vuminkosi Vumene. The State has already indicated that it will be arguing for a life sentence on Mofu, and maximum sentences for Mene and Vumene for helping Mofu carry out the hit. Gumira was a murder-accused-turned-State-witness. She was about to enter protective custody when she was murdered.
