Former Man United youngster set for Mason Greenwood reunion at Marseille after undergoing medical - five years after forward dedicated a goal celebration in his honour
Former Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes is poised to reunited with former team-mate Mason Greenwood as he prepares to join Marseille. Gomes has reportedly arrived in the French city with the England midfielder expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday. Last month, Gomes confirmed his departure from Lille this summer at the end of his contract, ending his five-year stay with the club. The 24-year-old, who has been capped four times by the Three Lions, left United in 2020 after failing to break into their first team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Multiple Premier League clubs - including West Ham and Tottenham were understood to have been keen on bringing him back to England. Gomes will again team up with Greenwood, with the duo having come through Man United 's academy together. Gomes had made just six appearances for Man United's senior team having come through the academy, with six coming alongside Greenwood. Greenwood celebrated a goal in tribute of Gomes back in 2020, after the midfielder left Man United on a free transfer. The forward had formed an 'A' with his hands after scoring in a 3-0 win against Brighton. Gomes had responded to the tribute on social media by writing 'No words! I love you bro. 'Special, special player, thanks for the dedicated goal.' The move will see Gomes play in the Champions League next season with Marseille, after Roberto De Zerbi's side finished as Ligue 1 runners-up. Greenwood had played a key role in Marseille's qualification as he ended as the joint top goalscorer in the French top flight. The forward and his family moved to Marseille last summer after he completed a £30million move from Man United. Greenwood joined the club following a season long loan spell at Spanish side Getafe last season. It was decided he would leave Man United after he was arrested in January 2022 before being charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour. Charges against Greenwood were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following the 'withdrawal of key witnesses and new material coming to light'.

Northamptonshire Police said it would "once again be delivering a robust policing operation in the run up to and during the race event".It said uniformed and plain-clothed police officers would be patrolling the circuit, the campsites and the surrounding road network. There will also be specialist officers at the site, including armed officers, search teams, disruption officers and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) units, it added. The force will also make use of facial recognition technology, having first used the software at the 2023 race. The technology works by using a camera to scan faces to match biometrics against those held on a watch and QR codes will be displayed to "clearly" mark where the live facial recognition is being used, the force added. Supt Basham, from Northamptonshire Police, said: "We are working closely with the event organisers, other emergency services and partner agencies as the event approaches, to ensure Formula 1 fans attending the event have a safe and enjoyable experience, and that anyone looking to commit a crime doesn't succeed."We have many years of experience in the policing of this event. However, this doesn't mean we can afford to be complacent and detailed and rigorous planning still takes place. "Each year brings its own challenges and the security measures in place will be as stringent as ever." Follow Northamptonshire news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.

Police have warned motor-racing fans hoping to attend the British Grand Prix next month to be on their guard for counterfeit tickets. Northamptonshire Police urged people to be aware of fake tickets being sold on social media platforms and also advised against coming to the event at Silverstone between 3 and 6 July without a ticket. The British Grand Prix is one of the UK's largest sporting events, with over 480,000 people expected to attend and concerts by singers Sam Fender, RAYE and Fatboy Slim. Live facial recognition technology, which has been used at the grand prix for the last two years, will be in operation again. It scans faces with a camera to match biometrics against those held on a watchlist for posing a danger to the public, such as those who have an outstanding warrant for their arrest. Supt Pete Basham, who will lead this year's policing operation, said: "I would urge people to be aware of potential counterfeit tickets being sold, particularly on social media platforms, and I would strongly advise against coming to the event if you don't have a ticket. "We are working closely with the event organisers, other emergency services and partner agencies as the event approaches, to ensure Formula 1 fans have a safe and enjoyable experience, and that anyone looking to commit a crime doesn't succeed."
