Man asks Ghaziabad municipal chief to foot bill for repairing Mercedes over waterlogging
A car owner from Vasundhara has sent a legal notice to the Ghaziabad municipal commissioner, asking the authority to foot the bill for repairing his car—around ₹16 lakh for fixing a Mercedes car damaged by waterlogging in Sahibabad on July 23— and another ₹5 lakh for mental agony and harassment.
HT has accessed a copy of the notice.
Municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Malik, in a statement issued on behalf of the Ghaziabad municipal corporation, termed it an attempt to tarnish the agency's image for personal gain. 'The photo of the vehicle shown by Shri Amit Kishore in his complaint, which has a Delhi number, clearly shows that there is no water even on the tyres. It has not been certified by any expert that the vehicle has broken down due to rain water logging. No other such case has been reported in the city,' the statement said.
The corporation said that they it has installed pump sets to drain water at waterlogging hot spots and that excess water has been drained timely.
The notice was sent by Amit Kishor, who said that he was on his way to Lajpat Nagar on July 23, when the car reportedly broke down at Shyam Park Extension, as it suffered damages due to heavy waterlogging on the road. Kishor owns a Mercedes GLA 200 D.
'There was heavy waterlogging on the road, and the drains were all choked due to heavy rains. I had to hire a tow van and send the car to Noida for repair. The survey for repairs is going on, and it is presently estimated at about ₹16 lakh. I have sent a legal notice to the municipal commissioner to compensate me for the repair and also for mental harassment I suffered on the road as I was stuck for about four hours,' Kishor said.
'It was not only me who suffered. There is a hospital near the spot and patients and ambulances were also facing issues due to waterlogging,' Kishor added.
In the notice, Kishor contended that illegal encroachments were allowed to flourish in public spaces, especially on public drains and open lands meant for water run-off. It also alleged that the encroachers were getting shielded.

Hungarian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton Says He's 'Useless' And Suggests A Driver Change At Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton called himself "absolutely useless" and suggested Ferrari should change drivers after he qualified 12th for the Hungarian Grand Prix and teammate Charles Leclerc took pole position. It was a new low in a difficult first season with Ferrari for seven-time Formula 1 champion Hamilton, who qualified outside the top 10 for the second race in a row. "I'm useless, absolutely useless," Hamilton told British broadcaster Sky Sports. "The team have no problem. You've seen the car's on pole. So they probably need to change driver." Hamilton had said "every time, every time" over the radio after he was eliminated in the second part of qualifying. That signified that "it's me every time," he clarified to Sky later. Hamilton had earlier seemed set to qualify 13th, and he was only promoted to 12th after the second part of qualifying had finished. That was because Kimi Antonelli's time was struck out after it was noticed the Mercedes rookie had gone outside the track limits. It was the second week running that Hamilton had been frustrated with his qualifying performance. He qualified 18th for the sprint race in Belgium last week after a spin, and 16th for the Grand Prix when one of his times was struck out. Still, Hamilton delivered one of his best drives of the year, cutting through the field on a wet track, and eventually finished seventh. After a move from Mercedes which stunned F1 last year, Hamilton has yet to finish on the podium in a Grand Prix race with Ferrari, with a best finish of fourth. He did win a sprint race in China in March, but a double disqualification for technical infringements on Hamilton and Leclerc's cars in the Chinese Grand Prix the next day required a time-consuming rethink of Ferrari's race setups. Leclerc is fifth in the standings, only one position ahead of Hamilton, but has five podium finishes in 2005. In Sunday's race, he'll aim to give Ferrari its first F1 win since October. Last week, Hamilton said it was "crunch time" and revealed he's been holding a series of meetings with Ferrari executives to discuss improvements and ensure he has more of a say in how the team develops its car for the sweeping regulation changes coming in 2026.

ED Issues Look Out Notice Against Anil Ambani: Report
A SEBI report allegedly found that R‑Infra, a Reliance Group company, had moved around Rs. 10,000 crore to other group companies through an undisclosed private entity without declaring it as a related party. New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a lookout circular against businessman Anil Ambani, managing director of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani (ADA) Group, according to a report by Hindustan Times. The agency is investigating allegations of loan fraud worth thousands of crores by his companies, sources told HT on August 1. The issuance of a lookout circular, or LOC, means that Ambani can no longer leave India without the permission of courts. As per the HT report, Ambani has also been summoned for questioning under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on August 5. 'We have issued a LOC against Anil Ambani and issued summons to him on August 5 asking him to appear in Delhi for recording his statement under the PMLA in the loan fraud probe,' HT quoted an officer in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as saying. The unnamed source also said that Ambani would likely be asked about various loans based on findings by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), a statutory body under the government of India that regulates securities and the commodity market in the country. The HT report said that the ED searched the premises of 50 companies and 25 people, including senior executives, associated with the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group companies, last week. According to officials, the ED is looking into alleged financial irregularities and collective loan diversion amounting to more than Rs. 17,000 crore by multiple companies under the Group including Reliance Infrastructure (R Infra). According to The New Indian Express, a report by SEBI allegedly disclosed via ED sources accused R‑Infra of moving approximately Rs. 10,000 crore to group companies through an undisclosed private entity named CLE Pvt Ltd – without declaring it as a related party, possibly to avoid approvals from shareholders and audit panels – under the guise of inter‑corporate deposits, equity investments and corporate guarantees. According to the report, these transactions allegedly span across the financial years of 2013 to 2023, with total exposure to CLE reported at Rs. 8,302 crore by SEBI, and write‑offs reaching Rs 10,110 crore during the financial years (FY) 2017–21. Reliance ADA Group rejects allegations The Reliance ADA Group has, however, rejected these allegations, according to the TNIE report. A spokesperson of the Reliance Group said in a statement that the allegation regarding the diversion of ₹10,000 crore to an undisclosed party was a 10-year-old matter and that the company had stated in its financial statements that its exposure was only around Rs. 6,500 crore, the HT report said. As per the statement, R Infra had already publicly disclosed this matter on February 9 this year. 'Through mandatory mediation proceedings conducted by a retired Supreme Court judge and the mediation award filed before the Hon'ble Bombay High Court, Reliance Infrastructure arrived at a settlement to recover its 100 per cent exposure of ₹6,500 crore,' HT quoted the statement as saying. Per the report, the company also claimed that Anil Ambani had not been on the Board of Reliance Infrastructure for more than three years, since March 2022. The ED is also looking into allegations of illegal loan diversion of approximately Rs. 3,000 crore provided by Yes Bank to companies under the Reliance Group, Reliance Home Finance Limited and Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd, between 2017 and 2019. According to the HT report, ED officials had stated last week that Yes Bank promoters received money in their accounts just before the loan was granted to these companies.
