
Oman: SME Committee discusses initiatives to support entrepreneurs
Muscat: The Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Committee of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry convened to discuss various initiatives and projects aimed at supporting the entrepreneurial sector.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the concept for the "Tamkeen & Sumo" Exhibition in Riyadh , which is being organized by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Riyadh Chamber. Discussions focused on the targeted sectors and proposed adding new fields, including *health, training, media, and marketing. The committee also emphasized the importance of establishing clear criteria for selecting participating companies, with a focus on growth-oriented and scalable businesses.
The committee also discussed a proposal to hold a forum for SME support during the Dhofar Autumn Festival 2025, scheduled for August. Around 60 enterprises from different governorates in Oman are expected to participate, with selection managed through the Chamber's branches in the governorates. Coordination with Dhofar Municipality will ensure the festival's organization and the selection of a strategic location to attract families and visitors.
Additionally, the meeting covered updates on existing initiatives, including the "Istidama" platform, the "Istiqdam" platform , and the Food Security Project aimed at supporting 20 small and medium enterprises by cultivating desert lemons over an area of 400 acres .
Sheikh Ahmed bin Amer Al Musalhi, Chairman of the Committee, stated that the committee is committed to adopting sustainable initiatives that contribute to the development of strong and competitive SMEs at both local and regional levels. He emphasized that these initiatives aim to provide genuine platforms for growth and expansion, focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, and ease of access to markets and investment opportunities, ultimately enhancing the role of SMEs in advancing the national economy.

Oman: Renewed visual identity to empower entrepreneurship
Muscat: In order to empower the entrepreneurship sector, the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) has launched its new visual identity, with the support of Shaikh Suba'a bin Hamdan al Saadi, Secretary-General of the Secretariat-General of National Celebrations. The Authority has emerged as an entity with the goal of supporting and developing the sector, contributing to the achievement of Oman Vision 2040 which aims for a sustainable, knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy. Recognising this pivotal role, a modern corporate visual identity was developed to reflect the Authority's vision, mission and core values, portraying it as a supportive and enabling entity for small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs in the Sultanate of Oman. Halima al Zari, Chairperson of ASMED, stated, "We are pleased to launch the new visual identity. This is a testament to the Royal directives to make small and medium enterprises the foundation of the Omani economy. We will continue on this path in collaboration with our partners, embarking on a new journey of giving, belonging and innovation to support entrepreneurs for a prosperous economic future in the Sultanate of Oman and to achieve Oman Vision 2040." It is common for organisations to update their visual identity, with 75 per cent of companies redesigning their brand since 2020 in response to rapid changes in the market and public behaviour. The Authority's visual identity change was necessary to keep up with the fast-paced transformations in the business environment, improve communication with all sectors of the public, enhance digital interaction and support expansion and growth. Largest edition of Automechanika Riyadh underscores the Middle East's position as a global automotive hub
The event hosted over 450 exhibitors from more than 30 countries, with China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, KSA, and the UAE accounting for the top five exhibiting nations The event's knowledge-sharing platform, Automechanika Academy, gathered thought leaders from around the region while the latest industry innovations were presented across the show floor Riyadh, KSA: Automechanika Riyadh 2025, Saudi Arabia's leading trade show for the automotive aftermarket industry, concluded last month at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre (RICEC) with a 35% year-on-year increase in attendance. The event showcased over 450 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and highlighted the Middle East's position as a global hub for the automotive industry. The domestic market represented 90% of visitors, with international markets accounting for 10% of attendees. As Saudi Arabia accelerates progress under Vision 2030, major projects such as Lucid Motors' new plant in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) and the launch of Ceer, Saudi's first electric vehicle brand, reflect the Kingdom's commitment to localising the automotive value chain. The wider MENA region is also contributing significantly, with Morocco targeting an annual production of one million vehicles by 2025 and the UAE strengthening its role in aftermarket services and re-exports. In his keynote address at Automechanika Riyadh, Dr Faisal Al-Kadi, CEO of Al Kadi Commerce & Industry, underscored the importance of fostering strong local and international partnerships to drive sustainable growth. This was echoed in a high-level panel discussion on 'Building the Middle East's automotive hub', which examined supply chain development, certification frameworks and the role of collaboration across sectors in supporting the region's transformation. During the event, industry voices, including Ben Stewart, Supply Chain Director, Lucid MENA and Aftab Ahmed, Chief Advisor, National Industrial Development Centre, highlighted the critical need for government and private sector cooperation to create a robust, standardised, sustainable supply chain ecosystem. Discussions highlighted the importance of certification, localisation and long-term industrial planning as key pillars for establishing trust and competitiveness in the regional market. UAE ranks first globally in telecom infrastructure, digital government framework, digital content
27 May 2025 09:30 DUBAI (WAM) The UAE has secured the top global ranking in the telecommunications infrastructure index, the institutional framework for digital government, and the digital content index, according to the second edition of the 'State of Digital Transformation Report'. The report was released by the UAE's Higher Committee for Government Digital Transformation during the recent Digital Readiness report highlights the UAE government's digital achievements across 12 key sectors, including the economy, finance, human resources, health, education, community development, culture and youth, immigration and foreign affairs, security and justice, infrastructure and energy, logistics, and the bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future in the UAE Government and Chair of the Committee, said digital readiness and transformation are central to the UAE leadership's vision, aiming to eliminate bureaucracy and enhance quality of life through noted the report tracks major digital achievements over the past year, showcasing the UAE's leadership in global competitiveness indices related to digital governance. In the economic sector, 5.2 million tax transactions were completed digitally, alongside 316,800 certificates of origin and 64,100 trademark registration and renewal finance sector processed 8,300 vendor registrations, 2,500 financial market employee accreditations, and 1,000 foreign investment fund resources saw 13.2 million work permit applications and 8 million employment contract transactions, with 1.2 million training hours delivered through the 'Jahiz' digital learning health, 2 million prescriptions were filled using robotic pharmacies, 1 million chest X-rays were conducted using artificial intelligence, and 437,900 remote medical consultations were held. The education sector delivered digital learning to 1.4 million individuals and processed 445,700 university course services answered 115,600 digital inquiries and completed 243,800 zakat and donation transactions, as well as 125,700 digital requests for fatwas and zakat calculations. In justice and security, 4.2 million traffic fine payments, 1.5 million vehicle registrations, and 417,800 criminal record certificate applications were processed identity and residency sector handled 4.7 million Emirates ID renewals, 1.6 million private sector residency permit renewals, and 596,200 digital document attestations.
