Heartbroken family demands answers after Maryland man found dead in Bahamas
The Brief
A 23-year-old man from Bowie, Maryland, was found dead in the Bahamas Saturday.
His family alleges that he was beaten to death, although officials have not confirmed this.
FOX 5 has reached out to the Bahamian authorities and the resort. We're awaiting their response.
WASHINGTON - A Bowie family is searching for answers after they say their loved one died while on vacation in the Bahamas. They believe the circumstances surrounding his death are suspicious.
According to the family, 23-year-old tourist Dinari Mcalmont died 12 hours after landing in the Bahamas with his parents. His lifeless body was reportedly found Saturday morning on the shoreline of Paradise Island near Nassau.
What we know
Mcalmont's family left their Bowie neighborhood on Friday and they were supposed to return on Monday. Instead, Dinari's parents remain on the island and Dinari is reportedly dead.
In an emotional interview, mom Michelle McAlmont told Eyewitness News Bahamas that when she identified the remains of her 23-year-old son, his face was "traumatized" and he appeared beaten to death.
"They beat my son down in the sand," she said, noting that his hair was full of it. "I need justice for my baby. I need justice."
Authorities are reportedly waiting for the postmortem examination before providing more information to the public.
The backstory
FOX 5 was told the family was staying at the Atlantis resort and Dinari left his parents during dinner to grab a coat and explore the resort. Family members say hours later staff members came to the parents' room inquiring about Dinari's whereabouts.
When they discovered his location-sharing services went inactive, Dinari's parents reportedly searched the resort. Family members say when they didn't find him, they made a missing person's flier.
Resort staff returned to Dinari's parents' room again to tell his parents he was dead.
What's next
FOX 5 has reached out to the Bahamian authorities and the resort. We're awaiting their response.
Bahamas news station Eyewitness News reports authorities are not classifying this case as a murder and an autopsy is underway.
The family tells us they are searching for an attorney who specializes in international relations.

California DMV warns of new vehicle registration support scam
Above: FOX 5 report on how to get a REAL ID in California. SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The California Department of Motor Vehicles is urging drivers to be wary of a new online scam offering assistance to renew vehicle registration at a discounted rate. DMV officials say the latest scam uses social media posts to advertise help that could save people up to 50% on vehicle registration renewal fees. Those who respond are asked to give their license plate, Vehicle Identification Number and the customer's full name, as well as to make a payment through an online platform like CashApp. System error may have affected traffic court notices in California. Are you impacted? According to the department, requests for these details or payments will never be made through unofficial channels. They further encourage drivers to only conduct business with the DMV or with an authorized business through the Business Partner Automation Program. A list of businesses that participate in this program can be found on the DMV's website. An example of what the advertisement looks like can be found below. 'The safest way to renew your vehicle registration is directly through the official DMV website,' DMV Director Steve Gordon said in a release earlier this month. 'We do not offer discounts, and we never conduct official business through social media or other unofficial channels.' To avoid falling victim to this scam and others that have been circulating in recent months, the DMV encourages Californians to take these precautions: Steer clear of offers offering discounted DMV services — the department does not offer special deals through unauthorized third-parties or on social media. Do not respond to unsolicited or suspicious texts. Verify the source if you are unsure whether something you come across is official or if you have concerns. Officials encourage Californians do this by contacting the department's customer service team at 800-777-0133. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Mother of VA teen killed in shooting speaks out as jury deliberates fate of alleged gunman
The Brief The mother of a teen shot and killed in Herndon spoke exclusively with FOX 5 as the suspect accused in her son's murder awaits a verdict. Jury deliberations started at 12 p.m. on Tuesday and the jury could still have a long way to go. The suspect, 18-year-old Ismael Cruz Del Cid, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and using a firearm in commission of a felony. EXCLUSIVE - The mother of a 14-year-old that was shot and killed spoke exclusively to FOX 5 as a jury deliberated the fate of her son's alleged killer. FOX 5's Tisha Lewis spoke exclusively to the mother of 14-year-old Michai Malave. What we know Jury deliberations started at 12 p.m. on Tuesday and the jury could still have a long way to go. In this type of case, jury deliberation can last anywhere between 24 to 36 hours. This all comes after 18-year-old Ismael Cruz Del Cid, on the left, underwent a jury trial after admitting to the fatal shooting that took place in March 2024. The shooting happened on the 1300 block of Coppermine Road in Herndon. Del Cid is accused of fatally shooting Malave and another teen who survived. Investigators say this was not a random shooting and that Del Cid and the victims knew each other. Attorneys for the defendant claimed it was self-defense but Malave was not armed. The Commonwealth Attorney says the shooting was pre-mediated murder. What they're saying His family says they're taking it one day at a time. They just want this trauma to end. Malave's mother tells FOX 5 she's doing her best to navigate the grief and the pain that comes with losing a child. "I'm not sure how we're navigating it other than with the grace of God and just family. I'm in other grief groups with mothers who have lost their children the same way and that helps me get through. I'm mostly still in the shock of disbelief sometimes. A part of my mind will believe that he's still at a friend's house and it will hit me that he's gone and it's just terrible," said Jenna Malave, Michai Malave's mother. What's next The jury will resume deliberations at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Del Cid is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and using a firearm in commission of a felony.
