Mission 2027: VRAS Charts Aggressive Roadmap to Achieve Separate Vidarbha State
1 2 Nagpur: The Vidarbha Rajya Andolan Samiti (VRAS) has intensified its campaign for a separate Vidarbha with the launch of Mission 2027, aimed at securing statehood by the end of 2027. In a charged gathering at Samvidhan Square on Saturday, staunch statehood supporters vowed to escalate their struggle through district-level protests, aggressive public outreach, and pressure on the Centre to grant statehood to Vidarbha under Article 3 of the Constitution. Drawing inspiration from the Quit India Movement, agitators told anti-Vidarbhaites to "leave the region." VRAS leaders said they would leave no stone unturned — from legal interventions and mass rallies to policy papers and lobbying — to achieve a separate Vidarbha by the deadline. "The state's revenue income is substantial, yet it runs a deficit every year. Maharashtra already carries a heavy debt. In this scenario, Vidarbha's irrigation backlog and pending dams will never be completed," said Youth Front president Mukesh Masurkar, making a strong case for statehood. Masurkar cited the Jigaon–Takli dam in Buldhana district, approved 30 years ago at ₹699 crore but now costing several thousand crore, with some land acquisition still pending. "Without independent governance, the region will remain trapped in farmer suicides, malnutrition deaths, migration, and unemployment — all fuelling youth unrest," he warned. The event culminated in an oath-taking ceremony, where activists pledged unwavering commitment to Mission 2027. The roadmap includes intensifying grassroots campaigns, uniting Vidarbha's youth, women, and farmer groups, expanding national-level alliances, and confronting political resistance head-on. " For us, Vidarbha statehood is not a dream — it's a 2027 commitment," VRAS leaders declared, signalling that the next two years will be defined by relentless action to turn the long-standing aspiration into reality. VRAS president Wamanrao Chatap, economist Srinivas Khandewale, Women's Front president Ranjanatai Mamarde, East Vidarbha president Arunbhau Kedar, West Vidarbha president P. R. Rajput, and other senior leaders participated in the protest along with city and district unit presidents. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Rahul, oppn parties acting as tools of foreign powers: BJP
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi NEW DELHI: BJP on Saturday accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and other opposition parties of being part of a conspiracy by anti-India forces abroad to weaken the country by defaming its armed forces and institutions. "Rahul Gandhi, Congress, and INDIA alliance parties are acting as tools of foreign powers," BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi told reporters. Speaking a day after IAF chief A P Singh shared photographs and video footage to assert that India had downed six Pakistani planes and damaged a few others on the ground, Trivedi said that Rahul, who had consistently lied about Operation Sindoor , had slipped into intriguing silence since armed forces presented the facts to the public. "The people who have often projected invaders as heroes are questioning the bravery of our armed forces during Operation Sindoor," said the Rajya Sabha MP. He said the evidence shared by the IAF chief had exposed Congress's lies. Trivedi said the leader of opposition had repeatedly been caught lying in court and to the public, making false claims about el ec tions and voter lists. "Today, EC has once again exposed one of his false claims about vote fraud by asking him to back his claims by swearing by them on affidavit," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Here's The Price of a 1-Day Walk-in Shower In 2025 Homebuddy Learn More Undo "Rahul Gandhi, the 'perpetual youth' of Indian politics and a leader who only speaks nonsense, has degraded the post of leader of opposition. He has been continuously demeaning all constitutional institutions. Now he is trying to vent his frustration of losing power by making unnecessary, baseless, and false allegations against EC," he added. Trivedi dismissed Rahul's allegation that 1 lakh fraudulent voters took part in the general elections to Bangalore Central seat, asking, "Where did he get the number '1 lakh' if EC didn't provide the data?" The spokesperson also claimed Rahul had appealed to foreign powers to interfere in India's democracy.

Israel kills Al Jazeera journalist in Gaza City, says he headed a Hamas cell
Israel's military said it killed Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al Sharif, whom it claimed headed a Hamas cell, in a strike on Gaza City on Sunday. Palestinians hold the body of Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif, who Israel's military and Al Jazeera say was killed by an Israeli strike, in Gaza City, August 11, 2025.(REUTERS) The Qatari broadcaster said three other of its journalists were also killed, and an official at nearby Shifa Hospital said there were seven people killed in total. "Anas Al Sharif served as the head of a terrorist cell in the Hamas terrorist organization and was responsible for advancing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF (Israeli) troops," the Israeli military said in a statement. Palestinian journalists' groups condemned the killings. A press freedom group and a UN expert previously warned that Al Sharif's life was in danger due to his reporting from Gaza. UN Special Rapporteur Irene Khan said last month that Israel's claims against him were unsubstantiated. In July, the Committee to Protect Journalists urged the international community to protect Al Shar
