Jonathan Anderson makes Dior history with dual role leading men's and women's lines
PARIS, June 2 — Jonathan Anderson will become the first designer to head both the women's and men's lines at Dior, the French fashion house's parent company said today.
The Northern Irish designer was named as head of the women's line, LVMH said in a post on social media, following last week's departure of Italian peer Maria Grazia Chiuri.
Anderson had already been named as artistic director of Dior's men's collection in April, and will now become the first person to run both collections at the iconic French brand, the second-biggest in LVMH's fashion stable.
Anderson, 40, quit Loewe in March month after more than a decade in which he turned around the fortunes of the heritage Spanish brand.
An influential tastemaker with many A-list fans, Anderson made the previously rather sleepy label, best known for its handbags, hot.
Fashion mogul Bernard Arnault, whose LVMH conglomerate owns both Dior and Loewe, broke the news at a shareholders' meeting in Paris.
There had been much speculation that Anderson, renowned for his creative flights of fancy, might take over both Dior's men's and women's collections, which some observers had seen as needing fresh impetus. — AFP

The win moved Spain to 15 points from six games, five ahead of England. England captain Leah Williamson was disappointed with the result and noted that there was work for her side to do ahead of the Euros. "We didn't have any real threat. Under that much pressure against the top sides, that's what happens. We just have to be better on the ball and find solutions quicker. A great lesson," she said. "We know what we are capable of. The game changes constantly, we have to adapt a bit quicker. We have time to build and time to push ourselves before the start of the tournament." (AP pic) PARIS : Four-time champion Iga Swiatek of Poland swept aside Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 6-1, 7-5 on a windy day at the French Open today to earn a semi-final spot and stay in the hunt for a record-breaking victory in Paris The 24-year-old, who accepted a one-month doping ban late last year, is looking to become the first woman in the professional era since 1968 to win four consecutive titles in Paris. Although she failed to win a title going into the French Open this season, she looks to have rediscovered her remarkable clay court form in Paris. She will next play world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a mouth-watering semi-final after the Belarusian beat China's Zheng Qinwen in straight sets. 'I should have had better intensity in the beginning of the second set,' Swiatek said in a post-match interview. 'When I saw my intensity go low I got it high again. I am happy I did it at the end of the set. 'Against Aryna it is always a challenge. She has a game for every surface. I have to do the work, be brave with my shots and go for it. She is having a great season.' 'I will not lie. It will be a tough match but am happy for the challenge,' she said. The Pole is now on a 26-match winning streak at the French Open, following her title three-peat between 2022-24 to add to her 2020 crown. Top seed Sabalenka battles past Zheng to reach French Open semis

(AP pic) PARIS : World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka ended Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen's winning streak on the Paris clay with a straight-sets victory today to seal herself a spot in the French Open semi-finals. The top seed from Belarus won through 7-6(7/3), 6-3 against the Chinese eighth seed in just under two hours on Court Philippe Chatrier. She next plays either three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland or Ukraine's Elina Svitolina for a place in the final. The 27-year-old fought back after struggling in the first set against Zheng, who had beaten her in the last eight on clay in Rome last month, extending her record against the Chinese player to 7-1. 'The last tournament I was pretty exhausted,' said Sabalenka. 'Today I was more fresh I was ready to battle, to fight and give everything. 'Honestly, I was actually glad that I lost that match because I needed a little break before Roland Garros.' Today, Sabalenka once again got the upper hand over Zheng, who had been on a winning streak of 10 matches on the Paris clay after her run to Olympic gold last year. Zheng broke and led 4-2 in the first set. But numerous unforced errors – 31 in total – allowed the Belarusian to come back. 'I was just more fresh today and I was ready to battle, fight and leave everything that I have on court to get this win. I think that's about it.' Sabalenka advances to her 11th Major semi-final overall, and her second in Paris following her run in 2023, which ended in a three-set loss to Czech Karolina Muchova. 'I think we are all here for one reason, everyone wants that beautiful trophy,' said Madrid Open winner Sabalenka. 'I'm really glad that I have another opportunity, another semi-final, to do better than I did last time. I'm ready to go out there and fight and compete for every point.' A three-time Grand Slam winner – winning the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024 and the reigning US Open champion – Sabalenka is chasing her sixth Grand Slam final berth.
