Bills RB James Cook not interested in blaming officials after AFC championship loss to Chiefs
Unlike a lot of people, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook isn't blaming the officiating for his team's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week.
Speaking on the "Kickin' It With Dee" podcast, Cook was asked how he and his team mentally handles the idea of the refs working against them. He responded by lightly rejecting the premise:
'At the end of the day, you've got to come in there ready to go. F*** that ref shit. You feel me? Straight up, you got to come in there ready to go, ready to play. Don't give a ref nothing to call.'
The Chiefs receiving favorable officiating due to their status as the NFL's top team and their employment of superstar Patrick Mahomes has been a narrative for years, but seems to have hit a fever pitch in recent weeks. Their win over the Bills in the AFC championship game was particularly controversial, most notably when a questionable spot cost them on a fourth down early in the fourth quarter.

There was another questionable call earlier in the game involving a Xavier Worthy catch that appeared to hit the ground. And that was after a divisional round game which had its own issues. Unlike Cook, the Houston Texans had some complaints about that one.
Unsurprisingly, the Chiefs haven't been particularly apologetic. Linebacker Drue Tranquill tweeted that anyone who wanted to blame the refs for their win could "kick rocks."
It feels almost inevitable that similar complaints will come out at the first close call of Super Bowl LIX. If anything, Cook's answer could be seen as a warning to the Philadelphia Eagles: Don't give a ref nothing to call.

Cowboys Trade Rumor for Bills RB James Cook Earns 'Absurd' Label from Insider
Cowboys Trade Rumor for Bills RB James Cook Earns 'Absurd' Label from Insider originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - James Cook is the only member of the Buffalo Bills who is staying away from OTAs, as he has been in a contract dispute with the franchise dating back to the end of the 2024 season regarding a potential extension. Advertisement And there are predictions now ... A prediction of a Buffalo disaster in a "gruesome'' picture painting by ESPN's Adam Schefter ... And a prediction of a Dallas Cowboys connection to the star that our NFL insider Mike Fisher labels "absurd.'' Cook wants to become one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL. He certainly has an impressive resume, posting back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons and leading the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024. Still, the Bills have been tentative to give the two-time Pro Bowler a salary of $15 million, as he has requested on social media. This dispute could in theory lead to Cook's time as a Bill nearing the end, either through a trade or Cook hitting free agency after the upcoming season. Advertisement Said Schefter on his podcast: 'It bears watching because you've got a guy who's unhappy with this contractual situation, who has basically disconnected himself from the organization, the city, put his house up for sale. I don't think we'll be seeing him in Buffalo anytime soon, and again, the start of training camp will be the next critical moment. If they don't have a deal done there by then, does James Cook show up for training camp?'' We think Schefter is overreacting here ... but not as much as Pro Football Network, which is proposing a trade that would bring the Buffalo running back to Dallas. "Cook offers proven production and the ability to carry a full workload. In an offense led by Dak Prescott and supported by a high-powered receiving corps, Cook could become the featured back Dallas needs,'' PFN writes. "The Cowboys also have the cap space to offer Cook an extension if he becomes a long-term fit.'' Responds Fish: "I don't think PFN exactly has the pulse of the situation here. Dallas will not - under virtually any circumstance - pay $15 million per year for a running back. to pretend otherwise is absurd.'' Advertisement The Cowboys are presently hoping some combination of Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue gets the job done at tailback. There is another problem here: The Bills are trying to win a Super Bowl. And their backups (Ty Johnson and Ray Davis) are not equipped to do that on Cook's level. So Schefter's panic and PFN's silliness aside, the Bills and Cook truly need each other here. And just because Dallas could use a Cook-like back doesn't mean it's even close to the realm of possibility here. Analyst Predicts Breakout From Bills' 2nd-Year Receiver
Analyst Predicts Breakout From Bills' 2nd-Year Receiver originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Scouts were split when the Buffalo Bills drafted Keon Coleman in the second round of the 2024 draft. Some believed that Coleman's size and speed was a deadly combination for the Bills and quarterback Josh Allen. Others had concerns about his consistency as a receiver, and injury problems in college. Advertisement After one season in the league, it seems that each side of the aisle has a point when it comes to the 22-year-old. Coleman missed four games during the season due to a wrist injury, and only caught 29 passes. Despite the low catch total, he averaged over 19 yards per reception - an outrageous mark and one of the highest in football last season. Heading into Year 2 of his NFL journey, one particular analyst believes that a breakout is coming for a fully healthy and energized Coleman. Pro Football Sports Network's Jacob Infante believes second-year wideout Keon Coleman is the breakout player to watch in Buffalo. Advertisement "Amidst a loaded 2024 wide receiver draft class, Keon Coleman had a pretty low volume with just 29 catches," Infante said. "But he made the most of his targets, finishing third in the NFL with 19.2 yards per catch and scoring four touchdowns. 'The Buffalo Bills signed Josh Palmer and Elijah Moore in free agency, but Coleman projects higher than in 2025. A big-bodied target with tremendous ball skills and physicality, expect him to put up bigger numbers in Year 2.' Allen is a league MVP throwing players like Coleman the football. So long as that continues, the Florida State product should be able to excel in his second year in the offense. Perhaps an improved year from Coleman can get people to stop criticizing Buffalo for gifting the Kansas City Chiefs Xavier Worthy just a few picks before.
