USAID looking for lawyers to target employees who spoke to media
The U.S. Agency for International Development is in the process of hiring lawyers to carry out investigations into employees who had "unauthorized communications with the media" — like speaking to the press about their mass firings — according to a job posting.
"Lawyers will be expected to conduct investigations into general employee misconduct, and more specifically violations of various federal government regulations and policies, such as, for example, rules governing unauthorized communications with the media," the hiring post reads, according to CBS News.
The American Foreign Service Association, a union representing USAID employees, told the broadcaster it believes that the post is genuine.
The job post says the attorneys will be tasked with defending the agency against "over 200 grievances filed by employees."
A State Department spokesperson said it does not "comment on any matters related to personnel or litigation."
The job posting tracks with an email that was sent to some USAID employees last week informing them that they were under "administrative inquiry" because they had "engaged with the press/media without authorization."
The messages went on to threaten "disciplinary action" that includes being fired.
USAID was an early target for X and Tesla CEO Elon Musk 's work as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency. Under Musk's guidance, the organization was effectively shuttered. On February 2, Musk — who has since stepped away from a public-facing role in DOGE after Tesla stocks and sales tanked — called USAID a "criminal organization" and said it was "time for it to die."
President Donald Trump gave a speech later that month bragging that his administration had "effectively eliminated the U.S. Agency for International Development."
As of the end of March, USAID had made clear it planned to fire the majority of the agency's employees. Their official firings are expected to occur by July1 or September 2.
Randy Chester, the vice president of the American Foreign Service Association, questioned why DOGE and the Trump administration were bothering to harass former employees who were speaking out.
"The posting raises the question of why? What is the agency's end game if they are successful?" he told CBS News. "What more could they do to someone who will be separating from the agency? It seems like the administration is scrambling."
Chester called the Trump administration's threats "total intimidation."

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office announced they would be removing road blocks and reopening roads after hundreds of law enforcement personnel search dozes of structures and the forest. 'However, we ask the public to remain vigilant at they venture back out to the recreation areas of Chelan County,' the sheriff's office said. 'We ask that the public help continue to help us in this search. Please review your doorbell cameras and security cameras for signs of Mr. Decker. In the affidavit, Deputy U.S. Marshal Keegan Stanley wrote that Decker made several searches on May 26, including: 'how does a person move to Canada,' 'how to relocate to Canada' and 'jobs Canada.' The father, who remains on the run, then visited the website 'Find a job - Stanley detailed. Authorities started searching for Decker's daughters after they failed to return home from a scheduled visit with him on May 30 His daughters' remains were also found 'relatively close to the Canadian border and approximately 11 miles from the Pacific Crest Trail, a well-established trail that leads directly to Canada,' per the affidavit. Decker, who is wanted on three counts each of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping, also 'has training in navigation, woodland/mountainous terrain, long distance movements, survival and numerous other disciplines needed to be able to flee,' the affidavit continued. 'Prior to the above alleged crimes, Decker frequently recreated in outdoor, woodland and mountainous areas throughout the Eastern District of Washington and surrounding states,' it read. 'Amongst other outdoorsman activities, Decker frequently engaged in hiking, camping, survival skill practice, hunting and even lived off the grid in the backwoods for approximately 2.5 months on one occasion.'

British ‘service person' arrested on suspicion of ‘raping' woman near army training camp in Kenya
A BRITISH "service person" has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman near an army training camp in Kenya. The alleged rape happened last month, with the man arrested after a group of soldiers visited a bar in the area near the town of Nanyuki, BBC reports. 2 2 Military cops have questioned the bar owner and security guards who were working the night of the incident that occurred close to the British Army Training Unit Kenya (Batuk), The Sunday Times reports. According to the paper, the bar owner said: "They [soldiers] like this place and when I meet some of them in the supermarkets, they tell me they have been banned from coming here. "Sometimes they get too drunk and I drop them at the gate for free." An investigation is being carried out by the UK military police from the Defence Serious Crime Unit. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed in a statement that a "service person" had been arrested in Kenya. A MoD spokesperson said in a statement: "We can confirm the arrest of a Service person in Kenya. "As the matter is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Defence Serious Crime Command, we will not comment further." A UK-Kenya defence cooperation agreement allows thousands of Brit soldiers to train in the East African country every year. About 200 UK troops are based there permanently to train Kenyan soldiers. Some Kenyan people have complained for a long time about the soldiers behaviour alongside the atmosphere around their training camp near the town of Nanyuki. There was an outcry over the 2012 death of 21-year-old Agnes Wanjiru, who was last seen alive leaving a bar with British troops near their training camp. Her body was tragically later found in a septic tank. Wanjirus family has campaigned for years for the suspected perpetrator, a serving British soldier at the time, to be charged. In April, UK Defense Secretary John Healey met with Wanjirus grieving family in Kenya and vowed to help the family secure the justice they deserve. The British Army has launched an inquiry into allegations of unacceptable behavior by UK personnel in Kenya. The MoD said in a statement that all British personnel in the country "have clear direction about how to behave, on and off duty, must complete mandatory training and attend compulsory briefings on conduct." Ed the zebra is captured after running loose for more than a week in Tennessee
A runaway pet zebra that was on the loose for more than a week in Tennessee and became an internet sensation in the process was captured on Sunday, authorities said. Ed the zebra was captured safely after being located in a pasture near a subdivision in the Christiana community in central Tennessee, the Rutherford county sheriff's office confirmed. The sheriff's office said aviation crews captured the zebra. 'Ed was airlifted and flown by helicopter back to a waiting animal trailer,' the sheriff's office said in a statement. Video posted by the sheriff's office shows Ed wrapped in a net with his head sticking out as he is carried by the helicopter to the trailer. Ed arrived in Christiana on 30 May, the sheriff's office said. His owner reported him missing the next day. The zebra was spotted and filmed running along Interstate 24, forcing deputies to shut the roadway. But Ed escaped into a wooded area. There were several sightings posted to social media. Ed was filmed trotting through a neighborhood. The zebra quickly became the subject of internet memes. One fake posting showed Ed dining at a Waffle House, a southern staple. Others had him visiting other Tennessee cities or panhandling on the side of the road. The pursuit of Ed came after a runway kangaroo shut down a section of an Alabama interstate in April.
