Eighth-grader Beckett Greenway receives first Division I basketball offer
Beckett Greenway, daughter of former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway and sister of top-ranked 2025 Minnesota recruit Maddyn Greenway, received her first Division I scholarship offer from South Dakota State, she said Monday on social media.
And Beckett is still only in the eighth grade.
Beckett played alongside her sister and helped Providence Academy claim a Class 2A state title this spring. Beckett averaged 12.2 points, 3.3 boards and 3.2 assists per game for the Lions last season, according to stats provided by the MN Girls Basketball Hub.
As Beckett will only be in ninth grade next year, the offer from the Jackrabbits is sure to be the first of many. Beckett is a multi-sport athlete, also playing soccer for the Lions. She previously won a soccer championship with Providence Academy, too.
Athleticism is in the genes at the Greenway household. Chad was a stellar linebacker, playing 10 NFL seasons with the Vikings, and Maddyn is the top-ranked girls basketball recruit in Minnesota's 2025 class and is committed to play at Kentucky this fall. Beckett looks to be the next top-level recruit in town, and you'll likely hear more of her soon.

Club World Cup participants ‘have to adapt to schedule', Hugo Lloris says
LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris believes footballers competing in the FIFA Club World Cup simply 'have to adapt to the schedule' of another summer of competitive football in an increasingly relentless calendar. The goalkeeper also insists that the top European clubs participating do not face greater challenges than their opponents from the rest of the football world. Advertisement The 38-year-old and LAFC were the last of 32 clubs to qualify for the inaugural edition of FIFA president Gianni Infantino's controversial expanded Club World Cup, defeating Club America 2-1 after extra time in a playoff last month to take the place vacated by Club Leon's disqualification from the tournament due to violation of FIFA's multi-club ownership rules. FIFA's introduction of a new, vast summer tournament has stoked opposition from domestic leagues, clubs and player unions around the world. One of the most prominent and persistent criticisms has been the lack of consideration afforded to player welfare, with leading players at the participating clubs subjected to significantly increased workloads. But none of that appears to have greatly moved Lloris, who enjoyed a highly distinguished 19-year professional career in Europe with Nice, Lyon and Tottenham Hotspur — much of it as the starting goalkeeper for the French national team — before leaving to join LAFC on a free transfer in the summer of 2024. 'To be honest with you, when I came to MLS, I expected a rhythm of games less intense than in Europe,' Lloris said. 'But then you start to realise you travel a lot, there are as many games as in Europe, you are also involved in the Champions League, CONCACAF, the Club World Cup, and the cup against the Mexican teams. 'Everywhere is the same, there are a lot of competitions and players have to adapt to the schedule. Also, you cannot say being involved in the Club World Cup is not exciting for the players. Then there will be the moment to decide, especially for the European players, how many days, how many weeks are they going to get off mentally, physically for the next season. 'For us, as soon as we finish the tournament, we have to go back to a routine of the MLS games which is not easy either. Players have to adapt to the schedule. I am not here to question the schedule. I am just here to tell you we are enjoying being here and to do our best.' Advertisement While he is determined to embrace the Club World Cup, Lloris is under no illusions that LAFC are underdogs in a group featuring Chelsea, Flamengo and Esperance de Tunis. 'We come here with a lot of humility,' he added. 'We just take it game by game. I cannot hide that the standard of the opponents are higher than ours. Especially Chelsea, then Flamengo and Tunis is a competitive club in Africa. 'We just want to come here to enjoy the competition, try to get the best result we can but we also have to be realistic. First, we focus on Chelsea.' You can sign up to DAZN to watch every FIFA Club World Cup game for free.

2027 Oregon commit takes dig at USC with ‘cannonball' reference
The post 2027 Oregon commit takes dig at USC with 'cannonball' reference appeared first on ClutchPoints. Oregon football delivered a new splash Sunday. One 2027 recruit dropped a 'cannonball' counter at USC. Advertisement The Trojans took a dig at their Big Ten rival with a clip from 'Anchorman' in helping announce the Mark Bowman commitment. But Oregon's newest verbal commit countered and took his swipe at USC. Edge rusher Prince Tavizon revealed his commitment to the Ducks Sunday evening. But he told Hayes Fawcett of On3 this reaction after Tavizon turned down USC. 'Cannonballlll,' the San Diego native Tavizon said to the recruiting insider. The 'cannonball' reference started via Dan Lanning. Oregon landed five-star edge rusher for 2026 Richard Wesley on May 10. Lanning proceeded to jump into a pool with Wesley to celebrate the Ducks commitment. However, the Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth star Wesley decommitted 17 days later and is back on the open recruiting market. Oregon, USC battling for top recruiting class Kirby Lee-Imagn Images The Ducks and Trojans have stretched their rivalry into the Big Ten. Both battled for Pac-12 supremacy before moving out of the conference for the 2024 season. Advertisement Now their bitterness has spilled over to the college football recruiting trail. USC has put together the nation's top-ranked recruiting class for 2026. But that was a title Oregon held at the start of the year. The Trojans and head coach Lincoln Riley began to siphon away Oregon commits. USC poached four-star quarterback Jonas Williams from the Ducks in February. But the Trojans weren't through raiding the Ducks' '26 class. Prized offensive lineman Tomuhini Topui flipped to USC after originally choosing the Big Ten champs. Topui revealed his change of heart on April 1. The Bowman commitment further increases USC's lead in the national recruiting rankings. Oregon has fallen to 27th nationally with just seven verbal pledges for '26. Oregon, however, just dove into the '27 cycle to grab the Lincoln High star Tavizon. The edge defender reeled in 21 scholarship offers ahead of his junior season before dropping his 'cannonball.'
