Sheriff: Woman in US illegally had fake ID with dead person's Social Security number
ASHLAND, Ohio (WJW) — Ashland County sheriff's deputies said two people, whom they described as illegal immigrants from Honduras, were held in jail following a crash near Pleasant Hill Lake.
One provided an identification card with the Social Security number of a deceased U.S. citizen.
Apparent murder-suicide investigated in Geauga County
Edwin Lazzsano was arrested on misdemeanor charges after deputies say he resisted arrest and obstructed official business, following a March 4 crash on Township Road 2916. Reports from Ashland County Sheriff deputies said Lazzsano was not cooperative and struggled with deputies as they tried to handcuff him.
'He was here illegally,' said Ashland County Sheriff Kurt Schneider. 'In fact, he admitted to that.'
The sheriff's deputies said they towed the vehicle and a few days later a woman, Karla Hernandez, came to the department trying to get the car. The sheriff said she provided deputies with a fake ID.
'Yeah, we are still looking into some of those details but we believe that Social Security number belonged to a deceased United States citizen,' the sheriff said. 'So we are still looking into how that happened.'
The sheriff said Hernandez told deputies she got the ID after meeting a man at a grocery store.
Investigation underway after 40-car fire in Lorain
Both Lazzsano and Hernandez are from Honduras, the sheriff said.
Agents with U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement picked up Lazzsano and Hernandez and transported them to a holding facility. The sheriff did not know where the two were taken.

Benton County treasurer charged of child enticement using Grindr
BENTON COUNTY, Mo. — The Benton County treasurer was arrested for charges of sexual misconduct on Monday, June 9. According to online court dockets, Richard Renno, born 1962, has been charged with enticement or attempted enticement of a child and sexual misconduct involving a child under 15. The probable cause statement says law enforcement began an investigation on April 24 of allegations that Renno committed the offence of enticing a child for sex, the statement says. Law enforcement found probable cause that Renno was using the online social media application Grindr to speak with a 14-year-old child. The statement says that officials interviewed witnesses who showed screenshots of Renno's face and nude photographs sent from his account. The nude photograph was identified as having been sent from Renno's residence in Benton County by a family member. The family member told law enforcement that Renno would use electronic devices, computers and cellular devices to obtain sex online from young men. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Renno was arrested around 7:37 a.m. on Monday. Renno told police that he had been using Grindr for ten years and admitted to having conversations with minors. Renno is currently at the Benton County Jail with a $100,000 bond. Mexican President Sheinbaum condemns violence in LA protests
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the use of violence in immigration protests in Los Angeles, as she urged the Mexican community abroad to remain peaceful. 'We do not agree with violent actions as a form of protest. Burning police cars appears to be more an act of provocation than of resistance. We condemn violence, no matter where it comes from,' Sheinbaum said in a prepared statement at her daily news briefing on Monday. 'We call on the Mexican community to act pacifically and not allow itself to be provoked,' she added. But the Mexican president made clear that her government has an 'unwavering commitment to the protection and defense of the human rights of Mexicans, regardless of their immigration status' — and called for due process in U.S. immigration proceedings. 'In this sense, we make a respectful but firm call to United States authorities for all immigration procedures to be carried out with adherence to due process, within a framework of respect for human dignity and the rule of law,' Sheinbaum said in her statement. Mexican flag becomes L.A. protest symbol: What to know Sheinbaum pledged her government would continue using 'all diplomatic and legal channels available' to make clear to the Trump administration that they oppose 'practices that criminalize immigration and put at risk the safety and well-being of our communities in the United States.' The statement comes amid rising tensions between immigration enforcement protesters and law enforcement in Los Angeles. Federal authorities said the weeklong immigration arrest tally in the L.A. area climbed to over 100, not including arrests of protesters over the weekend. Mexican Foreign Affairs Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente said on Monday that 42 Mexican nationals had been detained in immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles. Four had already returned to Mexico — two voluntarily and two were deported. The Associated Press contributed. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
