Army sentry injured in brief exchange of fire amid chaos of hovering drones in Jammu's Nagrota
'The sentry noticed the suspicious movement and opened fire. There was a brief exchange of two rounds following which the suspected terrorists fled,' said a source in the security establishment, adding that the injured personnel was rushed to the hospital and is out of danger.
New Delhi: An army personnel was injured in a brief exchange of fire with an unidentified assailant at a sentry post in Jammu's Nagrota Saturday evening. The sentry opened fire amid widespread chaos caused by drones hovering over multiple locations, ThePrint has learnt.
'This was not a fidayeen attack, and no beheading occurred, contrary to what is being circulated in some media outlets. The injured person is stable and out of danger,' a source said.
On Saturday evening, social media posts, including one by a former Brigadier, claimed that terrorists in army uniforms had carried out a beheading in Nagrota. Similarly, news agency ANI initially posted on X about a 'terrorist attack in Nagrota', but subsequently removed the post.
Jammu & Kashmir Police have reached the location and initiated a formal investigation.
Less than four hours after a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan came into effect Saturday, drones were sighted and explosions were heard in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat. However, the situation is now said to be calm, with blackout restrictions eased in some parts of these border states.
The ceasefire was first announced by US President Donald Trump and confirmed by both Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The agreement followed a conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries earlier in the day.
In a late-night media briefing, Misri said there had been 'repeated violations of the understanding reached by the two countries', calling it a 'breach of trust'. He emphasised that the Indian armed forces were giving an adequate response to these violations and urged Pakistan to take appropriate steps and handle the situation responsibly.

Trump has kept the world guessing on his plans, veering from proposing a swift diplomatic solution to suggesting Washington might join the fighting on Israel's side. Israel is the only country in the Middle East widely believed to have nuclear weapons, and said it struck Iran to prevent Tehran from developing its own nuclear weapons. Iran, which says its nuclear program is peaceful, has retaliated with its own strikes on Israel. Iran is a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, while Israel is not. Israel's strikes have killed 639 people in Iran, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency. Israel says Iranian attacks have killed 24 civilians in Israel.

No reply from Azerbaijan, Kol prof heads to Armenia
1 2 Kolkata: After waiting for four days for the migration code from the Azerbaijan authorities, Falguni Dey, the geography professor from Kolkata who travelled 1,000 km from Tehran to reach Astara, will now have to head towards Armenia, where Indian nationals are being allowed to cross the border. Dey left Tehran on Sunday in a car and travelled for nearly 40 hours to reach Astara. While he escaped the war-ravaged Tehran along with thousands of Iranians and foreign nationals, he had applied for the e-visa with the Azerbaijan authorities. He initially planned to move to Baku after crossing the border and catch a flight to India from there. "Azerbaijan was allowing US and Russian nationals to cross the border via Astara. There was no bar for Indian nationals. I presumed they would allow Indians too and waited for their approval. But it seems that the permission has got stuck in diplomatic tangles," he said. On Friday, an exasperated Dey sounded helpless. "I needed a migration code for my e-visa application. Four days have passed since I applied. I am trying to adapt myself to the new reality. There isn't anything else I can do now," he said. On Thursday, Dey filed documents for the e-visa with the Armenian authorities. "The Nurduz-Agarak area in Iran is around 450 km from Astara. I don't have cash, and I am clueless about paying for a car to drive me there. But I have to take a chance and get out of Iran anyhow," he said.
