Army sentry injured in brief exchange of fire amid chaos of hovering drones in Jammu's Nagrota

'The sentry noticed the suspicious movement and opened fire. There was a brief exchange of two rounds following which the suspected terrorists fled,' said a source in the security establishment, adding that the injured personnel was rushed to the hospital and is out of danger. New Delhi: An army personnel was injured in a brief exchange of fire with an unidentified assailant at a sentry post in Jammu's Nagrota Saturday evening. The sentry opened fire amid widespread chaos caused by drones hovering over multiple locations, ThePrint has learnt. 'This was not a fidayeen attack, and no beheading occurred, contrary to what is being circulated in some media outlets. The injured person is stable and out of danger,' a source said. On Saturday evening, social media posts, including one by a former Brigadier, claimed that terrorists in army uniforms had carried out a beheading in Nagrota. Similarly, news agency ANI initially posted on X about a 'terrorist attack in Nagrota', but subsequently removed the post. Jammu & Kashmir Police have reached the location and initiated a formal investigation. Less than four hours after a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan came into effect Saturday, drones were sighted and explosions were heard in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat. However, the situation is now said to be calm, with blackout restrictions eased in some parts of these border states. The ceasefire was first announced by US President Donald Trump and confirmed by both Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The agreement followed a conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries earlier in the day. In a late-night media briefing, Misri said there had been 'repeated violations of the understanding reached by the two countries', calling it a 'breach of trust'. He emphasised that the Indian armed forces were giving an adequate response to these violations and urged Pakistan to take appropriate steps and handle the situation responsibly. Propaganda, Outright Lies: How Pak Is Ramping Up Misinformation Warfare

Keeping up its misinformation warfare alongside three waves of drone and missile attacks on military and civilian targets in India, the Pakistani establishment and people backed by it have continued to spread lies, including that Indian armed forces fire missiles on Amritsar, officials have said. The officials listed out a series of misinformation, half-truths and outright lies propagated by Pakistan to sow discord in India, paint itself in a flattering light and try and gain the world's sympathy. They also pointed out that measures are being taken to counter such misinformation, including with timely fact-checks and visual evidence. "Pakistan is running a widespread campaign full of lies targeting India, using both official channels and social media to incite communal unrest, spread false reports about military events, cause panic among Indian citizens and create international confusion regarding India's actions," an official said. Among the biggest lies being peddled by Pakistan, the officials said, is the claim by Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), that India fired missiles on Amritsar. Another false claim, in the same vein, was that India had attacked the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan. Blasting Pakistan for the outrageous allegation, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Friday that it continued to make efforts to mislead the world. "Pakistan made the preposterous and outrageous claim that it was the Indian Armed Forces and the Indian Air Force that was targeting cities like Amritsar and trying to put the blame on Pakistan. This is nothing but a desperate attempt by Pakistan to disown its acts of aggression. But it is also true to type in its effort to deceive and mislead the world. It will not succeed," he said. Mr Misri slammed Pakistan again on Saturday, calling it out on its "lame attempt". "Pakistani officials also continue to make ludicrous claims about India firing missiles towards Shri Amritsar Sahib. As I said, these lame attempts to divide India are doomed to failure," he said.

Protests erupt in Bangladesh after death of eight-year-old rape victim

Widespread protests broke out across Bangladesh following the death of an eight-year-old girl who was raped earlier this month. The child succumbed to her injuries on Thursday after being assaulted while visiting her elder sister's home in the city of Magura, with the attack occurring sometime between the night of March 5 and the following morning. According to a case filed by her mother, the girl was allegedly raped by her sister's 18-year-old husband, who has since been arrested along with his parents and brother. Following the news of the child's death, an enraged mob descended on the home where the assault took place, setting it on fire. The girl died at approximately 1:00 PM local time after suffering three cardiac arrests during her six-day stay in critical condition at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka. A statement from the government's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department confirmed that while doctors managed to stabilize her twice, her heart failed to restart after the third episode. "I thought my daughter would survive," her mother told local media. "If she had made it through, I would never have let her go anywhere alone again." The girl's body was transported back to Magura via army helicopter and landed at a local stadium, where thousands gathered for her namaz-e-janaza, the Islamic funeral prayer. An additional memorial service was held at Dhaka University, followed by protests and speeches from female students demanding justice.
