Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Recalls of 15 products containing tuna salad have been given the highest-alert warning by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recalls relate to possible contamination with listeria monocytogenes in breadcrumbs used as an ingredient by Idaho-based company Reser's Fine Food. Albertsons, Randalls and Tom Thumb stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas, and Jewel Osco stores in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa issued the recalls in mid-July. The FDA classified the recalls as Class I, the highest of three levels, on August 13. Why It Matters "Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems," the FDA warned in an initial recall notice. "Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women." Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A nationwide recall of ice cream over undeclared milk has received the second-highest warning by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Tropicale Foods, based in Ontario, California, issued a voluntary recall on July 25 of select Helados Mexico and La Michoacana ice cream products. The FDA issued a Class II risk classification for the recall on August 13. Newsweek contacted Tropicale Foods for comment via email outside regular working hours. Stock image: A server scoops freshly made hazelnut gelato at the Carpigiani company's on-site gelateria in Bologna, Italy, on March 28, It Matters A Class II risk classification refers to a situation in which the "use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote," according to the FDA. Milk is one of the nine major food allergens as set out in the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research (FASTER) Act. The others are eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, sesame and soybeans. Allergic reactions vary in severity from mild symptoms, such as hives and lip swelling, to life-threatening complications, such as anaphylaxis. What To Know These are the products affected by the recall: La Michoacana Mango Con Crema Single Serve Paleta 3.75oz UPC: 7-67778-00008-2 (Best by Date: 2/3/2027-4/8/2027) La Michoacana Strawberry Con Crema Single Serve Paleta 3.75oz UPC: 7-67778-00002-0 (Best by Date: 10/1/2026-5/16/2027) La Michoacana Bubble Gum Single Serve Paleta 3.75oz UPC: 7-67778-00003-7 (Best by Date: 4/7/2027-4/19/2027) La Michoacana Cookies N Cream Single Serve Paleta 3.75oz UPC: 7-67778-00007-5 (Best by Date: 4/9/2027-4/11/2027) La Michoacana Coconut Con Crema 6-Pack Paleta 16.5oz UPC: 7-67778-00101-0 (Best by Date: 11/25/2026-4/12/2027) La Michoacana Strawberry Con Crema 6-Pack Paleta 16.5oz UPC: 7-67778-00102-7 (Best by Date: 6/3/2026-6/17/2027) La Michoacana Minis Variety Paletas 12-Count 16.5oz UPC: 7-67778-03042-3 (Best by Date: 9/9/2026-4/12/2027) La Michoacana Variety Paletas 16-Count 44oz UPC: 7-67778-03100-0 (Best by Date: 3/14/2027 and 3/16/2027) La Michoacana Rompope Bolis 6-Count 24oz UPC: 7-67778-05004-9 (Best by Date: 4/24/2027-7/14/2027) Helados Mexico Minis Variety Paletas 12-Count 18oz UPC: 6-82082-11215-6 (Best by Date: 5/29/2026-06/24/2027) Helados Mexico Minis Variety Paletas 12-Count 18oz UPC: 6-82082-61215-1 (Best by Date: 12/31/2026-5/2/2027) Helados Mexico Choco Dipped Minis Variety Paletas 12-Count 18oz UPC: 6-82082-41215-7 (Best by Date: 12/17/2026-6/15/2027) Helados Mexico Choco-Dipped Minis Variety Paletas 12-Count 18oz UPC: 6-82082-81215-5 UPC: 6-82082-41215-7 (Best by Date: 1/14/2027-6/18/2027) In total, hundreds of thousands of units were affected by the recall, with the products distributed nationwide. What People Are Saying Food Allergy Research and Education said on its website: "When a person with a milk allergy is exposed to milk, proteins in the milk bind to specific IgE antibodies made by the person's immune system. This triggers the person's immune defenses, leading to reaction symptoms that can be mild or very severe." Tropicale Foods' announcement, published on the Food and Drug Administration's website in July, said: "Tropicale Foods of Ontario, CA is recalling certain Helados Mexico and La Michoacana products with specific best by dates, as detailed below because these products contain undeclared milk. "Though these products include 'cream' in the product ingredient lists, the common name 'milk' is not declared. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products." What Happens Next The recall is listed as ongoing, according to the FDA.
