Ombudsman earns revenge over Delacroix in Juddmonte
Ombudsman came out on top in his highly-anticipated rematch with Delacroix to win the Juddmonte International pipped Ombudsman to the post in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown in July but the roles were reversed in Castle, who went off at 150-1, made an early break and led by 20 lengths but was chased down by Ombudsman under William Buick and had to settle for third."This horse put in an amazing performance - unbelievable," Buick told ITV1."I'm delighted with him. He's a very, very special horse and he showed all his attributes today."Earlier, Derby winner Lambourn could only finish fifth as Pride Of Arras, returning to the scene of his Dante Stakes win, took the Great Voltigeur Ralph Beckett-trained Pride Of Arras is aiming to get his career back on track after finishing last at the Curragh in the Irish Derby and 17th of 18 in the Derby at Epsom over the won both of those races, having also claimed victory in Chester in May, and went off as the 4-5 favourite but was unable to make it four on the Rossa Ryan remained patient throughout on Pride Of Arras before moving past Carmers, who finished second, with a furlong to go.

Value Scope: Each way horseracing tips from Steve Jones for Thursday at York on ITV
Our each way experts reckons there is plenty of value to be found among the card for day two of the Ebor Festival at York and has four selections Sit back and enjoy the Journey on the second day of York's Ebor Festival. AMAZING JOURNEY (4.45) won a Chepstow novice race before making a successful handicap debut when a smooth winner at this track in July. Both of those races were over 6f and he might well have completed the hat-trick when upped to 7f for the first time at Goodwood. He was just starting to wind up his challenge when he ran into traffic and he couldn't quicken on the testing ground when the gaps appeared. There looks to be lots of pace in the race and that should set things up for Jamie Osborne's youngster. Have 1pt each-way at 10-1. Sky Bet is paying out on six places. Earlier on the card, SONG OF THE CLYDE (2.25) is an interesting runner in the Harry's Half Million By Goffs sales race. He did well to overcome trouble coming out of the stalls to win a Chester maiden in June. His second to smart all-the-way winner Egoli at Newbury last month was another good effort and we certainly haven't seen the best of him. He will attempt to give his trainer Clive Cox his third successive victory in this valuable race. Have 1pt each-way at 11-1. Sky Bet is going five places. Free £2 Shop Bet with William Hill inside your Mirror every day of the York Ebor Festival THE big guns are being readied and loaded to fire at York's Ebor Festival which starts on Wednesday August 20, 2025- and your Mirror is bringing you everything you need to celebrate the final flourish of the racing season including FREE shop bets from William Hill. Don't miss your paper every day of the festival, from Wednesday August 20 until Saturday August 23, 2025, to get your hands on packed pullouts, free £2 shop bets, and insight from the racing team you trust. Find out more here. NORTHERN EXPRESS (3.00) has plenty of form around York and he looks overpriced in the Clipper Handicap. Like many of Michael Dods' team, he wasn't at his best earlier in the season but he gave it a good go from the front when attempting to win the competitive International Handicap for the second year running at Ascot last month. He couldn't quite see it out in a race run at a sound pace and this easier track over slightly further should allow him to get into a nice rhythm on the lead. Have 1pt each-way at 18-1. Sky Bet is offering six places. ROGUE SENSATION (5.20) is worth chancing in the final race. She ran well in a Haydock Listed race on her return to action and she seemed to appreciate the 7f distance when runner-up at Chester three weeks ago. Ed Bethell's filly didn't get the clearest of runs and this more conventional track should also help. Her trainer has really hit form in the last few weeks. Have 1pt each-way at 20-1. Most bookies are paying out on five places.

Gewan secures Acomb honours for Andrew Balding
The grey was a 11-2 chance in the seven-furlong Group Three, and ran prominently from the off when racing in the slipstream of the leader May Angel in the early stages. In the last two furlongs the colt began to progress, and in the final furlong he established a lead that he then fought hard to maintain as Aidan O'Brien's Italy, the eventual runner-up, sought to gain ground before going down by a length and a half. Charlie Appleby's Distant Storm, the 11-10 favourite, pulled hard throughout the race and was eventually third. Balding said: 'He's a horse we've always liked from the moment he came into the yard and he was very well bought by Billy Jackson-Stops for not big money really (€80,000). 'He's a son of Night Of Thunder who has done everything right since the first day and we liked the way he won at Newbury and we were always keen to come here. 'I think PJ was quite taken by him and his attitude and maybe felt he had a little more left. 'I think he'll stay a mile no problem next year but we'll probably stick at seven this year.' Paddy Power make Gewan an 8-1 shot for the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October and Balding added: 'It's possible he could head to the Dewhurst next. 'There's a lot of two-year-old races to be run between now and then, anything is possible at the moment. I don't know if we've any better than him but other people probably have, so we'll see how things play out.' Italy could also be handed a Group One target in the future, with O'Brien satisfied with his performance. He said: 'He ran very well and he's a lovely, big horse. Ryan (Moore) said he jumped a little bit slow and the horse that jumped in front of him took him an inch or two back further than he wanted to be. 'Ryan said he had to expose him very early, but he ran a very good race, he's a lovely horse in the making and he will progress. 'There's many options for him. We had the choice of running here or in the Futurity Stakes (at the Curragh) and obviously we picked to come here. From the Futurity you can go to the National Stakes, but it depends what happens with the others.'
