M'sian kindergarten teacher in tears after student allegedly throws bottle at her head

TEACHING young children is often seen as a rewarding profession, but behind the colourful classrooms and cheerful songs lies a challenging reality that many educators quietly endure.
Recently, a Malaysian kindergarten teacher opened up about a distressing incident involving a three-year-old student who allegedly threw a water bottle at her head — an experience that left her in tears for the first time in her four-year career.
'I couldn't even look at (their) face, let alone waste any energy speaking to (the student),' she said in a post on Threads.
She also admitted that this was the first time she had asked another teacher to manage the situation, as she genuinely felt hurt by the child's actions.
'Yes, I know people will say 'kids will be kids', but can we please stop normalising that phrase? It's toxic.
'Most children, especially at my school, have a lot of behavioural and emotional issues. I don't understand why they carry so much anger. Is it because they're spoiled, or have I failed as an educator?' she added.
Later, she clarified that the toddler threw the bottle as an 'act of protest' after she had moved him to another class due to ongoing behavioural issues.
The young teacher went on to explain in another comment that the student had previously acted out, and although she had voiced her concerns to the child's parents, the behaviour appeared to be worsening.
She is now collecting evidence and compiling a list to present to the parents, explaining why the child's behaviour is unacceptable. Drawing from her experience with other students, she emphasised that the child needs a solid routine to help reduce such behavioural problems.
The teacher's situation struck a chord with netizens, many of whom offered support and shared their own experiences as fellow educators — reassuring her that she is not alone in her struggles.
'I feel you. I was a teacher and have had pencils and worksheets thrown at me. We are truly tested as educators,' one netizen commented.
'We used to respect our teachers and appreciate the knowledge they shared with us. What is wrong with children nowadays?' lamented another.

Kedah authorities bust diesel smuggling attempt by Thai woman in modified pickup

ALOR SETAR, Aug 18 — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) arrested a Thai woman for trying to smuggle diesel using a vehicle with a Malaysian registration number plate at a petrol station in Kuala Nerang on Saturday. Kedah KPDN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said the woman, in her 40s, was arrested based on a public tip-off and intelligence gathered by Alor Setar KPDN enforcement personnel. 'During initial observations, a pickup truck was seen filling up diesel before heading to the back of the petrol station where the vehicle owner was changing out local registration plates for foreign registration plates. 'Further inspection revealed diesel kept in a modified tank,' he said in a statement last night, adding that an inspection at the petrol station found that the station had sold 273 litres of diesel in a single transaction to the suspect's vehicle, violating the Supply Controller's instructions on the limit of sales to locally-registered vehicles in a single day. Diesel worth almost RM800, a pickup truck, purchase receipts and documents totalling over RM30,790 were seized, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — Bernama

KOTA BHARU, Aug 18 — The Malaysian Army (TDM) detained 10 Myanmar nationals attempting to cross Sungai Golok illegally into Malaysia from Thailand. A statement from TDM's 2nd Infantry Division yesterday said the undocumented migrants (PATI) comprised four men and six women, aged between 19 and 35, with some of them carrying Myanmar identification documents and passports. 'Several personal items, including mobile phones and cash in Malaysian, Myanmar and Thai currencies, were also confiscated. 'Additionally, a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle was intercepted, but its owner, suspected of being a smuggler, managed to escape across Sungai Golok into Thailand,' it added. The statement added that the total value of the seizure was RM21,426, and all the migrants were handed over to the Jeli District Police Headquarters. — Bernama

Thai woman caught using fake plate to buy subsidised diesel in Kedah

ALOR STAR: A Thai woman in her 40s has been detained for attempting to smuggle subsidised diesel using a pick-up truck fitted with a fake Malaysian registration plate in Kuala Nerang, Padang Terap, on Saturday. The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry said the case was uncovered following a public tip-off and subsequent surveillance. Its state director Muhamad Nizam Jamaluddin said initial monitoring found the vehicle refuelling at a petrol station before moving to the back of the premises. "Checks showed the driver had switched a suspected fake Malaysian plate back to its original foreign registration after refuelling," he said in a statement today. He said the vehicle was fitted with a modified tank storing diesel. "A total of 273 litres of diesel had been sold in a single transaction to the vehicle, an offence under Supply Controller Directives that limit daily sales to locally-registered vehicles. "An investigation paper has also been opened against the station operator. "The team seized 273 litres of diesel worth RM791.73, a pick-up truck, purchase receipts and business documents. "The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM30,791.73," he added. The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
