
Man dies, pillion injured after bike skids
A 21-year-old man died while the pillion rider sustained injuries after their motorcycle skidded on the SNDT to Canal Road stretch in Erandwane area Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Tanmay Kalantre of Nandanvan Society in Kothrud. According to the police, the incident occurred around 4am when Kalantre and his friend were riding towards Karve Road. As their two-wheeler approached a turn near the SNDT College stretch, the bike reportedly lost balance and skidded off the road. Passersby rushed to help the duo and alerted authorities.
Initial probe by Deccan Gymkhana police reveals speeding as possible reason for accident.
Deccan Police Station has filed a case under Sections 106(1), 125(B), 281, 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 184, 119/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Lucknow: The Lucknow police arrested a murder accused less than 24 hours after he allegedly stabbed to death a man who had earlier lodged a Pocso case against him for kidnapping and sexually assaulting his minor daughter. The accused, identified as Anuj Kashyap (21), a resident of Vadia in Mal, was arrested near Naya Pakka Pul in Madeyganj on Thursday. The police recovered a sharp-edged knife, an iron pipe and a white scooter (UP32 KY 7562) used in the crime. The vehicle was seized under the Motor Vehicles Act for lacking valid documents. According to DCP, north, Gopal Krishna Choudhary, the murder occurred on June 4 when the accused allegedly barged into the rented house of Babulal (42) and stabbed him to death. The victim's wife filed an FIR claiming the killing was triggered by a long-standing enmity stemming from a previous criminal case. Investigation revealed that Anuj was booked in 2024 in a case involving the kidnapping and sexual assault of Babulal's minor daughter. He was imprisoned and recently released from jail. "After his release, Anuj sought revenge against the family responsible for his arrest, which led him to kill the girl's father," the police stated. A case has now been registered under Section 103(1) of the BNS at Aliganj police station. The accused was sent to judicial custody and police are investigating his possible involvement in other criminal activities.

Truck runs over 32-year-old pedestrian near Bhiwandi
THANE: A 32-year-old pedestrian was killed late Tuesday night after an allegedly speeding container truck ran over him on the Thane-Nashik highway near Bhiwandi. Police said the truck driver abandoned his vehicle and fled after the accident. He was booked on Wednesday for rash driving and causing death due to negligence. The deceased, Umashankar Mahesh Sharma, worked at a small company and was returning home. According to the police, around 11.30pm on Wednesday, Sharma was standing by the roadside to cross the road near the rickshaw stand along the Bhiwandi bypass. A container truck going towards Bhiwandi was allegedly speeding and struck him with force. Sharma fell and came under the rear wheels of the vehicle, resulting in his death on the spot. Based on a complaint by a police officer, a case was registered at the Kongaon police station on Tuesday. The accused driver was booked under section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The body was taken to the Indira Gandhi Government Hospital in Bhiwandi for postmortem. Sub-inspector Vaibhav Muble, who is leading the investigation, said, 'Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver was speeding in a congested area. We have identified the truck and are actively working to trace the absconding driver.' Raju Jadhav, an eyewitness, runs a tea stall near the rickshaw stand. He said, 'The speeding truck came out of nowhere. Before anyone could react, it had already hit the man. People began shouting, but the driver didn't stop. He just left the truck and ran away.'
